Celebrating 2007 with two weeks at the World...with pics; updated:a Day at MGM!

You see I am a psychotic planner. I love my DIS, I love my WDW books, I love my Travel Channel shows. My best friend calls my planning obsessing my hobby and she’s right. I plan the resorts, I scour the internet looking for coupons and deals on the rental cars, I budget, and I plan our ADR’s.
So I'm a psychotic planner too...glad to meet you...I'm glad I'm not alone!:rotfl:

Excellent trip report!!!!!!!!! I've had fun reading of your many adventures. We also love WL and stayed in Feb. Great times. Keep up the great work. :goodvibes

Patiently waiting for another installment seeing as it's the weekend now (assuming you aren't working at the weekend) :)

I miss having your trippy to read every day when I wake up :sad1:

Pics are awesome TFS

I'm a little late in finding this one, but I was able to catch up over the long weekend - loving your TR!! :thumbsup2 We stayed at the BWV in a Boardwalk View Studio last October & LOVED it!! :goodvibes

I just found your trip report! Love it!

Thank you all so much for reading!!!

This made me LOL because on our first trip to WDW, I was obsessed with finding the Sonic. We don't have any near us and I love, love, love the diet limeade (not cherry, just straight limeade). We kept calling the different Sonics listed in the phone book and at each one, no one could tell us how to get there. :confused3 Finally, we called the one at Wal-Mart and they were able to give us directions. Thank Goodness my dh is very understanding of my need for limeade. There's a reason I keep him around. :lmao:

I found this TR while reading your wonderful dining report. Thanks for the dose of Disney.

Isn't Sonic great!!! It drives us crazy because we don't have one up here, but we still see the commercials. Kills me!!

What great installments! I am so sad that we wont be hearing from you for a while and that you have to go back to work but at least you have another trip to look forward to. Although waiting generally seems sooooooo long the planning is always so much fun!!

Cant wait to hear from you again soon :goodvibes

Work is done for the week so I'll be updating tomorrow. I am determined to finish the reports and if I don't keep working on them, they will never get done. So I am having some ME time after a long 4 day week at work.

So I'm a psychotic planner too...glad to meet you...I'm glad I'm not alone!:rotfl:

HA! So very not alone!!!

Excellent trip report!!!!!!!!! I've had fun reading of your many adventures. We also love WL and stayed in Feb. Great times. Keep up the great work. :goodvibes

Thanks! Isn't it just beautiful! Such a peaceful, wonderful place.

A chill out pool day is sometimes what's needed :thumbsup2

We're hoping for quite a few this summer. But even though the pool here is great, it aint Disney...:sad2:

Another lovely day Jenn - as I said on your dining thread, I'm even more excited about eating at Le Cellier now :)

Max looks as though he was doing really well with his knife - clever boy :thumbsup2

What a shame you couldn't finish your stay at VWL but I'm glad you are going to BWV - we love it :)

Wait til you hear about our BWV room - the Great, the Good, and the Disappointing. (overall positive, I promise!!)

Patiently waiting for another installment seeing as it's the weekend now (assuming you aren't working at the weekend) :)

I miss having your trippy to read every day when I wake up :sad1:

I miss writing it every night :guilty: This last week was insane, but summer is supposedly our slow season (hopefully) so I can get back to my psychotic planning and DISing...;)

And I have promised myself I won't work this weekend. Nuh uh. Not even a little.

Okay- I made it thru the whole TR up to now....can't wait to hear the end!!

I love finding someone who is as into the DIS and guidebooks and psycho planning as me!

Just wish it was as easy for us to get there! DH isn't addicted, but tolerates me anyway! We have 3 kids---2 w/ special needs so going without dh isn't an option.

Keep posting! You are making my whole day!

