Celebrating a birthday not on THE birthday?

We are heading down in May with my in-laws, and we are celebrating my FIL's 50th birthday, but his birthday is in March, and we are going in May for scheduling reasons. Has anyone celebrated a birthday not on the actual birthday? We have plans to take him to the Hoop De Doo and would like to get him picked on :) Also, my son's birthday is the week before we go, and I'd love for him to have a day too, but I'm afraid he might have a hard time with the concept of having a birthday again so soon (don't want him to get used to having a party every week!).

Thanks!

My cousin celebrates her DD's birthday several times when they go to WDW. They go in January, her DD's birthday is in Nov.

She doesn't think twice about it, wants her DD to enjoy the attention.

This year we will actually by at WDW on my birthday, I don't like the attention.

Have a good trip and enjoy it,
Ty

DH's 50th birthday will be the week after we get back from our Dec. trip. I plan to make a big deal of his big 5-0 while we are at WDW! You can't always time things exactly!

what do you do that different special for the Bday? Is there a special pin or hat to let CM know?

There is a pin available at every park - at City Hall in MK and at the other 3 parks at Guest Relations. When you get the pin, be sure to discretely ask about the "special phone call". They dial a special number & hand the birthday boy or girl the phone, it's a cute recorded birthday message from a character. It's fun!

thanks ElJay!!! It's worth a try! She'll remember her 8th forever!

We celebrated my 40th birthday in MK the day after. Personally I would feel kind of silly celebrating a birthday months later or pretending it is my birthday to get perks. I can't imagine telling my kids to pretend it is their birthday months later either. We are going in August, we have a June and July birthday, no way would they pick a day and go along with it.

I understand scheduling problems, but I don't think it's OK to pretend it's your birthday or anniversary months later just to get the extra attention. If you want to stretch it a little you could tell your Hoop-dee-doo server that you are celebrating your FIL's birthday and that would in fact be the truth.

My DW's birthday is always around Thanksgiving and we usually go the first week of Dec. We just tell them we are celibrating her birthday. She gets the pin and wears it all week. She is always getting happy birthday wishes from CM's and the caracters always play around it and all. I would just tel you are celibrating his birthday and have a great time. Sometimes for money or scheduling reasons you can not always be there during the birthday. Just have a great and magical time.

My dd did turn 6 while at WDW. We didn't do anything special other than dinner at Crystal Palace. I did tell them at the time I made ps that it was her b-day. All the characters came over and sang Happy Birthday and gave her a b-day cupcake and a card signed by all of them. Now....when we go in Aug I will be celebrating my 54th b-day. It is actually on 7/27 but I'm going out to dinner in WDW darn it!!! And no, I'm not making it known. It's not a BIG b-day number wise. But my dh always takes me someplace nice. Wherever I choose. This year I said..."Artist Point". What's 3 weeks, give or take??
