Hi! I'm Ellen, I've posted on several forums about my plans for my first solo trip.
My mother passed away on February 20th, 2011 at the age of 51. Far too young, I feel robbed. My ma was my best friend, my travel partner, the only person who understood and encouraged and shared my love for Disney World. We went everywhere together. I truly feel lost, only with the guidance she left me.
Mother's day is quickly approaching, as I have no intention of acknowledging the day any further than my mother's ashes that rest on my dresser. However, I find that it is mandatory, necessary for my own growth and acceptance, to celebrate her birthday on July 2nd.
And where else would be deemed appropriate? Disney World.
I plan to go on my very first six day, seven night solo trip in remembrance of everything magical and wonderful of the relationship I shared with my mother. I plan on leaving Chicago Wednesday June 29th and sadly leaving the World on Tuesday July 5th.
I priced out POP and have already booked the DxL dining plan. The only glitch in my plans is my employer. I worked with her last night (I just started at this new location because I relocated after my mother's passing further from my job). I expressed my plans for this trip and she sharply replied:
"Well, I asked you in your interview if you planned on any vacations. You know you aren't advised to take any vacations within the first 90 days of hire. And, others may wish for that holiday 4th of July off."
I didn't know how else to respond but politely adding, "I never planned any of this, but appreciate everything for what it's worth. I just really need to celebrate my mother's life"
She left it at that and had my write my dates down.
I am contemplating what to do if she says " NO! You can NOT go!"
So that's my story. That's my reason.
Now, let me introduce you to a bit of who I am.
I'm Ellen
I'm a 21 year old full-time college student and Guest Service Agent at a well known hotel property. I enjoy customer service, and hope to one day advocate for those who have been through the same experiences as myself. I love everything Disney World. I listen to the Four Parks One World sountrack while driving in my suit to work, silly, I know. I have yet to find my prince, I've only found frogs so far
I hope you will join me throughout the next few months on this journey. The planning, the excitement, life.
