Greetings! I’m a newbie on this board, only plugged in for assistance with planning and it was monumentally helpful! Huge thanks to all of you who are always willing to answer the the dumbest of questions! This is our first Disney World trip in 17 years, yet I do have a fanatic in the family. We are here because of the youngest DD and to celebrate her 21st birthday!

Life got in the way as it often does. We had some wonderful Disney trips when the girls were young, then moved abroad to Shanghai, PRC for a three year stint as an expat. That resulted in 3 Disneyland Hong Kong trips. All three stays were at the Disneyland Hotel- beautiful place on Lantau Island perched on the water overlooking Discovery Bay. The hotel is modeled after the GF, but really after the Hotel Del Coranado, of course. The park itself is perfect sized- you can do the entire park in a day then repeat all that fun the following day, without it getting old. Here are a few HK Disneyland memories to get this party rolling! That’s DD posing with Daisy Duck! My how time flies... 5A33A033-8417-4573-B92D-4B83A5CC7208.jpeg20ED82E4-6A75-49A8-9486-1BB602577195.jpeg804F1CDD-7A69-45A5-840F-8DF922EBD598.jpeg4158E30C-D1DB-45F1-B3BA-1D2E1E301270.jpeg

We returned to the US to Plano, TX then moved home to Louisville, KY 10 years ago. Once back in the US, club volleyball took over our lives - traveling with both girls left us heading in different directions, each parent with one daughter and weekend tournament duties. The bright side, AAUs were always in Orlando and that resulted in a few Disney park visits over the years. But, the girls, as they got older, developed a taste for Harry Potter and thrill rides and that typically ended in bolt on vacations at Universal Studios. We could stay in a deluxe hotel and gain fast pass access for the four of us. That worked well for us. Here’s the youngest DD celebrating her 18th at Universal- perfect “It’s my Birthday” shot. Last history of the history/introductions I promise! We did make an important trip to Disneyland and CA. Important for two reasons, the youngest DD checked off two bucket list items - see World of Color, the water projection show at CA and experience Disney at Christmas. This trip accomplished both. Maybe more life-changing, the oldest DD decided on that trip she was moving to CA, San Diego to be exact. She had won a national championship in Volleyball at a NAIA college was entertaining D1 offers. She landed a scholarship to play volleyball at San Diego state!
Here’s just a quick few snaps of that trip. Note, the pic just doesn’t do the projection show justice! We did a dinner+show event and DD was waterside for the show. DH and I stood back a bit to stay Dry. She was moved to tears- it was beautiful!

Here’s our everything- our adult daughters. Only the youngest, the blonde is with us on this trip. She brought a college friend from the University of Kentucky. Yes, for college, the oldest went as far away as possible and stay in the continental US (Shes 8 miles from the West Coast at Mission Beach) and the youngest went an hour up the road to college! The oldest DD is preparing for her return to SDSU. She’s finished volleyball and has one semester left to complete three majors. The other pics are from this Derby.

Now to This trip! Planning started in 2019- remember those good ole carefree Days?? We were to celebrate DD’s 20th birthday in July, 2020. The world had other ideas. All through the first of the pandemic I was SURE all would return to normal and we’d make our trip- that did not happen. We were booked at the Swan. Well that did not open. Our flights to Orlando canceled- but believe it or not, Disney opened on July 11! That meant we were left with pre-purchased tickets (our first park reservation was for July 11!). With only park tickets left from the hours of planning, We canceled.

Sometimes the universe knows best and now we are here to celebrate her 21st with plans to Drink Around the World tomorrow.

The girls are at AK as I compose my report. I injured a knee Friday night - patched up at the ER,
Purchased a “transport chair” from Walgreens and made the flight Saturday! So, DH and I canceled out of today. Logistics are just hard...

Here’s your morning report from AK along with morning wait times - the girls waited nearly two hours for Flight of Passage and loved it! You must
Read the text from DD!! Love... made my heart smile! 900B45E6-D94A-40EB-B701-4B1D9971EA2F.jpeg91C741DF-BFCB-443E-9AB1-9534F3AE4F8D.jpeg98EAB24D-9536-45A3-867B-BD0A2CA44820.jpeg689938FA-418A-413E-8A7F-B464A76C5510.png9011072B-219C-49F5-A891-0EBD641BCDA3.jpeg

DINING REVIEW- HOUSE OF BLUES

We had an 8:30 ADR, But landed three hours late. They seated DH and I at 10:15- I still don’t know if I will be charged for not making my reservation time??? I could not Change it online even though later times were available. Here’s what we ordered:
- Wedge salad- $12. Good wedge salad. Served on romaine hearts not iceberg lettuce. Well dressed.
- Cup of Gumbo/bowl of gumbo- cup was $8 unsure on cost of bowl. This could have been great! Came out very quick- looked pre-plated. Was only warm in the center... flavor outstanding!
- Voodoo Shrimp-$16. Good but a little odd- sort of sweet in a way that did not make it great and it could have been. Thick brown sauce over excellent jalapeño corn bread. Shrimp large but over cooked and chewy.
- Crispy Brussels Sprouts - $6 - excellent! But we love this dish
And to drink
- Havana Twist Mojito $14 - just ok. Had raspberry and blackberry but only tasted mint
- Yuengling $6 - perfect!
Overall we gave it a C+. Service was off without the restaurant being busy. Could have been much better!

