We are planning a short trip to Cedar Point to visit the amusement park. I have been reading about the hotels in the area and don't really know where to stay. Hotel Breakers is walking distance to the park but some of the reviews have not been that great. Anyone been to Cedar Point recently and have any advice for me? Thanks :sunny:

I'd like to know as well...I am dying to go to Cedar Point

Breakers isn't just walking distance, it is about 2 steps to the park! There are other "onsite" hotels--we stayed last year at the one in the back that looks like little cabins; can't remember the name. There is another one right there in the park besides. The breakers express is NOT walking distance; you have to drive over the causeway to get in. We really enjoyed our hotel; the only issue was we have these huge bugs near Lake Erie in June that were all over the side of the buildings.
You'll love CP! We have passes this year and will probably go next Monday.

I love the Breakers. There is an old part to the hotel and a newer part. We have stayed in both and loved it. Yes, it is very close to the park and is also steps away from the beach.

Breakers is old, yes, but it is ONSITE, right there. There is also Lake Erie right there, very enjoyable.
Worth it to do once to check it out.

We go at least once a year--usually in the spring, but I think this year we'll be going in September. We always stay at the Breakers and we splurge and get a suite with a lakeview balcony. Since we only stay one or two nights we figure we might as well live it up a bit. :teeth:

We really enjoy the hotel--mainly the proximity to the park but the suites are very nice and the balconies are large and screened in so no bug problems. Especially now that dd is a teenager--she brings a friend and they want to go, go, go all day long. DH and I prefer to skip the hot part of the day and hang out in the room. Since it's so close, they can go on their own and just check back with me by cell phone and we meet up for dinner. We don't find the restaurants at the hotel to be that great--there is a small TGIFriday's which is always just packed and a small restaurant where the food is not that great. It's not Disney by any means, but it's still fun.

I hope you enjoy your trip!

I didn't like the TGIF's either! Food is definetly blah. But if you are only staying there a couple of days, it is convienent.

Have fun on the Coasters!!!!

Lighthouse Point is really nice, that's always our #1 choice. We've stayed a few times at the Breakers and really enjoyed it too. We were just at Cedar Point over the weekend and stayed at The Sandcastle Suites for the first time just to try something different. We really liked it and will definitely go back there.

Cedar Point is our favorite amusement park...have fun! :)

Personally, I think the whole on-site thing at CP is way overrated. You don't get much for the astronomical $$$ you pay. We like the Holiday Inn Cedar Point. Its nice and clean, plus it has activites like an indoor mini golf, etc. etc..

Stay away from the old section at Breakers. The new section is great. As others have said, stay away from TGIF's, I mean turn and run in the other direction. My nephew ordered the chicken fingers and fries, and there was hardly any chicken. It was so bad and the service so poor they ended up comping our meal. Oh and it was freezing in there, so cold that even if the food had been good you couldn't enjoy it.

Thanks for the replies. We will probably give Breakers a try, I will definately book the new part though. We are so spoiled with Disney hotels that it is always scary to book something unknown. We just returned from a trip to Scottsdale, AZ and I chose our resort based on info from other DISers and the resort was beautiful.

We always stay at the Breakers and we splurge and get a suite with a lakeview balcony

Do you know if the suites are concierge? We may book concierge just for the convenience of the free breakfast.

Look at Breakers Express too. We have only stayed at CP once since it only takes about 2 hours to drive but we stayed 2 days with some friends a couple years ago and REALLY enjoyed Breakers Express. It's further up the causeway and not walking distance but very nice and a great pool.

Enjoy the coasters! I don't know that we'll make it this year since we are headed to WDW in August so ride a few for me!
