The company I work for is being sold and I just found out that the new owners are planning to move our offices within the next year. Currently I drive about 17 miles (but about 45 minutes on a good day b/c of traffic) one way to get to work. Plus I pay two tolls.

We are moving to 1/2 mile away from my house!!!! :cool1: I really don't even have to leave my neighborhood to get there.

That means I will save approximately $250 a month in gas and tolls, not to mention the wear and tear on my car. It's like getting a $3000 a year raise! I'm so excited! I will be able to go home for lunch, walk to work on nice days and be close to my son's school in case he needs me for anything! Plus I get to add almost two hours to my day! Can you tell I'm thrilled?:cloud9:

Congrats! I know how wonderful it is just have the time, let alone the money savings. My DH used to drive 1 1/2 on a good day each way. Now he can be home in 20-25 minutes.

That's great. I used to work within walking distance of home and it was SO nice. I'm still only 5-10 minutes away by car, but it's not walkable, and I miss having that option.

That's wonderful!!!

At our old house I use to be able to walk our daughter to daycare and then walk to work along a river. It was so nice! I had the option of being able to pick my daughter up early every now and then and pull her in a wagon to our local lakeside/playground area. Sigh... I miss that. I never did get to do that with our son.

Congratulations:banana:
I am in a really similar situation. My old job was 17 miles away, plus I did a lot of driving for the job. I got a new job a few months ago and it is 1.8 miles door to door. It is GREAT! I can't walk, but I come home for lunch, am local in case the kids need me and get home really quickly after work. I really love it and am already feeling a huge difference in gas spending. That's more money for Disney!

:cool1: Happy for you! About 7 years ago my office moved 20 min driving time closer. I have a 10 minute commute! I was thrilled about that, can imagine how much more joy there would be in losing 2 tolls as well!!!! :goodvibes

Congrats. I totally understand. I now drive 21 miles each way to work and back. With traffic, it takes about 45 min to an hour each way. I would LOVE if that happened to me.

:)Now you are going to be like me. My 6 year old car has less than 30,000 miles, because my office for the past 5 years was less than 1 mile away from my house. My husband normally takes my car to the dealership for service, since it is on his way to work--the guys that work at the dealership think he is bring in his grandma's car. :rotfl:

The only problem is no matter what happens at your job, you will never be motivated to get another one. It is too close to be bothered. **Oh, also you may wish to bring your home location to the attention of the companies owners. I ended up being a "key holder" for the security system and the fire department in the event of an emergency--that new role, which only required me to drive there once came a nice little raise.

I was the same way. I worked 25 miles away from my house, but two years ago was chosen to participate in a Work From Home pilot, and I've been in my home office ever since. I love paying for gas every two-three weeks instead of every three-four days!

And your savings are tax free! You'd have to pay taxes on a raise!

Wow! That's great! My DH has a 1 1/2 hour commute each way, whether he drives or takes the rapid transit. I can't imagine how nice it would be to have all that extra time in your day, plus the extra savings!