Thanks!! I am like you - I love meeting people who "get" the whole psycho planning. I can talk to them for hours! DH is my only close friend who gets it...most of the others just smile and tolerate me. ;)

Sunday, May 13, 2007 – Mother’s Day

I’m going to start today with asking for a little indulgence. I have a back story about BWV and what they have always meant to me. (If you’d like to skip this part, scroll down to the break where it says “Back story over):

Once upon a time – back in October 2002 – Goofy and I came down to WDW with our one year old baby DS. We were staying in a three bedroom condo/villa at the Sheraton Vistana, which was just beautiful – if we absolutely couldn’t stay on property sometime I would stay there again in a heartbeat. At home, we lived in a very nice two bedroom apartment, but now that we had DS, we were ready for a real home. I had just been promoted at work to Supervisor and the pay increase was nice and DH had been at his current job for just over a year but we weren’t yet ready to afford a down payment on the kind of house we wanted. I desperately wanted to live in a house again. DH’s parents owned two timeshares and were very generous letting us use one to trade into the Orlando resorts for our vacations. We did this several times with great results. But that wasn’t enough for him. He needed to see Disney Vacation Club. He needed to know what staying on property at Disney was really about.

So one day at Epcot he wandered over to one of the DVC stands where he arranged for a tour. I was less than pleased. I didn’t like the idea of the high pressure timeshare sales pitch at the non Disney timeshares that offer money and tickets and such to attend. I didn’t like the idea of a Disney timeshare that offered you nothing, even more. It was cutting into my vacation time!

Goofy was excited though, so I went. It was at the Boardwalk. We had never seen the BW, BC/YC, or anything other than the monorail resorts. It was an entirely different world for us. I will never forget how we drove up and parked at this beautiful resort. I remember walking through the lobby and down to the Boardwalk. It felt exclusive and elegant. I just knew that everyone staying there had to be incredibly wealthy. And I remember standing on the Boardwalk, watching the resort guests wondering if DH and I would ever be able to provide Max with this kind of vacation. We loved the idea of DVC, but wanted to buy our first home before we bought into our second. And we learned that nope, you did NOT have to be incredibly wealthy to stay at the Boardwalk. But the mystique remained…

Fast forward two and a half years. We had our own Interval timeshare by this point and traded into OKW. We met again with DVC and since many things had grown and changed in our lives, it was the right time to buy. So that answered the question: yes! We WOULD be able to provide Max with this kind of Disney Vacation!

And now? Three years later, we were checking in to the Boardwalk Villas. As members. It was a very significant moment for me. The other DVC’s had appealed to us more over the years so we had never really tried to stay at the BWV. So this was the trip!

Back story over

On our last morning at VLW we got up about 8:00 and put in the movie Invincible while we finished packing and got ready to leave. This time, the Envelope of Doom was waiting for us on the doorknob with no surprises (always a good sign!). We grabbed up all of our stuff and realized we had forgotten the pool noodle (very important for the BWV Scary Clown pool!) so Goofy and Max went down to get car and I went back to get it. I had several bags with me and when I grabbed the noodle, I picked up one of the heavier bags with only one handle. The way I was holding it made my hand hurt with all the weight. Goofy had the life jacket to drop off and I had the DVD’s. I ended up having to stand in the Mercantile waiting to drop off the movies, balancing my bags and suitcase for quite a while. Note to self: next time, use Bell Services or TAKE TWO TRIPS!! Before too long, I had dropped off the movies and was packing our stuff into the car. It was a very hot and humid day and we didn’t know when we’d get into our room, so we had shuffled a few things around to keep all our swimsuits and sun screens and such separate so we could swim after the Mother’s Day Brunch at Epcot.

We got to the Boardwalk and got our parking slip at security with no problem. Goofy dropped me off to start checking in, while he and Max checked our bags. I walked in and was floored to see the longest check in line I had ever been in. Thinking about it, we tend to check in at off hours on off days – and this was around 10:30 on a Sunday morning. I lined up and waited, trying to count the families in front of me. Determining who went with whom was mildly entertaining and I was right only about 70% of the time.

