CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

It's actually both and I'm really not trying to stir it up.

“The three-week preview we that were given by the Biden Administration: 380,300 next week, the week after and the week after. So it’s consistent,” said the governor. “By the way, they update that allocation every week, so those numbers are subject to change.”(yes the underlined is important but the statement was made).

A tweet did say "NEW: CA is expecting 380,000 doses of the new Johnson & Johnson vaccine as early as next week. We expect that number to increase as supply becomes more available."

Both from 2/26
Thank you for the clarification. Between the "subject to change" and the "as early as next week" and the fact that the vaccine has literally been approved for less than one week...okay, forget it, I'm done.

Maybe your state should schedule both doses at the same time.

Here in Kentucky, they're scheduling both doses together. You can't schedule a first dose without scheduling a second dose. I'm on a couple of vaccine Facebook groups, and I hear complaint from those saying first doses are available, but they can't schedule because the second doses aren't.
We had this problem here in NH when the vaccine first came out. You could schedule for the first but there would be nothing open to schedule your second in the correct time frame. Fortunately they caught this early enough and began handing out come back apts. when you got the first. Then the hospital reached out to everyone who got the shots before the new plan was implemented and gave each of us an appropriate date to come back. I have to say they did a wonderful job getting this straightened out pretty quickly, even though we were experiencing frustration at first. Then, just last week, they got a unexpected shipment and they were able to reach out to over a 1000 people, who had not been scheduled, and they let them know they could come and get their shot on Sunday. Thank you to everyone, who put in the time and effort to coordinate and reach out! Great job!

It would only be a small slice IMO but it didn't help. A lot of the missed vaccinations were just put off to the week after if the administrator cancelled them. But they are talking about over time. The main discussion was poverty level observation with the rates of missed doses being higher there. Not knowing you even needed 2 doses is an information issue, not being able to take off work for a 2nd dose, not having the means as easily to get to your 2nd dose, etc And just thinking of another thing let's be real how many people on this thread kept saying "just get it into arms" and had little concerns over people getting the 2nd dose. If that's the message someone heard elsewhere especially efficacy rates for just 1 dose they may choose not to get the 2nd dose irrespective of anything else. I also have thought back to what I've seen several posters over various threads discuss regarding side effects of the 1st dose and not wanting to go back to the 2nd dose.

FWIW MO does get cold temps like that, they've had it before, polar vortex from a couple years ago. The issue was the length of time it went on and consecutively.
This definitely is an issue and something that should be addressed. I guess the only good is that even 1 shot will offer some protection but we should be doing more to try to get people to come back for the second shot. If they revoke consent that is a different situation but if they just didn't know or had another barrier then we should be educating and helping those people.

So my state had announced when J&J was approved and we knew how many doses we would get that we wouldn't get any new ones til March 23rd due to production issues (I mentioned this already on this thread). I'm reading today that for MO they are being told the next shipment for theirs won't be until March 29th. I wonder if KS's second shipment will be delayed until March 29th as well.

CA was promised 380,000 J&J doses TO BE DELIVERED THIS WEEK. Instead, they got 21,000 doses. Someone messed up. End of story.

So KS got 23,400 from J&J, MO got 50,000. CA got 21,000 (which is interesting they got less) BUT both KS and MO are told they won't get anymore of J&J until the 23rd or 29th (we'll see if KS's shipment is delayed to the 29th date as well). Wonder if CA's shipment will be delayed or reduced because 320,000 to them but nothing to other states in the interim means to me something is up (not a knock against CA I just don't know what's up ya know). Sometimes it's just like :confused: on some of this stuff.

I respect your opinions and your information :)

But wouldn't the best response to smoothing things over (if that's what you intend that is) to leave out the part of your comment I underlined? That seems more poking the bear here and the other posters weren't wrong though you weren't either at least on some parts. I'm sorry I've probably already said too much already and please don't take offense. I'll just leave it alone so I don't poke the bear either :flower1:

I live in a rural area and got signed up yesterday for my first shot. The appointment is for April 6th so my area is about a month out on appointments. I don't know if that is normal for other areas but that is where I'm at now. That was through the county health department so I don't know if I'd get it faster at another location or not.

