Celebrity Infinity crashes into Ketchikan Dock

The people videotaping said something about their line broke. Did they mean their line tied to the dock? That was quiet the sound she made when she hit -- I think that was more than a "scrape".

The line that broke was on the boat the people who were video taping from, not the infinity.

As to the anchor on the Infinity, they did indeed drop the starboard anchor. This was to provide a drag on the starboard side of the infinity and slow the speed as which the bow was coming toward the dock. The video tape does show the vessel slowing and the bow approach toward the dock slowing as well.

Carnival, Cunard, Holland America are among the big name cruise lines that got big money back from 1 of the pod makers because they were so unreliable. Its a little better now, but pod failures are not uncommon. Not as much as they were when fist made, but they still fail with alarming frequency. The Allure of the Seas recently went into drydock a year early because of a pod failure. I want to say that was Jan of 15.

There is a really great documentary about the repair of that ship and how The Freeport Shipyard was able to dry dock the massive ship. They had 7 days to complete the repair. The link to the youtube video is HERE.

I also caught this screen capture from the original article. In it you can see some people in the cabins, So I wonder if anyone caught it on film from their persepctive. Unlikely, but would still be interesting. Capture.JPG

Silly questions, but do you think they gave some type of warning to the people on the ship? Like brace yourself? Do ships give people a warning if they think something like this will happen?

I overheard a woman at the airport talking about being on the ship during this event. She said she was at dinner and suddenly the plates were all bouncing up and down. That was when she realized that something had to be wrong. So, at least in her case, there was no warning. I'm guessing it all happened so fast, that a warning wasn't really possible. She said they weren't allowed off the ship for several hours. She was laughing about the whole thing while telling the story.
