We just decided to take my daughter to DL & DCA for her 6th birthday in a couple of weeks. We are AP holders, but this will just be her second time here (first time was in May).

I’m trying to think of ways to make her birthday special, while still staying on a budget. :confused3

Any suggestions for a special dinner on the evening of her birthday? Someplace that does something special for those celebrating birthdays, perhaps? (We’re on a budget, so unfortunately character meals and the Blue Bayou are out.)

She won’t have a cake this year, but I still wanted something special for dessert. Is there anywhere in the park that would have a birthday dessert?

Anything else special (again… trying to keep the cost down. No BBB makeovers etc. this trip) we should put on our list for a 6 year old girl? We’ll be sure and get her a “birthday button” when we arrive! princess:

Thanks.

I imagine that just by telling CM's and characters that it is her b-day and wearing the button, she will get lots of special attention.

Maybe as a gift you could give her someting special that the characters could autograph...maybe a book bag or purse or something...and then it would be a gift and a momento....we have a canvas bad that we get character to autograph instead of an autograph book...it is my favorite Disney "souvineer" b/c I can use it all year...

You could also make up an invitation from Mickey, Minnie or Cinderella inviting her to celebrate her b-day w/ them...then b4 she gets in line to do the meet and greet be sure the people that help the "characters" know that it is her b-day...

sounds like great fun to spend your 6th b-day at DL!!! ;)

Yes, if she wears a Birthday Button she will get LOADS of attention for sure!
My sister got engaged and her and her fiance got "just engaged" pins at the very end of our last day in the park, so they only had the pins on for like 2 hours and they got SOOO many "congrats" from CMs.
I'm sure if any of the talking characters (princesses etc) see her pin they will definitely wish her a happy bday. I think that would make her trip pretty special/memorable.

I wanna go on my bday so i can get a pin and have everyone wish me a happy bday lol! But my bday is New Years Eve, I hear the crowds are intense!!

Have fun!:tink:

You can get a little cake at most restaurants. :) You just order it and add it on. When we purchased one (dec 09) it was $15 and it was actually pretty good. :) If you don't see one ask, if they don't have one they will have suggestions for you. there are also HUGE cupcakes available at a lot of the sweet shops, one of those might hit the spot for her.

Get her a bday button, she'll get lots of wishes and that will thrill her. I was going to suggest Rainforest Cafe for a meal but I don't think that will save you any money.....we liked to do BB and AG for our bday meals, but we were able to budget enough for that and we cut corners on other meals. Maybe something at the French Market? Or even dining off-site for her bday meal might be good.

Last year for my kids' b-days we were on a budget and we ate at Carnation Cafe. They have a kids meal called the "Peanut butter painters palette". Kids can make/decorate their own PB&J sandwich. It comes on a wooden painter's palette shaped platter with PB already spread on one slice of bread, and served on the side are mini marshmallows, raisins, jelly, and banana slices that they can add to the sandwich. We told them it was their b-day and they brought out a scoop of ice cream with whipped cream and Mickey sprinkles. My husband and I just had the loaded baked potato soup, it is soooo yummy and comes with a bread roll. I think it only costs around $5 or $6 for the soup.

Any of the sit down restaurants will give her a free birthday dessert!!

Ask if you can ride in the front of the monorail......ask if you can go in the wheelhouse of the Mark Twain......all you have to do is ask!! We got to do both for our anniversary......it was something really special!!

My son wore "birthday" ears & it really got him a ton of attention & he turned 21 that day.......so a 6 yr old would get even more!!!

We went for my nieces birthday a few mos ago. We always have dinner at pizza port. I brought my own Princess themed paper plates and napkins. We bought a brownie put some candles from home in it and sang Happy Birthday!. It wasn't much but it made a special dinner. Make sure you bring a lighter. It was hard to find someone to light the candles!!

oh really? That's good to know! :cool1:

Great suggestions. She's getting soooo excited!!

If you do a sit-down restaurant.....make sure you ask if they do anything special for birthdays.....usually it's a dessert of some sorts & then remind your server as well!!

I read about someone bringing a birthday card and having the characters sign that. It would be a cool, cheap birthday souvineer!

We did Blue Bayou just for dessert for DS's 6th birthday. 2 special souvenir kids cups w/light up toys, 2 coffees, 2 desserts + tax/tip for under $35 (used AP 10% off.) Requested table on the water and DS was so excited--did not eat a bite of the (admittedly not so great) desserts but kept saying it was the best birthday ever! We spent only about 30 minutes there and it's still one of the things the kids bring up over and over (we've spent about 40 days at DL over the last 2 years and they thought they'd done it all.)
Have her sit front and center at any shows/activities wearing her birthday button--it seems like DKs get picked more often on birthdays :)
If you have the Disney Visa you can do the meet & greet photo op in DCA then when you pick up your free 5x7 they will put a border you choose--lots of cute options; I think I've seen birthday choices.
Buy a princess dress now--$25 or less at Target, Walmart, etc. or $60 in the park... :) Costco has pettiskirts for $17 now that make the $10 princess dresses look fantastic (adds fullness.) DD wears her birthday princess dress for Halloween each year too so double duty and years of dress up fun!
Glitter hairspray is easy to find (Halloween time)--look at the princess hairstyles for Bibbity Bobbity Boutique and copy in your hotel room for almost free before you head to the park.
If she doesn't want to wear a dress (or to wear under the dress) Walmart always has Disney outfits for $5 or so...