The man in front of me seemed very pleasant. He was chatting with the mom and two kids in front of him (they weren’t together – I missed that one!) and then one of his party walked past and he and she complained about a room location or some such. Goofy and Max came in and sat down to wait for me. Max was intrigued by the ferris wheel:

BCV5-13-07BWV.jpg

After about 15 minutes, it was my turn. Considering how long the line was, I was really impressed it didn’t take longer. The man who was in front of me was working with a CM next to us. Goofy came up when I was checking us in and was more fascinated with how demanding and rude this guest was, than our check in. He wanted a handicap accessible room on the Boardwalk close to an elevator with low to no noise. And he wasn’t being very pleasant about it. There was a one day (ending at 5:00) Ratatouille movie event happening and it was too much noise for his party so he needed to move. He was really giving the CM a hard time and he had to call a manager over. I don’t know what they decided to do, but the last we heard he was demanding a wheel chair and they didn’t have any left for him.

The CM checking us in was very sweet. She gave us our room keys and when the first didn’t have the DDP on them, she redid everything to make sure they would. She even called to check if our room was ready, and when it wasn’t she told me it would be ready no later than noon (it was about 10:45 or so now) and gave me a card to call to see when it was ready. In addition to this, she took down my cell phone number and said she would call me when it was ready. I had no idea they did this…!?!?!? I always though the guest had to call? Regardless, she was very, very nice.

We walked outside to the Boardwalk and I ran into the shop to get some Tylenol for Goofy – he had the beginnings of a headache and I had packed all our meds. We stood in line for the boat to Epcot.

BCV5-13-07BWVII.jpg

I love this sign!!!

There in line, we met the nicest couple. They were really interested in DVC and asked us all kinds of questions. We chatted with them in line and then again on the boat. Once at Epcot, I was given a white carnation for Mother’s Day and we walked to the pavilion for our brunch.

The Mother’s Day Brunch is held in a large building set back a ways between England and Canada. We checked in and used our DDP to pay for it, which was very nice…!

We used our last two VWL TS credits for me, two of our BWV credits for Goofy and tried to use one VWL and one BWV credit for Max. They weren’t able to do the split for Max, but we realized we could still use the VWL credit that night for dinner, so it was all good. We did end up with tons of receipts:

BCV5-13-07MDBI.jpg

Not sure why there were so many???

The waiting area was decorated in the Flower and Garden Theme of Pirates and Princesses. To that end, they had a meet and greet with Jack Sparrow and Pirate Mickey and Princess Minnie. They also had a small buffet set up with coffee, water and Krispy Kremes. I got in line for Jack Sparrow and Goofy got in line for Minnie and Mickey. While I was waiting, Jack had to take a quick break and flounced past us in line, calling out that he would be right back. I mouthed across to Goofy “not quite the same” at the same time the woman behind me said out loud to her mom, “not exactly Johnny Depp”. We caught each other saying basically the same thing and laughed.

However, as you can see from this photo – from a distance he was pretty good:

BCV5-13-07MDBII.jpg

Max got quite a kick meeting Jack Sparrow again – as he was now part of his pirate crew, you may recall. He was especially thrilled when Jack gave him three pieces of pirate “gold”. I took Goofy and Max’s photo with photo with Minnie and Mickey and then joined them. The photo with me didn’t work though…not sure why???

BCV5-13-07MDBIII.jpg

We were able to get some water and then were called to our table. On the way in, I was given a pink carnation and wished a happy Mother’s Day. Goofy and I were offered a glass of champagne and I accepted while he declined and ordered a coke. Max ordered orange juice and I commandeered half of it to make myself a mimosa. The brunch was wonderful and I will review the food on my DR thread. It was a lot of fun. The whole area was set up as a Medieval village:

The main buffet:

Cinderella’s carriage:

BCV5-13-07MDBVII.jpg

They had an omelet station, a Mickey waffle station, carving station, pasta station, and a crepe station. Max and I got waffles and there was a large vase of faux peaches as a decoration. Max asked for one, I told him they weren’t real and he could get fruit at the breakfast section. The CM making the waffles told him he could also have as much of the bowl of berries as he wanted. It was cute – Max asked if he could have two waffles. I said sure and put them on the plate. Max then said, “because I can only get two, right?” The CM then told him, “you can have as many as you want. You can have as much fruit as you want too. In fact, you can have the whole bowl and I’ll go get more!” Max’s eyes were huge! The bowl was a big serving bowl full of chopped strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries – all his favorites! They also had whipped butter, syrup and whipped cream:

BCV5-13-07MDBVIII.jpg

See the huge bowl he offered to send back with us to our table???

