Celebrities whose appeal is lost on you...

Of those with relatives in show business, I do think Kate Hudson was great in Almost Famous. However, Nicholas Cage is the worst actor ever. He'd have no career if his uncle wasn't Francis Ford Coppola.

Ben Affleck isn't good at picking out scripts, but I can forgive that because he's so gorgeous. :lovestruc I liked Jersey Girl a lot, that had J. Lo in it. She's another one who can't seem to choose a good script. Jennifer Aniston also can't pick out a decent script, plus I couldn't care less about her love life. Can we just say she's an "old maid"? :teeth:

I think Sean Penn is an incredible actor. Mystic River is one of the best movies ever made, and he was awesome in Milk too. Brendan Frasier did a bang-up job in School Ties. Love that movie and his performance in it! Sarah Jessica Parker is far from being a traditional beauty, but I think she gives off something special when the camera hits her at the right angle.

Victoria Beckham needs to see a dermatologist, pronto. The Gosselins and Clay Aitken--oh, yeah, I agree. Those are three people whose 15 minutes ended years ago.

I stand by my opinion of Drew Barrymore as a model and actress. She's cross-eyed, her chest is sagging already, she has a lisp, and she can't act.

I know a lot of people hate Nicholas Cage, including DW, and I'm not going to claim he has the ability to play a wide range of characters, like some other highly talented actors. But I think he's done some really good work and he has a unique and quirky personality that comes through in his movies. It's this unique persona that makes him perfect for certain roles and has made him successful as an actor.
I thought he was great in:
Raising Arizona
Wild at Heart
Leaving Las Vegas
8 MM
Lord of War
The Weather Man

I can't stand Sean Penn on a lot of levels, but he's a truly talented actor with the ability to play a lot of different characters.
I can't imagine anyone watching these movies and concluding that Sean Penn is not a talented actor:
Dead Man Walking
Sweet and Lowdown
I Am Sam
Mystic River
21 Grams

I can't believe you're still dissing my Drew. :lovestruc
She is NOT cross-eyed and I don't care whether her breasts are sagging and she certainly can act. So knock it off. :)

Although I am surprised that she is doing stuff like Covergirl. She's my number 1 celebrity crush and has been for as long as I can remember. But I've always considered her more cute than beautiful.

I still stand by my opinion that having celebrity parents can help someone get a start in show business and can sometimes prolong a mediocre career, but it cannot lead to a very long successful career, without the person having talent or some other appeal to the masses.

I'm not into the celebrity stuff and don't know many of them. I do want to say that I am sick of seeing the face of that boy from the teen-age vampire movies (Edwin? Twilight?) on every magazine at the grocery store checkout lane. He isn't attractive, looks dirty and worst of all has a severely drugged-out, spaced-out vacant look to the eyes. And it is disturbing the number of middle-aged women "swooning" over him. Yuck, yuck, and double yuck.

Tom Cruise is just a scary freak. Something about the beady eyes. And I think Brad Pitt isn't attractive or talented--he looks like he needs a good soak with some of Granny Clampett's lye soap. Johnny Depp may look dirty, but he did make a fine pirate and is a very good, multi-dimensional actor.

Awww…Millman4023, I think it’s so sweet that you have a crush on Drew. I promise I won’t say another a bad word about her. :flower3: (In this thread anyway…;) )

Nicholas Cage has made some very enjoyable movies. None that are awesome like Sean Penn’s movies, but entertaining ones all the same. I saw him in a good role on cable recently. Matchstick Men, I think it was called. He played a very neurotic character and did a pretty good job. I found him funny in it. I think his better movies are the comedies rather than dramas or action movies.

One that I don't see listed and never understood was Uma Therman. Really??

I also agree about Will Ferrell - it makes me wonder about the state of this country that he is as popular as he is:confused: Hey guys, save your money and rewatch the last movie he made, they are all the same.

Raising Arizona was awesome if you like quirky, oddball comedy. But yeah, he is very good at playing quirky or mentally unstable characters.

I'm curious if you've seen Lord of War. It thought it was one of his best performances in a serious role.

I love Raising Arizona! It's one movie I could watch over and over.

No, I haven't seen Lord of War, but at your suggestion, I'll seek it out and let you know what I think. :)

You sound like a really nice guy and a knowledgeable film buff, Millman. I don't recall coming across your posts before, but it's very nice to "meet" you. :)

I thought I saw her mentioned upthread. I agree with you--I don't think she's a raving beauty or an especially good actress.
LOL. You and I definitely have very different opinions.

I don't think Uma is attractive at all, but I love her as an actress. I can't think of anyone who could have pulled off her character in Kill Bill.

Tom Cruise-just yuck

Never meant him any ill will but Patrick Swayze always gave me the heebie-jeebies. Never could see a movie with him in it.

Alec Baldwin-just an icky old man:sick:

Any reality show families

Uma and Sarah Jessica are only stars because they are tall and thin

Jack Nicholson-another icky old man

Finally watched Twilight just to see what the hype was all about-I still don't know what the hype was all about. Neither of the leads can act. At all.

I'm curious. Which Uma Thurman movies have you seen?

But you don't necessarily have to be super talented to be a star. You just have to be popular and draw audiences to your movies/tv shows/etc. If nobody went to see Kate Hudson movies, I don't think she'd keep getting cast, regardless of who her parents are.

I totally agree with this statement. Some people just know how to pick scripts and pick co-stars. I think Kate is very cute. Super attractive -not at all. Just everyday cute and she so knows how to pick a co-star! There is major online chemistry between her and Mathew! A lot of us want to go to the movies for mindless fun. Not every movie has to be an oscar type movie. In reality how many actually see the movies that make it to the Oscars. Sure those are full of talented actors but boring scripts. I am not saying that is true for everyone just a lot of people out there.

Oh and for my list

Tom Cruise- Just keep your life private and you probably would have a higher fan base!
ALL REALITY STARS -I hate reality tv and it has taken over!!!

I have never seen Kill Bill, so if Uma was good in that movie, I apologize to Uma. I just don't get how she is leading lady talented or leading lady beautiful.

Uma and Sarah Jessica are only stars because they are tall and thin.

They are both thin, I'll give them that. Both have figures I would kill for.

As far as height goes, I'm not sure how tall Uma is, but Sarah Jessica is tiny. She's like 5'1" or 5'2" and her husband Matthew Broderick isn't a lot taller. I've seen both of them in person and trust me on this--they are of petite stature.
