Dang, the dollar is going down (currently at .96) and we leave in 2 weeks!

I hope is gets closer to par again before we leave, that may be wishful thinking though. :confused3

Unless oil prices go up, I doubt this will change while the US is doing its treasury bond issue over the next 8 months. Will be interesting to follow.

I had debated paying off our remaining balance when it was up at almost $1.03, but foolishly waited....I've got till November 1st to hope for an improvement!!

yeah I should have transferred money earlier... but only difference of $40 on $1000 right now, so not that much of a biggie.

at least I booked my flights when it was good. (flying out of Syracuse)

I'll try to get to the bank on Monday and hopefully it'll be OK.

One week ago today, I moved $1000 from our Canadian savings account to our USD high interest savings account. It cost me 10 cents to do so. Just 7 days later, I am wishing I transferred more!!!

Our hotel (which includes breakfast every day), flight, travel insurance, Discovery Cove tickets, and Seaworld tickets are all paid in full at the excellent exchange rate. We have over $1000 in US cash on hand. I still have our rental car, Universal tickets (wishing I had not been lazy and already ordered those by now :sad2: ) and our park and fly hotel yet to pay for, but the "big stuff" is covered.

I try to console myself that while the high dollar was good for vacationing, the lower value is better for DH's job (he works for an auto parts manufacturer). So there is a bright side.....that's my story and I'm sticking to it! ;)

Same here! At least for us most of our expenses (resort w/DDP & flight) were paid for when the dollar was above par. We've got some U.S. cash on hand, but will definitely grab some more if it gets closer to par in the next couple weeks (not optimistic about it, though).

I can never understand how we have done so well thru this whole recession thing and the US so bad and yet our dollar is not much higher. I realize we are stuck with commodities and stuff that I don't understand, but it just never makes sense. Have 6 weeks till we go, so hopefully it will go back up.

Uugh.... we leave a week from Thursday.... not much hope for us :confused3

What you need to look at right now is the situation in Greece and the EU. Rumours of any possible default send the Canadian dollar down in value compared to the U.S. dollar.
We purchase $100 of U.S. cash each month for our vacation fund, and pre-pay everything we possibly can in Canadian dollars, which makes watching the exchange rate a lot less nerve-wracking. My best friend called her TA and had the TA pay the balance of her trip off early to take advantage of the stronger Canadian dollar in August.

It seems that the dollar recovered a little yesterday and today, now I guess the question is buy USD now, or wait hoping it recovers a little more?

Sure wish I had of been more on the ball with getting USD back when we ere above par!

Yes, it's at .98 right now!

Thankfully we paid for our accommodations, tickets and flight ahead of time when the dollar was par or better.

But we still have to pay for all food, souvenirs and the car rental.

With our biggest trading partner being the US, our dollar should be around the $0.82 mark. The major reasons why it's so high is fear over the US dollar and the high price of oil (Alberta alone is America's largest supplier of foreign oil). As fear rises about the Euro, the US dollar goes up and ours goes down closer to where it should be.

I LOVE when we're over the US dollar...but I'm not gonna get too upset about anything over 92 cents to the dollar.

I've travelled alot and remember many trips when I was only getting like 69 cents to the american dollar.