TN is supposed to get 54000 this week though they haven’t arrived..we were also told that there would not be another shipment until the 23rd as well

It was posted here!!! They said "as soon as next week". Scroll back a few pages and you'll see it.
And I’m saying there are more than tweets that we saw/listened to.

But you have yet to answer why you’re so invested in this. Is it to just say you were right?

I want to apologize to anyone here I've offended. I really do personally like all of you and all the conversation.
Not offended, but confused. Accepted either way.:flower3:

We all want the same thing. We all want Biden to be right with the end of May timeline. Some of us just would just like to see our states rise to the occasion to give us the confidence that we’ll get there. And I hope you’re right, that in a few weeks this conversation will seem like a distant memory because the doses are pouring in!

I don't think anyone was offended either. People just want fairness in the discussions that occur here.

If we think back to what our lives were like a year ago none of us knew what was going to happen. If we think back to what our lives were like over the summer none of us knew what was going to happen. If we think back to what our lives were like in the fall when the vaccine discussion suddenly became very imminent instead of some farther off ideal none of us knew what was going to happen. Predictions were made, thoughts known but I don't think any of those predictions panned out exactly as they were made. That shouldn't be seen as a problem to even say because again none of us knew.

And lastly IMO being optimistic and being skeptical don't have to be total opposing sides of the coin, I would argue they often go hand in hand without being too far on one side (too optimistic) or the other (too skeptical). It's up to each of us whether we view something opposing our opinions as being total opposite (in this case too optimistic or too skeptical or as also been said too negative) or just merely a different perspective (and yes I count myself in that because I'm guilty of it as well).

This is kind of awesome: Disney World has had several incidents in which guests have harassed cast members over the Covid policies...and now Disney is prosecuting them. GOOD.

That is good because I would imagine that Florida will end their mask mandate before Disney is comfortable doing that. It will be difficult on smaller businesses to enforce their own private mask mandates on property. I imagine we'll see a lot of this happening in Texas and the other state that is lifting the mandate.... beginning next week.

Disney won't put up with any of that nonsense. And it's good that they are signaling that now.

That is good. there are lots of stories from my local area of employees being harassed. My local bakery had a woman break their front door after she was told she had to wear a mask in the store. Disney has the power and should flex their muscles

There is no statewide mask mandate in Florida right now. There may be individual county mandates, but they cannot fine or access penalties for non compliance.

I should add private companies, such as Disney or Target, can require their customers to be masked or refuse service.

Orange County, I believe, still has a mask mandate.

To follow up, I am not saying ignore the Science. Yes, let us all listen-that is why I received the shot. It is time to stop the shut downs in ALL states. I saw a report that estimated some 160,000 deaths in last year from suicides, alcoholism, and other isolation due to COVID shut downs. We need to get our lives back. No more social shaming because you wish to visit relatives. No more social shaming because we do not wear a mask. For those who feel the need to wear a mask, that is their prerogative, but lets stop shaming those who no longer want to. The Science tells me vaccines are coming out faster than a lot thought they would and the number of Covid cases are reducing drastically (even more drastic is the drop of death rates due to Covid).

You had me until you said to end masking. That's the problem with how this whole discussion has gone - everyone, or at least those who are the most vocal about their opinions, wants to have it both ways. Either they want everything open but also never to have to wear a mask or keep a respectful distance from others or they want everyone masked but still think all/most things should remain closed. There's a sane middle ground, but it is unpopular with both sides - the cautious think it is too risky and the less-cautious resent any limitations whatsoever - so our leaders are reactively veering wildly all over the place rather than embracing any sort of coherent approach.

I have also felt the need to apologize from time to time, people really do not want to hear the facts when they do not agree with their pre determined opinions. Like the posters who are complaining that they are not getting their share of JnJ doses, but the real question should be how many COMBINED doses of JnJ, Pfizer, and the other vaccine (I forget the name). Like you pointed out 2.1 doses yesterday, by the end of the month it will be double that. Some people need to argue just for the sake of arguing.