BCV5-13-07MDBrunchI.jpg

There was also a table set up for kids to decorate their own cookies:

BCV5-13-07MDBrunchIX.jpg

BCV5-13-07MDBV.jpg

BCV5-13-07MDBrunchX.jpg

Max had a blast doing this!!!

Another fun part of the brunch was the traveling lute player. He was playing the same sounds over and over and over and it was a little monotonous – one of the CM’s making the omelets even muttered something about it while I was up there. But occasionally you would hear him go into a quick Mickey Mouse March or something and it was funny. He was very nice and in character and when he stopped at our table, he showed Max how to play the lute and explained its history when Max asked about it.

Here he is, handing over his pick so Max could try playing:

BCV5-13-07MDBVI.jpg

On our way out, Max stopped again to look at the station making fresh Mickey waffles. He began asking questions, so the CM let him come behind to watch him make the waffles up close and personal. He made Max feel like he helped him make the waffles…very cool!

BCV5-13-07MDBX.jpg

In the middle of brunch, I checked my phone and I had two missed calls and a voice mail. It was the CM from BWV’s who checked us in, telling me our room was number and that it was ready for us.

WOW!!!

Up next – our BWV room, swimming, and a night on the Boardwalk.

Hooray, an update - and a great one at that :thumbsup2 The Mothers Day brunch sounds fabulous, I would love to do that if we were ever there over Mothers Day (just for info, our Mothers Day here in the UK is usually in late March not May though, which is weird :confused3 ). I can't wait to hear how your stay at BWV went - great news that your room was ready so quickly, you really had good luck with your rooms. I love your little back stories too - that one about staying on-site and being able to give Max 'that kind of vacation' was so sweet  I can't wait for our first DVC stay as fully-fledged members :)

Mother's day brunch sounds fantastic, I love how Max helped make the waffles!

I loved your food review so much that I came over to read your trip report. Fantastic! :goodvibes

My family vacations much the same as yours, I think. We are in vacation mode, and we don't always get around to see everything. In fact, the last two years, we didn't make it to the AK. We are DVC members too. Isn't it great, knowing you'll be back another time to catch up on the stuff you don't see?

I so look forward to reading more! :goodvibes

I've already told the hubby that we HAVE to do the Mother's Day Brunch at Epcot someday after reading Pete's review - now I want to even more!!! It sounds wonderful! Max is such a cutie! I can't wait to hear about your Boardwalk room! :cloud9:

I loved your Mother's Day installment. And, I didn't skip over your dream to own DVC! I felt a bit of a connection with you on how you described your feelings there...:flower3:

Thanks to you both! I promised my mom we would take Max on family vacations when I was pregnant with him and it meant so much to me to be able to do it once she was gone and he was growing up.

He felt so special helping - the CM's there were more than fantastic!

Exactly!!!! We just love the "we can do that next time" attitude. And I have to say, knowing that I could make ADR's 10 days or so after we got back made the withdrawal easier. I love always having a trip to plan.

And thank you for the compliments!

Oh Michelle - you totally have to go! I know your family would just love it.

fabulous report!! Love it and want to go back now even more!! Im excited to see how you liked the boardwalk. Ive always wanted to stay there.

im also a crazy planner (more like obsessive!!)!! its makes me happy to see someone else has the same obsessions!!:goodvibes

Very cute family by the way!!

Just read your TR from start to finish! It's excellent - every bit as enthralling as the foodie one! Can't wait for the next installment!!

After brunch, the weather was really hot and humid and I had worn a skirt and dressed up a bit, so we decided to go get settled into our room and then spend some time at the pool. On the way back, Chip and Dale were out and about and Max got to pose with his new favorite characters:

BCV5-13-07maxchipanddale.jpg

He had been watching the “Working for Peanuts” cartoon on the channel at the resorts that had old Disney cartoons playing and he had fallen in love with the chipmunks, so he was thrilled to see them. We took a few photos and continued on. We had left the bag with our swimming stuff in a locker at the International Gateway, so we stopped and picked that up before taking the boat back to BWV.

