I visited Celebration in it's beginning stages when the main bldgs were built but not many homes. I have wanted for years to go back & this time since we are staying in a condo off site instead of on property we will have a rental car, so we were thinking of driving over one afternoon & checking it out. Anybody done this lately? Any suggestions of a nice place to eat lunch or dinner there & anything specific to see. :wave2:

For a reasonably priced lunch, good selection, and good food, DH and I enjoy the Market Street Cafe. It is reminiscent of an old-fashioned diner. The chicken parmesan with caesar salad was excellent -- huge portion. I think DH had a burger which he said was also good. We've never eaten there for dinner, nor any of the other restaurants.

We had lunch at the Celebration Hotel one day (in the lobby/bar area) and it was ok. Very nice atmosphere and the food was fine, although nothing to rave about. Also reasonably priced for lunch. The restaurant at the hotel is quite expensive.

we love celebration... although it is a bit spooky..

we always go there for an afternoon and our son plays in the dancing fountains and we have lunch or dinner there too and a wander around the shops.

We love it at the time, but after we have gone we always say... ewww.. that is a bit stepford wives isnt it!?

I think its the piped music in the streets that does it!!!

Still my dream house is in celebration. just looking at it makes me go weak at the knees..
its only $1,000,000 - I might have two!

If the Stepford Wives has skateboarding kids with blue hair, I might agree with ya. :)

Thanks you guys for your responses. I think I have decided on lunch at Market Street Cafe followed by ice cream at Hermans. Can't wait to see all the changes since I went years & years ago. I've always been fascinated with the place. :teeth:

This is one of the reasons we didn't build in Celebration. No offense to the poster, I just think it would be weird living in a community that's a tourist attraction.

It's bad enough that we get carloads of people drivint through my not quite sold out development on the weekends pointing at the different houses and and not paying attention to where they are driving. I guess that's what it would be like to live in the White House or Buckingham palace!

True Anne! I heard storied of when Celebration first went in. Tourists walking into peoples' homes and such. :)

I go there to eat, bank, and occassionally use the post office. Other than that, I like to respect the fact that it is just another neighborhood.

Both my husband and I too have said that this is defintately a Stepford Wives type community. We say it each time we go there. As to it being a tourist attraction well people had to know this would happen when they built there. Many places are and my feeling is do not buy there if you do not want people driving up and down your streets looking at your houses. As to people walking into private homes when they first opened I can see how that would happen. When they were first building it we went over to see what it was like. There were soooooo many model homes open that it was hard to tell them from the private. The signage was not all that good. While it did not happen to me I can see it happening to people a little more enthusiastic who were checking out these homes.

Columbia is great for lunch. So is Seito if you like sushi. Market Street Cafe is a lot of fun but service can be so/so. Hermans has great ice cream. When are you visiting? There is always something going on in town! We LOVE Celebration. It is a very nice community and the people here are wonderful. People come for a lot of the downtown events but I really don't see too many tourists checking things out.

The waffle cones at Herman's are wonderful. They bake them fresh right there!

Patricia,
We will be visiting in October. I have always been fascinated with Celebration & have even read a couple of books about it. I am glad you find it a nice place to live. If we ever moved to Florida, I think we would seriously consider moving to Celebration.
Can't wait to visit. :goodvibes

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the movie, The Truman Show, with Jim Carrey was filmed in Celebration.

You're wrong. The Truman Show was filmed in Seaside, FL.

Herman's is great. But I can tell you I got serious sticker shock when I bought two cones there once.

In Massachusetts and new hampshire (and I am sure many other places), Ice cream stands are VERY popular in the summer. Places like Hodgie's, Kimball's, and such have long lines in the summer. The kiddie cones are two scoops of ice cream and they cost like $3.

I bought two kiddie cones at Herman's and I swear it cost me over $10!

I know, silly thing to complain about when talking about a good cone of ice cream, but come on! Talk about taking advantage of being the only game in town! (for cones anyway).

Thanks for the kind words about our town. It really is a nice place to live, as well as visit. We consider ourselves lucky every day. We do get the "Stepford Wives" comparison an a lot. We had a movie night awhile back and watched it to see what all the fuss was about.... and nearly fell off our chairs when the mastermind in the movie turned out to be a former Disney animator!!!

Have fun visiting!

We love Celebration, especially the Farmer's Market on Sunday. It is a wonderful place to just walk around and have a nice lunch. We are currently building in a development that has been modeled after Celebration and my DH and I always laugh and say it is just like Stepford Wives but we love it!!

Sorry you had such a bad experience at Herman's Ted. I don't recommend the lunches there, but we do go all the time for cones.

A child's cone is 2 ounces of ice cream for $1.70 and an adult's cone is 4 1/2 ounces for $2.99.

Hope you'll visit again.

It wasn't bad, just a surprise. I wonder if i was overcharged then.

How do you convert scoops to ounces and vice versa? :)
