Celebrity Obsession...

Please help me to understand my GF's obsession with celebrities and their activities. She is constantly online looking at blogs, people.com, etc. for the latest in celeb gossip.

Is this her 'sports'? Does she care about celeb's lives like I care about baseball standings or worry about how the Saints are going to screw up their prime draft position? Does she (or anyone else) really care about what is going on with celebs? Is it for shock value or just interested in their extravagant lifestyles?

This is a plea for help. Please don't flame if you have the same symptoms, just explain this affliction to me. My thanks for your help cannot be overstated!!

yeah its probably the same thing.

I think we all have something that we fixate on, for many on this board, its Disney, for some its gardening, for some celebrities.


I never got into the whole celebrity thing myself. But thats just me, I have an HGTV and hand bag obsession personally. Though I will admit I dont have a blog about either one of them


Honestly as long as she is not a stalker type fan and just enjoys reading the gossip rags and such ( and of course its not interfering with your relationship) then I guess there is no harm with it.

I have co-workers who give me a hard time about the number of times I have seen Barenaked Ladies in concert. Yet, these same people are obsessed with paying $$$ for all sorts of sports pools, they spend $$$ to golf all the time, etc.

Most people have some sort of thing. As long as it's not hurting anyone, don't see the problem.

I also have the celebrity obssesion and it thats not bad I dragged my little sister down with me I guess some of the stories just make me say "That can't be true!" Such as the 4 month marriage of Kenny Chesney. It's just one of those things.

Yes, this is her "sports." It's just mindless fun to keep her from obsessing about war, hate crime, child abuse, and global warming. As a former alt.gossip.celebrities addict, I completely understand. (Obviously, my current obsession is Disney!)

Thanks for the replies, that was along the lines of what i was thinking. No, it doesn't hurt us at all and I love her to death. I was just puzzled as to what the appeal was. Thanks