12:45 ADR for Morimottos. Late! This was Downtown Disney last time we were here... did not estimate the time just getting here! Here’s rhe menu- what are your favorites?!625F90AD-5C08-44E8-A195-0E63A47341F4.jpeg1613EE96-CC5F-46D3-8BD6-F3E6E6A061E4.jpegA4EB4B7A-D176-4429-B6F7-A9381F95410B.jpeg625F90AD-5C08-44E8-A195-0E63A47341F4.jpeg

Animal Kingdom update- weather 89 feels like 189! Ride times below. From DD:
- Festival of the Lion King is better in English
- Simba was Hot! 7072DE66-1175-4FAB-A41D-D1E83ABAD72A.jpeg

Morimotto first course- cold beer!
- Pulp Friction $10 - IPA with way too much grapefruit!
- Kirin Ichiban- draft $10 - excellent!

LUNCH AT MORIMOTTO
Truly enjoyed this restaurant. DH is a avid Asian cuisine fan, so this was a must do. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. My husband thought the menu was limited and I’m not sure we ordered well. We started with a full rack of ribs, delicious! But we think an order of three would have been plenty. They are seriously substantial- meaty, sticky, sweet, savory. Yum! The entree sized order came with a side of rice. They were $35.

We also shared the beef lo mein noodles. This dish was excellent- full of perfectly cooked filet mignon, mushrooms, ginger in a lovely brown sauce. This seemed like a bargain at $25.

The two together were more than we could eat. The pork ribs are misleading in the photo- the platter was huge!

Total before tip. $85

Overall rating - B+ Service was good, facility lovely, food expertly prepared, flavors unique and enjoyable. We would just order a bit differently when we return!

You can't beat a flight of beers and the Fish & Chips with bread pudding if you have room for dessert. Also Fish & Chips can be ordered Gluten Free if needed.

DOUBLETREE DISNEY SPRINGS REVIEW
Pre-pandemic, also known as “before” I was a well-heeled business traveler, making 4 to 6 trips per month. My company stays with Hilton brand properties - that means a litany of points and fairly strong brand loyalty. That’s how this hotel choice came to be- that and space. This hotel provides for separate spaces (living and sleeping) and we do well with that. I also needed two rooms since DD and friend were traveling with us so booking with points came in handy.

I read a pretty terrible review on this site a couple weeks ago, but did not get around to making a change. So, here we are! I booked one room with points and one I paid for. Of course, this hotel also charges a $23 per night per room “resort” fee. This is NOT a resort. For that you get wi-if and two bottles of water- perks I receive for “free” as a Diamond member. Except here, that’s not so. I also get to pay $22 per night to park. So, the add-ons really add up!

As a business traveler, I have also never experienced this kind of “hold” on your credit card. Up front, they charge your entire stay and $75 per night per room “incidental” charge (along with all their extra charges). I feel like I’m back in college staying at a Daytona Beach “motel” and they want to be sure we don’t skip off without paying, or that our card won’t be “good” upon checkout. Here, my 10+ years at Hilton’s highest loyalty level (without skipping out on even ONE bill or Having my card deny charges even ONE time) doesn’t buy me grace!Nope, we are all treated like vagrants. It sets a, what, distant tone for your stay?

Hilton just started their new nightly food and beverage credit in lieu of free breakfast for diamond members. I just learned that is a daily “use it or lose it” credit. Sigh.

Now about the “resort” (I just can’t). I will start with the positives:
- The smell. For a much older hotel, their “signature scent” rocks! Really a nice touch.
- Second is space. The rooms are spacious,
Why we booked here. Space is always appreciated.

And the challenges... where to start.
- This place is DATED. Upon entry to the lobby and throughout, this place needs a full reno. I’d place this decor in the early 2000’s? Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
- Cleanliness/service- we were greeted by a front desk staff member who explained they do not service their rooms. It’s sooooo much better now, he explains. Guests are provided garbage bags. We just place our garbage and dirty towels outside the door and housekeeping will pick them up. If we need more towels, just call. Self-service! I asked “I read service was available upon request”?? He is puzzled- you WANT your room SERVICED??? He didn’t seem to know what to do with my ridiculous request. “We’re here 5 nights” I explained. “Resort” they call it... Right.
To make matters worse, we get to our room only to find the last guest’s used coffee Supplies on the bar. Now I get it, they really do not clean the rooms!
- the beds- crazy hard. I read that complaint on this site, but thought”how bad can it be?” Let me assure you- that bad.
- the bedding- while they appear clean, they are some of the roughest I’ve ever slept on. Got to last a couple decades... you wake fully exfoliated! If you sleep on this terribly hard mattress...
- No balconies so no outdoors space.
- Thin walls. I also read this and it is true. I found myself mentally putting cough suppressant for my neighbor on my shopping list. Poor soul.

We won’t eat here so no dining review. I can tell you packaged snack are terribly expensive from their shop that closes at 11- this is a resort,
Remember...

here are a few pics. While old, the furniture appears to be in good repair.

We went to Dublin, Ireland two years ago- we LOVED the food- mostly the fish and chips and beer!!! Great suggestion for sure!!

No rain at hotel near Buena Vista. Pouring at Disney Springs less then 1 mile away... returned for umbrellas!

Great suggestion! The fish and chips were outstanding!! The show during dinner was such fun! Thank you hubbie!!

Disney Springs was beautiful at night! What an incredible array of shopping, dining and entertainment. I’m pretty sure we’ve only explored about a quarter so far! Enjoy the pics