Our room number was 2070 and the CM’s message had said it was on the same floor as the lobby. We took the elevator up to the lobby from the boardwalk, wondering what a “standard view” was. I assumed we would either have a long hallway to walk down or a view of the parking lot or both. We got to the second floor and stepped off the elevator.

BCV5-13-07BWVVIII.jpg

I love that sign!!!

We turned to the right and walked a few steps to the hallway. We turned right down the hallway and walked past ONE door until we found 2070. Yup, ONE. We had the SECOND room from the elevator!!! Not exactly the long hike we had heard of at the BWV. And it was on the right side of the hallway – facing the pool, not the parking lot…!

We were tickled as we stepped inside. The room was really spacious. I looked for the closets. None…? There was a freestanding armoire and I opened that. There was the vacuum, pack and play, extra blanket and a tiny bit of space for hanging clothes. And then I peeked in the bathroom. Argh. It was a handicap accessible room. I sighed and made peace with the fact that there would be no more baths for me for the last three days of the trip.

For those of you who haven’t had a handicap accessible room, the bathroom has a wheel in shower and no space under the sink. It is also huge. The space around the bed is also wider and there is a more open and spacious feel to the room. What do you give up? Storage space!! We had a few drawers under the TV and a little room to hang up clothes in the armoire. And no bathtub.

Had we gotten a room like this at the Beach Club, we would have requested another. Why? Because I love to take baths to relax and have some “Mom time”. And I hate seeing suitcases on vacation. I always unpack and then put them all together and then away in the closet. And I had no room at all in the bathroom for any of our stuff. For three days? We could easily work around it. Especially with this excellent room location! For 9 nights? Nope.

Goofy asked later when he was chatting with the front desk about the closet space. They weren’t sure how much the standard studios have, but did very kindly offer to store our luggage for us. We had just put it next to the armoire and since we were leaving soon it didn’t matter so we declined, but it was nice to know it was an option.

So I have a question for all you BWV lovers who’ve been in a studio…what kind of storage space/closet do they have? BCV and VWL were both different and for future reference we’d love to know what BWV typically has.

I wasn’t excited about the storage issues, but the location? Oh my GOSH! Max fell in love with the patio – it was enormous! And covered – it felt like a three season room.

Here is the view from our huge patio:

BCV5-13-07BWVV.jpg

And the other side:

BCV5-13-07BWVVI.jpg

We were a hop, skip and jump from the pool, from the lobby, from the Boardwalk…! It was great! And because we were behind Leaping Libations, we had a lot of quiet and privacy as well. Very nice!

I finished unpacking and then realized…um…well…

Let’s go back in time when I forgot something at the Beach Club. It was the park tickets. And what did Joh/Wilma-Bride say??

Now you've only gone and posted an update and ruined my joke - I was gonna say 'What did you forget - your underwear?' :rotfl2:

Can you guess what I realized…? Yup. I forgot my underwear. Almost all of it. And my nightgowns. And…well…all that kind of stuff.…

I had put it all in a drawer at VWL and somehow forgot to pack it. Thank God I had the extra set I had packed in the carryon suitcase so it wasn’t an urgent need, but I had Goofy call VWL to see if it was indeed there and we could go get it. They told him they’d have Mousekeeping check and call me back.

ARGH!!! How does one forget almost every last scrap of undies????? :scared1:

I shrugged it off and we put on our suits and headed out for a lovely afternoon at the pool:

BCV5-13-07BWVIV.jpg

We had a great time and Max loved the scary clown slide. We found a table close to the slide and I was able to hang out there with a book and drink after swimming while the boys enjoyed the pool and the slide. We had decided we didn’t want a big meal, so when we went back in, I cancelled Boma (which drives me crazy right now. I mean, right now at home I would KILL to be at Boma!!!!) and we decided to go to DTD for dinner CS.

I checked my voicemail when we got back and had a message from VWL Mousekeeping saying they found my “clothing” and I could either come get it, or they could send it over.

Goofy called them back and asked if they could send it over. They took our information and agreed.

