Cedar lined closets?

Our closet "system" collapsed a few weeks ago and we need to replace it. I decided that I wanted the closet lined with aromatic cedar planks. It smells WONDERFUL!!!

Now, though, I'm wondering if there is anything special I need to do to take care of it...what do I clean it with? Do you have to lightly sand it every so often to keep the smell fresh?

Anyone have any tips?

We have a closet in our house like that. It was there when we bought the house over 20 years ago and we've never done a thing to it. I just went and took a sniff and it still smells like cedar! I love that closet. We use it for storage and a coat closet in the winter and in the summer, we put all our wool stuff in there.

I'm hoping to do all the closets with this stuff...it's not quite as pricey as I thought and there are so many benefits!

Sometimes at night when I can't sleep I fantasize about my new closet - where the hanging clothes will be, how I want my shoes displayed, how much room to set aside for purses, etc. Now THAT'S pathetic......

I love cedar closets...they are so good for your clothes,espically if you invest in classic clothes you will wear for years. They really do keep the bugs at bay , and the cedar is fantastic.

I have one and it does still smell like cedar.

Don't store paper item in it. It will fade the ink. But great for clothes.

Wow! Really? I had never heard that! Thanks for letting me know...I wasn't planning on storing any paper stuff in this closet, but if I decide to do more closets, I'll need to keep that in mind!
