I realize this doesn't start until April 1st but I'm curious if anyone knows more about it than what the website says:

Do you think this will be considered a "character meal?" I'm considering booking it instead of Minnie & Friends on our last day in the parks...

What do you all think?

my boys ages when we're there will be 5, 3 and 1

The BBQ at Big Thunder Ranch doesn't appear to be a character meal.

The following is from this week's MP DLR update:

The Disney Dine Line is now accepting reservations for the Celebration Round Up and BBQ at Big Thunder Ranch, a new dining option introduced as part of the "What Will You Celebrate?" marketing campaign. The new dining location is expected to open Thursday, April 2. The menu includes barbecue ribs and chicken, corn on the cob, cornbread, barbecue beans and coleslaw, served with a cupcake dessert for $28.99 per adult and $18.99 per child, including tax and tip [not true, see update below]. You can also order "Celebration Add-Ons" in advance, including goody bags, celebration cakes and even personalized, customized sheet cakes.

:earsboy:

ETA:

Correction: The price $28.99/$18.99 does NOT include tax and tip.

Tax is 8.75%. Disney's suggested tip is 15% (18% for parties 6 or larger)

You'll be greeted upon arrival by a ranch hand, and directed to a counter to pre-pay for your meal. The price is $28.99 for adults and $18.99 for kids. This does not include tax or 15% gratuity, which are added to your total when you pay.

No ones knows yet......we will have updates when our members start visiting but unfortunately that won't help you much.

Disney has implied that a character would be there in photos and words. It would be something boys would like as there is a petting zoo there. It is a boy type of experience apparently. You are nominated as the test subject for disboards, have fun and do report in.:lmao:

Hmmm.... but, girls like petting zoos and country too. :cutie:

oh cool we can add a celebration cake too! We're planning on going for DD's 10th birthday. It won't be until June though, I'm sure somebody will report in before then. :confused3

We have PS's for April 3rd for my son's birthday - will let you know how it goes!

PS - the website does say 'characters', so I am assuming there will be characters. But in what capacity, I guess we'll find out!

The CM I spoke to when making my PS's for the bbq told me kids "get a goody bag" not that I had the option to pay extra for one....

I cannot wait to here the reviews and see some pictures!!

I was a girl who dug tunnels in the back yard, had farms, and played with Tonka trucks. Girls will play with boy things but not all boys will play with dolls and feather boas. There is so much princess stuff in the parks that it is about time they had something manly and rough and tumble instead of cutesy like Ariel's Grotto.princess:

Psst, also original poster has a herd of boys, lol.

When I phoned disneydining a few weeks ago, I was also told each child received a goody bag....implied it was included, not an add on.

I was also told the price did NOT include tax and tip.

Finally, I was told it is not technically a character meal, so there are no guarentees any characters will appear

with this all being new, I bet if I called 10 times, I would get 10 variations and answers. I guess we will just have to wait until the 2 (or 3rd, since that is the first date I have seen mentioned on this thread that someone is going)

We have reservations for Thursday, April 9....will definitely post a review here...was told when making my ressie that the $28.99 INCLUDED tax and tip, as reported on MP as well.

Psst.... if we let boys go freely where they want without encouraging them based on gender, I bet many would LOVE Ariel's Grotto.

Psst Psst... so I think we can agree that it is something for everyone. Not something for the boys. :) (Which was my point)

LOL - I think I will book it in lieu of Minnie & Friends but can't wait to hear the reviews from those who go next month!

FWIW, my 5 year old is VERY anti-princess at the moment... I could barely get him to sit through Alladin. However... My Little Pony and Barbie's Dream Castle are on his list of movies he wishes we owned. LOL. You just can't win!

I do think I must make him watch Cinderella before we go to Disneyland though...

I just called and made reservations for the Celebration Roundup and was given an explanation of the whole "Is it a character meal or not" question. Apparently it is a character experience, and the characters will be there as entertainment, but they will not interact with guests directly. The characters will be entertaining the guests (I'm guessing some sort of show? The Woody's Roundup Show maybe?) Hence the discrepancy between what we are reading and hearing.

I was also told there will be a photo location at the beginning of the meal, but the person I spoke with didn't know whether it was a character photo or just a scenic photo.

Just thought I'd pass this along!

I just called to make a different priority seating and was told that it's "buffeteria" style meaning: They put the food on your table family style and you share with your family (ribs, chicken, etc). She also said that Woody and Jesse would be "making rounds." So interesting what tidbits we get from different cast members!

I would take one :) Especially if we were to go for my bday! :)