Because we weren’t going to use the TS credit from VWL that was still on Max’s room key, Steve went up to the front desk to see if there was anything they could do. They were great – they credited us back a TS to the BWV card and deleted the TS from the VWL. Perfect!

We had hoped we could go enjoy the Ratatouie display, but it was closed and we missed it. I was still able to take a few quick photos:

BCV5-13-07rataII.jpg

BCV5-13-07rataI.jpg

BCV5-13-07rata.jpg

We drove to the West Side at DTD after deciding to have dinner at Cooke’s of Dublin. We walked up and down the West Side and got a chance to see some of the places we had ready about, but never seen. We made it over to Pleasure Island and had dinner. You can read my review of Cooke’s on the Dining Report, but it was – in a word – disappointing. This photo wraps up how we all felt:

BCV5-13-07CookesIII.jpg

However, the service was great – very nice and friendly. The wait was loooooong, but everything was done fresh. We didn’t eat much of our dinner but there was one thing that made the trip to Cooke’s worth it:

BCV5-13-07Cookes-1.jpg

This is the ketchup container!!! I was so thrilled to see this – we had the exact same one when I was growing up and I have fond memories of it. We also had a yellow one that was for mustard and I remember thinking it was odd having a yellow tomato. But the ketchup? Loved it! I wish we would have gone in the shop to see if we could buy one…

After dinner, Max and I walked over to the Marketplace to use up our snack credits at Goofy’s, while Goofy moved the car. Max and I had a blast picking things out at Goofy’s and he picked out 8 snacks. Each and every one was good for a credit. We walked outside to meet Goofy, but he wasn’t there. I sat and worried, as he had left his phone at the room to charge and I couldn’t get a hold of him. And Max?

BCV5-13-07DTD-1.jpg

Max scoped out his new treats!

We bought: Mickey Grahams, Mickey suckers, Pooh chocolates, Goofy’s sweet tart candies, Goofy’s sour candies, Mickey chocolate coins, Mickey Pez, and a Goofy powder stick. We still have most of it here at home now – and we plan to bring it out one by one as time goes by before our next trip.

BCV5-14-07snackcreditsw.jpg

We sat and waited and then walked over to Ghirardelli. Goofy had shouted out as we left him, “meet me by Ghirardelli” I shouted back “No – Goofy’s!” I thought we should check Ghirardelli – no luck. Once we got back to Goofy’s, we sat and waited again. Finally, as I was getting close to panicking, DH showed up, full of apologies. Turned out he had been driving around to find a parking spot for the entire time. He knows I freak out sometimes (Mom’s death was an accident and I tend to carry that over sometimes. Fortunately Goofy understand).

We decided not to go to Ghirardelli and instead went back to hit the Boardwalk for a while. Goofy and Max spent some time in the arcade while I puttered around the room, taking a few notes for this report. I then walked out to meet Goofy and Max. I met the boys in the arcade and then we walked out and watched a magic show for a while then decided to hop on a Friendship and take a boat ride. It was darkening outside with calm, cool breezes and low humidity and very nice. We rode the Friendship in the back and enjoyed watching the Epcot and MGM resort area turn into night.

Once back, we walked on the BW for a while and then decided we were hungry. Max and I went into Boardwalk Bakery to order some sandwiches while Goofy tried to get pizza at Spoodles. They didn’t take CS credits there so he met us back at the Bakery. We ordered some sandwiches and treats and then Goofy took it back to the room (short walk!!) while Max and I went to Seashore Sweets to get Max an ice cream cone. The CM’s there were very, very nice. They were patient with Max and offered him stickers when we checked out (one snack credit!) As we left, Max turned to me and said “everyone at the BW is nice, aren’t they Mom?”

They sure were!

Steve and I each ate half of our sandwiches – they were surprisingly good – while Max ate his ice cream and some grapes. Max then played with a Mickey Pez we bought at Goofy’s and we all watched TV until Max fell asleep. Then Steve and I went out on the balcony and chatted for a while about the trip, the resorts, the plans for our next trip November and a little about real life stuff like work – but only very briefly. No talking about work at WDW!

Up next – a day at MGM and Will Jenn Ever Get Her Undies???
