celebrating birthday not on birthday

Of course I can celebrate my birthday/anniversary when ever I want. Would I ask for and wear a birthday button on a trip in October when my birthday is in July? Would I let a cruise line know I’m celebrating a birthday/anniversary on my cruise in July when my birthday was weeks earlier or my anniversary is in March? How about a button or a cake that says-it’s around the time of my birthday/anniversary?
I’ll be celebrating my 30th anniversary on a cruise next year. Will I tell staff that my anniversary is during the cruise if it’s not? No. Doesn’t mean I can’t celebrate during the cruise. I’m not lying or pretending but celebrating.

It's pretty tough having a birthday on a holiday. My DD's birthday is on the 4th of July and not only is there a whole other host of celebrations going on that day, very often friends or family are out of town for the holiday so it's hard for people she wants to celebrate with to always be there. Also, she really wants to be on a cruise or has also asked to be at WDW on her birthday. Not only are July 4 cruises more expensive, but I don't think I would set foot in WDW on July 4. *shudder* So for all these reasons, we often celebrate DD's birthday on another day. I'm sure a lot of other folks with holiday birthdays can relate. :)

Celebrate it! My DD's bday is late November so every 6 years hers is Thanksgiving...it's always been almost impossible to get people together during "fall break" for parties, etc. We almost always approximate her birthday with the trip/celebration/etc.

Enjoy and let your DD have cake, a button, the whole fun experience :)

A math teacher here ... let’s be precise and celebrate 7.25th or 10.04th birthday then! A celebration is a celebration! No lie; no pretend!! Just enjoy the Disney magic! Let a child or youth-at-heart have a special day!!

We're leaving on our upcoming land and sea trip about 4 days after our anniversary because my husband and I couldn't get time off of work on our actual anniversary. You bet we'll still be celebrating during our entire trip!

We were on the 11 night Norway/Iceland cruise. My husband's birthday fell towards the end of the cruise - day 9 or so. I had put on our reservation a request for the complimentary birthday dessert on his birthday. I confirmed it again when we checked in, and they gave him a button to wear on the day. So imagine our surprise when on about the 2nd or 3rd night, our servers came over to the table with his birthday dessert singing happy birthday to him! We all just laughed and thanked them and never let on that his birthday was actually a week or so later.

So, OP, as everyone else has said - it's perfectly fine to celebrate a birthday on a day other than the actual date of someone's birth. Heck, you could end up doing so, even if you aren't trying to! :rotfl2:

We celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, or any notable accomplishment with a cruise, one cruise a year. This year will be our 34th anniversary, my DH's sister and her husband's 40th, and I received my Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. We're all alive a well, therefore, 4 birthdays. We only celebrate one night of the cruise, but we celebrate and our dining room servers get a kick out of celebrating all good things on that one special night. Go ahead and celebrate. They won't check your drivers license or marriage certificate !!!!! Enjoy your with your family and friends.

My birthday is Christmas Day. We are cruising in Jan and I've already said one night I'd like to celebrate my birthday. The rest of the trip will be kid heavy, especially my daughter whom this is her first Disney vacation. It's hard having a major holiday and a birthday on the same day so this will be nice

Summer birthday girl here - July 20. No holidays, but smack in the midst of summer vacation when I was growing up. Friends weren't always around for a party - but I'd have it anyway for those who were. :)

BUT... My first elementary school I attended, the principal also had a summer birthday and remembered watching his classmates celebrate at school and he never got to, so he had a "policy" that any child with a summer birthday was allowed to select another day to celebrate an "unbirthday" at school. :) I usually picked my "half-birthday" for my celebration day.
Same. June 12th here. Never got to celebrate with classmates. Next year we sail 3 days after my birthday. Maybe I’ll celebrate it on the cruise. I’ll think on it. We never travel June thru August so this is the closest I’ve ever been!

I can't believe we are debating whether it is appropriate to celebrate a birthday on a day other than your birthday. LOL

All the OP needs to know is that DCL is more than happy to help you celebrate anything you want on any day you want. Am I suggesting you have an event per day for each person? I am not. But you should feel comfortable knowing that DCL will be happy to embrace the plan you have suggested.

As for the rest of us, we can all take a page from Alice in Wonderland, and have a very Merry Unbirthday, 364 days a year!

A very Merry Unbirthday to YOU! (and you!)

I'm going to ask for a button that says "I'm celebrating something, and it's none of your business." ;)

Or one that just says...."Let's Celebrate" ! We like to celebrate our anniversaries onboard but can't always celebrate on our actual anniversary date. We never had a problem celebrating a bit early or late.

We cruise June 16-23 and my DD's birthday is July 4. DD really really wanted a cruise over her birthday, but this itinerary just worked better for us. Have you ever celebrated a birthday on an evening of your cruise when it isn't actually the person's birthday? Is that appropriate? We're a couple weeks short - just not sure if that's pushing it a bit.

Totally appropriate. Disney loves to celebrate. I'm going on my birthday cruise several months late. Various family members have also celebrated months early or late on ships or in the parks. It's all good. Either DCL reservations or your serving team will ask which night you'll want to celebrate your birthday. Depending on the serving team you have, they could make a bigger deal than others.

With the large number of table celebrations taking place on every cruise, there is no way that all of those people are celebrating on the day of. Enjoy celebrating that you are on a cruise and have fun, the staff enjoy the celebrations.
