During this entire vaccination time, people were doing even worse by incorrectly saying J&J was inferior to Pfizer/Moderna because of the trial result numbers. Clearly, majority of people still do not understand, even after repeated attempts to assuage them, that the trials occurred at different times with different vulnerable population pools.
Here, this study actually makes a level comparison between two major vaccines used in Europe (although, it’s possible it’s a relevant comparison for those in the US given how close J&J and AZ vaccines are). Regardless of sample size, the study’s results are informing. Both one dose of Pfizer and AztraZeneca give equally good neutralizing antibody response. But, the AztraZeneca for some reason gives a clearly better T cell response, which would help in various ways such as shortening duration of any future symptomatic infection and producing antibodies in response.
People have the right to facts and findings. What could be beneficial for future vaccine research is a follow-up to this as to why there is this statistical difference.
The study results here isn’t like the misinterpretation as with the Pfizer/Moderna versus J&J many people are peddling. Misinformation about J&J possibly having less efficacy is what is damning as you say.
