We can't decide where to camp this summer? Either Cedar Point or Myrtle Beach? Has anyone ever gone to Cedar Point, Ohio? It has an amusement park and water park. We're taking two weeks and hitting the road? We're from New England Area...so we can't really head west. Any suggestions? Thanks!

There are some lengthy threads pertaining to Cedar Point and accomodations on the disboards-my lack of computer knowledge prevents me from linking them.

As a whole-Cedar point is a thrill ride park-if you like coasters-go there. The campground is nice-if there are any available openings to stay there. The park is tremendously busy in July-so plan ahead. Hotel accomodations in that area really leave much to be desired-the bad outweigh the good.

I could not imagine camping at Myrtle in the summer-too hot for me.

There are many other options in the eastern US for camping-the Smokies and Dollywood come to mind-Kings Island in the Cincinnati area is good. The Lake Cumberland area of southern KY is really nice and serene.

Best wishes on your decision.

It's been a few years, but I camped at Cedar Point one year and really enjoyed it. The beach near the campground was nice and if you like roller coasters Cedar Point has some of the best. Wyandot Lake was fun, too, but I don't think I'd plan on spending more than one day there.

We have never camped at Cedar Point. But we do camp at Myrtle Beach, (travel trailor) my idea of camping, ;) and we love it..we stay a Pirateland Campground. It is south of the air force base, out of the hussle and bussle of things. We have stayed here for the past 10 years.Has its own lazy river, and olympic size pool, not to mention great camp sites.
Check it out along with the others. Pirateland, Ocean Lakes, Lakewood.
PM me if I can help you with any questions. :thumbsup2

We're taking a road trip this summer too (DS's choice). We sold our RV, because we couldn't use it often enough. :sad1: That means we'll be driving our van & staying in hotels. :sad2: Anyway, he wants a theme park, road trip, which includes Cedar Point. Sorry, but since we haven't been yet, I'm no help on that one.

On the other hand, we think Myrtle Beach is a great place to camp. My sister's family goes every year in July. They stay in a house at Ocean Lakes, but the campground as a whole is very nice. We have camped with them at Myrtle Beach Travel Park, & enjoyed it very much too. There's lots of nice campgrounds there. You do need to make reservations for the summer ASAP! You could easily spend a month in MB w/o getting bored. We live in FL. If we're looking for a nice beach w/ beautiful water, we go to one of our Gulf Coast beaches, or the Keys. If we're looking for a fun place to go, with lots of things to keep all ages entertained, we go to MB. Have fun planning!!! :)

Cedar Point is lots of fun as long as you like thrill rides! I love it we go there just about every summer if not every other. If you are camping you could also go to Kelly's Island and some of the other places along the lake. There is also lots to see in Cleveland and other parts of Ohio.

Columbus has a great zoo and a science center called COSI. I have never been to Myrtle Beach, but wouldn't want to camp at a beach vaction. Give me a house or condo right on the beach and I am happy.

Good luck just search for campsites in ohio, the ODNR site has lots.

Being a resident of NE Ohio I'm bias. And I've only been to Myrtle Beach once...when I was 10 and I didn't like it. So forgive me when I start boosting the tourism for NE Ohio!

We camp every year at Cedar Point (first week in September our local AAA club offers special discount tickets). Campground is basic, unless you pay for the "premium" sites that include cable. (These are the pull through sites, and are really nice...you even have a type of lawn, not just grass!) Bathrooms are fine, and even nicer when you stay in the premium area, and it's nice to be able to get into the park an hour early to ride the Millenium and the Top Thrill Dragster.
The other campground we've stayed at was Bayshore. It's right off the entrance of the park, has tons of activities for youngin's to do do, a great pool, and boat launch access.
Not much else to to in the direct area though. You do have Put-in-Bay and Kelley's Island for some nice wine and history. Cleveland's not that far off.

If your'e doing two weeks, I might suggest a stop at Geauga Lake (in Aurora)on your way to Cedar Point. They also have their own campground (pay for the pull through site, trust me on that one!) and the admission is extremely cheap for a thrill park and water park in one. Stay here for a few days and you can easily drive to Cleveland, visit the Zoo, the Science Center and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; everything is within a 45 minute drive. Then head on to Cedar Point.

But that's just me!

I have been going to Cedar Point every year for the last 20 years. We love it and it has become a tradition with my girls. My oldest DD was just asking me today if she can bring some friends along this summer.

I have never camped though. We are only 1.5 hours away so we either come home right after or we have been staying at Great Wolf Lodge the last few years.

I love, love, love, love Cedar Point. I've never been to Myrtle Beach but I just had to say that if you like roller coasters- go to Cedar Point. We go for 2 days every summer and we always have a great time. My oldest just turned 8 and she's kind of tall for her age so last year she was able to go on almost all the rides (except the stand up upside down variety). But they have a little bit for everyone. My mom doesn't go on rides but they have the train and the paddlewheel boat for her and she loves to people watch. I'm just going to pass some advice if you do go. Get there a little before it opens and when they drop the rope head directly to the back of the park and work your way towards the front. You're going to have lines no matter what but you can get some of the big ones in the back of the park done early and fast. If it's hot bring your own water. Lot's of water. We were there in August and it was 103 degrees. We saw 2 girls pass out in one of the lines. On most of the rides there are parts when you are just standing there baking uder the sun with no shade and it's bad sometimes. Getting one of those water mister things helps, too. They have vending machines in line but it's like $3 for a bottle of water. One last thing, don't underestimate the mine ride. It looks boring but it's fun. Have a great vacation, either way.

I think I might go crazy if I were camping for two weeks straight in one place, like Cedar Lakes.

Maybe hit all the Ohio theme parks- Kings Island, Cedar Lakes..

Around the Cincy area there are a lot of really neat things to do. An old museum that used to be a train station (Sorry, don't know the name- grew up outside Cincinnati and went all the time but I was little)
Also LOVE the Cincinnati Zoo. Much better than the Columbus, in my opinion.

We've done both....

Camping at Cedar Point is nice, but just as expensive as staying in a hotel. The campground is attached to Cedar Point and has some very nice spots. We also love Cedar Point for all the amazing roller coasters and thrill rides.

Camping in the Myrtle Beach area is one of our favorites. We have a Pop Up camper and stayed at Lakewood campground. We were able to get a spot in the section that is closest to the beach. We could hear the water when it was quiet during the late evening hours. We usually camp there around Labor Day and they have lots of activities.

Overall, if you were wanting to spend two weeks at one place, I would definitly pick Myrtle Beach. They have so much to offer!!

We have been camping in Myrtle Beach before. The following is a link of one of the best places. It is right on the beach, there are scheduled childrens activities such as games and crafts, two or three pools (one is indoor), arcade and you can rent golf carts by the week. If yopu want to go book soon. This place fills up quick. I have onlt been twice but my sister in law and her DH and 3 kids go every year for one or two weeks in the summer. They have been going for the past 6 years or more!
