Hello All ~ We are considering spending a few days in Cedar Point this summer. Can anyone recommend good accomodations? We would like to take the ferry from Peele Island to Sandusky....any experience? Thanks! Sandra

Cedar Point has it's own Hotel called The Breakers. I would start there. But if you give me some more details, maybe I can help.
What things do you look for in a hotel? Price range?

Depending on your budget, there are various places to stay in the area. If you visit www.cedarpoint.com, check under accommodations. There are a variety of packages available if you stay on point that include your park tickets. And I believe if you stay on one of their properties, you can get into the park early.

I'm not much help but CP is soooooooooooo much fun! Maybe spend on day at CP and then one day at their water park Soak City. :)

CP is a great place to go, just don't try to compare the quality of the experience with WDW.

We stayed at The Breakers last summer, and it was so nice to be able to just walk in and out of the park. The extra half hour or so in the morning was nice, too. It allowed us to get on the mega rides an extra time or two before the lines started. (We're morning people, though. That won't do you any good if you like to sleep in.) It was also nice for DS (who loves roller coasters more than anything in the world) to be able to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of them. (Our room over -- or under -- looked both Top Thrill Dragster and Millenium Force.)

The food wasn't that great, but it wasn't that bad. There was a TGIFridays and a restaurant that served Italian food. (DS loved it, but DH and I thought it was just so-so.)

Thanks Everyone! I'd like to stay at Breakers, but it's $250 a night! So I'm looking for a nice hotel close to CP for around $100 or less. We'd like a pool at the hotel too. Any suggestions? Thanks! Sandra

Breakers Express is probably your best option. I don't know how much it runs per night during peak season, but it's a lot cheaper than Breakers, plus it offers free shuttles to the park (actually, most hotels in the area do as well).

I can't give you a recommendation on a hotel, though, since we live only an hour away. :)

Comfort Inn Sandusky - Located on Rt 250 (Milan Road) and 5 miles from Cedar Point.

Right next door to this one is a Comfort Inn Suites - Brand new about 2 years ago. Looks really nice on the outside. 419-27-9595

South Shore Inn is Just next to the entrance to the Cedar Point Causeway. 419-626-4436

Good Luck!

You can check them all out on Expedia or another travel website to get the details and to see what they look like before you call them.

We stayed at the Breakers a few years ago on a trip to CP and to tell you the truth, unless they've renovated, I wouldn't stay there again if you paid me by the minute. Our suite was musty, dirty, worn and gross. We switched rooms and the 2nd room was as bad as the first. Staying off-site is a great call!

Another vote for Breakers Express. We've stayed at the Hotel Breakers a couple of times and, although it is convenient to be able to walk back to your room and parking is free, the expense and age of the accommodations does not make up for the convenience. Several years ago we stayed at one of the assorted motels along the road to Cedar Point (although the name escapes me at the moment), but we prefer the Breakers Express.

Breakers Express is owned by Cedar Point, so you get the benefits of an onsite hotel. Check out Cedar Points web page, they pretty much tell you everything you will need to know.

You may also want to try Pointbuzz.com

It's Cedar Points version of the Disboards.

Only 7 days till I get to the Point!!! :cool1:

(I stay at Lighthouse Point, also loaced right at Cedar Point, a little pricy, but you can cook your own food)

We stay at Sandcastle Suites onsite every year. Nothing very fancy, but it is clean, sleeps six and is a quick walk to the parks. They have a restaurant right next door that has a buffet breakfast.

One thing to consider is that Breaker's Express doesn't offer the early entry benefit, unless something has changed this year.

If you stay onsite you also get free parking and you can purchase discounted admission tickets at the front desk.

Have fun! We love the coasters and can't wait to try out Maverick next weekend!

From the Cedar Point website.......

The hotel offers the perfect combination of location and value. And, because Breakers Express is one of the Cedar Point Resorts, guests are entitled to one hour of early entry into the park. This gives you the chance to check out some major rides at Cedar Point before the general public is admitted.

Guests of Breakers Express will be delighted to find guest rooms that feature two queen-sized beds, a spacious bathroom, 25-inch television, handicap accessible rooms, a whimsical heated outdoor pool that features Snoopy, a refreshing outdoor spa, a fun-filled game room and guest laundry facilities.

Cedar Point’s Breakers Express offers among the lowest rates in the area along with an early entry benefit that no other hotel can match. Make your reservations online today or call 419.627.2106.

I've never stayed overnight because we live too close. There are always little cottages for rent and I always thought if I were going to stay overnight, I'd check them out.

I just want to say that a lot of people post here that Cedar Point wasn't like WDW and Uni.

It is an amusement park, not a theme park. Lots of fun! But not on the grand scale of the Orlando parks.

Just didn't want to see you disappointed. :) Have fun!!!!

Your right, Cedar Point is NOTHING like Disney! That's why I vacation at Cedar Point! :rotfl2:

But honestly, it is a very clean and very well run park. They have never had a ride related death, and were talking coasters that go well over 72, 93, and 120 miles per hour! It's clean, the staff is friendly, and a great place to go. But your right, its an AMUSEMENT park, not a THEME park.

Just thought I would post an interesting tidbit about the connection between Disney and Cedar Point. According to the history presentation at Cedar Point, the land that the amusement park occupies was almost sold to a real estate developer in the mid 1950's. That was until a man by the name of Walt Disney opened a theme park in SoCal called Disneyland. The owners of Cedar Point decided NOT to sell off the land to the developer and to make Cedar Point the "Disneyland of Ohio". Well, the fell a bit short of that mark (in my opinion), but it is interesting that Walt Disney saved Cedar Point from the wrecking ball.

Actually the park was sold, but the lease for the Amusement park didn't expire for another three years. So the new owners went out to Disneyland to see how to run a park the new and improved way. They ended up making so much money they decided to keep the park and scrap the idea of homes.

But there is more to that story.

When Walt designed the Magic Kingdom here in Florida he wanted the parking lot separated from the park. The monorail was already on the drawing boards to take guests to the park, but the capacity was not enough. He thought back to a trip he took to Cedar Point, (he visited a lot of parks before designing Disneyland) where back then you had to take a ferry to the park. Walt remembered how he loved riding the George A. Boeckling and watching the park appear in the distance and thus the Magic Kingdom ferries were born.

Or so the story goes.......

Another interisting story....

Disney swapped the Ward Kimball engine (Disney railroad) for the Maude L (Cedar Point railroad) a few years ago. The Ward Kimball sat unused in Sandusky for many years, but this past winter it was shipped to Knott's Berry Farm, one of Cedar Points sister parks.

I like to stay at the South Shore Inn. It's close to the Cedar Point Causeway, and the rates are pretty good for the area. It's family-owned and -run, with the good and bad points of that, but I think it's worth supporting. They have a breakfast buffet at least on weekends during the park season with scrambled eggs, tater tots, sausage, bacon, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, cereal, etc. It's not included in the room rate, but it's a solid meal that will hold you for a few hours of walking in the park.

They also definitely have a pool, though I never use it, as I could be spending that time on rides. :)

For those of you who have not heard the news, Maverick, Cedar Point's newest roller coaster will not be ready for opening day. It will not open till early to mid June. :sad2:
