Celebrating at POFQ/AKL in September 2015! COMPLETE

Sounds like a great day!!! You're lucky to have more than one Epcot day to really see all the countries...that's where I always wish I had more time...

World Showcase is possibly my very favorite part of WDW! When I worked there, I even got to wade in the ponds in the China pavilion taking care of all the water plants!

Well that's super cool! Epcot, especially world showcase is my favorite. That's why I love staying at the Epcot resorts.

We are hoping to go again in 2017 for the Food and Wine Festival and to see the new Avatar land in AK. I am trying to convince my family to do a split stay so we can stay part of the time at the Beach Club Resort! I would love to be able to just walk to EPCOT and back and be next to the boardwalk and within a ferry ride of HS! My dad really likes the AKL and WL but he's open to staying at the BCR for part of the trip.

Yes! Talk them into the Epcot area for sure! YC is my fav & BC is DHs fav. Let me tell you why I love YC, very little reasons:
1. I feel like SAB is closer to YC & we used it more whereas at BC we use the quiet pool more
2. 99% of rooms at YC have the full balcony (you know how I keep saying I love balconys & people watching), half of BCs are the mini Juliette balconys
3. 1st pick up (so you always get a seat on the bus)& 1st drop off at night, BC is the 2nd pick up/drop off
4. Closer to the lighthouse dock for the boat
5. Captain grille has about the same exact breakfast buffet sans characters for like $18(I think), great deal at Disney, of course it super easy to walk there from BC
6. Lobby is not as busy, BC is always crazy busy from those waiting for Cape May

Things I like about BC:
1. Love this lobby the best
2. They have the Marketplace QS with the soda dispensers (YC is outside at the Pool bar, & only in am the bar inside)
3. Closer to Epcot

I'm happy for either, but YC pulls me a little more.

Thanks for the tips! My parents stayed at the YC when they came to visit while I was working at EPCOT. I'm happy with either - not sure if there is a price difference? I guess I can price out a pretend trip for this fall to see! :)

It's the same price, but sometime YC seems to seem to have less availability as it's a convention hotel. So they seem to hold back rooms for the conventions.

Are you booking a bounce back?

Oh, I totally forgot that it's a convention hotel!

Are you booking a bounce back?

I would like to - but we're planning for 2017 and I don't know that we'll have a 2016 trip... although I'm hoping we will or maybe I'll do a solo trip if not! Are bounce backs only good for a year after your initial trip? Not sure how they work.

Depending when you go determines when the bounce back is good for & the offers change. There's supposed to be a flyer in your welcome folder at check in, but sometimes not. You just need to call the bounce back number & ask for current offers BEFORE you check out. Now you can always book it with your down payment & then cancel or change dates (I think within certain guidelines). I'd say about a week before your trip post on here asking for current bounce back, it gives you a good idea of what may be offered & then you can check at work for possible availability before you're in WDW & then unsure if it's possible with work schedule. I've seen bounce backs as much as 40% off rack rate to things like free dining, you never know. I've booked a bounce back once, and it worked out well.

Thanks for the info! I will definitely check into this!

Okay you guys... I think I might be a wee bit crazy. I've been working on switching up some of our ADR's and jumping ahead to Thursday of our week at WDW, I wanted to go have breakfast at Boma when they open at 7:30am. This would give us time to eat and get to AK for park opening. Only glitch would be getting to Boma by 7:30am since according to the WDW website, buses don't start running until 45 minutes prior to park opening at 9am.

Cue the crazy me. I thought, wouldn't it be nice to be staying at AKL so we could just go down for our 7:30 breakfast with no travel issues to deal with? Looked on the website and low and behold, standard rooms are available with the late summer discount for $61 more per night than POR during our stay.

Now I'm thinking of staying the first 3 nights at POR and the last 3 at AKL... which would add about $200 total to our trip... thoughts?? Am I a crazy person??
My dad loves this resort and of course it is a deluxe so I wouldn't have any complaints either. Just kind of crazy that I'm thinking of doing this all for a breakfast! :lmao:

I don't think you're crazy at all! I think breakfast just stirred the idea up in you. $200 more split by 3 people is an awesome deal. Would you be doing the breakfast the day you actually move or another day while staying? The actual move am may be too crazy for a Boma breakfast.

Have you ever looked into how much it would cost to rent dvc from David's for the whole trip at AKL?

Yeah, I didn't realize what a good deal the AKL is during our dates with the late summer room only discount! The breakfast would be the morning after we move resorts!

You read my mind, Angeejoe!! I've heard the dvc's can be hard to come by within a 7 month window but I'm getting ready to fill out a request with David's now since it would be even cheaper to stay at the AKL that way!!

I don't know if we'll stay the entire trip at AKL... mostly because I'd like to try a new resort and like the idea of taking the boat to DTD one evening. :lovestruc

It's smart to do the breakfast the day after a transfer there. The Boma dinner is really good too.

Were like mind twins lately! I hope David's has a good deal for you!

Oooohhhhh, what if you could get a great deal at David's & do a split stay at SSR for the boat & AKL for Boma? Of course depending on point availability.

Yep, we're doing Boma for dinner on our first night!!

I know, right?! :thumbsup2 Hmm... I hadn't thought of SSR. Wow, I'm totally going to have to scratch this pre-trip report if I mess with the plans too much! :rotfl:

SSR does look cool...am I bad influence? Lol :lmao:

Just called my parents and they are on board with switching to AKL for the last 3 nights of our trip. My mom brought up a good point about the dvc villas - the price range we would want would be a studio which would only have one bed. I'd be on the pull out couch. Since the chances are also slim that there would be a studio available and I probably wouldn't be too comfy on the couch anyway - we decided to just go with the standard room with the room only discount. The only thing I have to do now is make sure POR can move our bags to AKL that day so we don't have to lug them around. Will call them in the morning to make sure but I imagine they would do this...

Oh that's true about the beds! Sign up with David's specials email list as every so often he send out great last minute deals.

We had our luggage moved our last trip from BC to AKL with no problems, it was super easy! I think it will arrive by at least sometime in late afternoon. So keep out anything you may need sooner.
