CDC - looking good for mask-free cruises - or mostly!

Except I don’t think that will be allowed in Florida. Segregation is just a bad idea in general. It’s also no ones business if you’ve been vaccinated or not. I mean why don’t we just put a scarlet letter on all the unvaccinated. It’s all ridiculous. Millions have had Covid and have better immunity than the vaccine and many of these people have chosen not get vaccinated.

Just test people for Covid before they board. The numbers will continue to decline as we reach some kind of heard immunity and hopefully masks and vaccines won’t be an issue.
I agree with what you said with the exception of continuing to test vaccinated people upon boarding. Testing is invasive (even the mildest versions), and I don't want myself or my loved ones subjected to that on vacation. We're vaccinated, so we shouldn't have to endure a test. That can fairly be something that only unvaccinated people have to do. It isn't a scarlet letter, though, as it doesn't follow you around onboard. I agree that marking people based on vaccination status is unpleasant and I certainly would not want to wear a wristband throughout my cruise, the way you often do at a water park. I hate wearing wristbands.

I guess I can always keep wearing my mask and just be "that weirdo."
I don't think people are going to regard anyone wearing a mask as a weirdo after this pandemic. That's one good thing about it- people have seen how useful they can be in stopping the spread of illness. It might become fairly common for people with colds to choose to wear them, like it is common in parts of Asia. As an elementary schoolteacher, I could see myself choosing to wear one in class during flu season from now on. I hate catching my students' illnesses.

My understanding is that people who had covid only have better immunity (then people who have received two shots) if they get at least the first shot of the vaccine.

Oh and... If I had the choice I'd prefer to present proof of vaccine and not having to test before boarding. The covid testing complicates everything when you are travelling from another country before boarding a ship.

Actually yes, people should be masked if they choose not to vaccinate. That’s exactly what the CDC says. Those people who are not vaccinated should continue wearing masks to prevent transmission.

These headlines really needs to start being written with the important information first: IF YOU ARE VACCINATED, you don’t need to wear a mask in most situations. Instead they keep writing it as: YOU DON’T NEED TO WEAR A MASK, if you are vaccinated.
It's not going to be policed you know that. I have a feeling most of the people still wearing masks are the people that are vaccinated.

So non vaccinated people can't go indoors without a mask or they are putting themselves at risk. What's next not allowing overweight people desserts without a doctors note? Should we ask them if it's safe for them to eat cake? Obesity kills more than covid. Point is, now that vaccines are available to anyone in a high risk group, we should mind our own business.

The rapid tests are very simple and not uncomfortable at all. To enter many countries you still need a PCR test regardless of vaccine status.

In daily life, of course not. Though I think cruises are still up in the air based on transportation regulations and international laws. These may still be examples of stricter mask mandates and/or vaccination checks.

I agree with this. The people who were anti-mask are certainly not going to start following CDC guidance now, and the people who have been following guidance are worried about those numbers.

You make some good points and I see your point of view. I was trying to think of a way so those not vaccinated could cruise with the CDC’s rules for those vaccinated vs not vaccinated having to wear masks. Feeling for the Cast Members if they have to figure out who should be masked and who are allowed not to be.

Have to admit I never heard of Godwin's law and had to look it up. Thanks for the education, always learning something new. :thumbsup2
The cast members won't be required to figure that out. I just hope we hear something from the cruise lines soon. Then we can all stop arguing about what may or may not happen. :)

I think the vaccination requirements will vary from state to state and cruise line to cruise line. There is a large percentage of the population that is fed up with CDC, but that is a whole nether subject.

Whatever happened to my body, my choice, US out of my uterus. It’s like suddenly adults can’t make their own decisions, parents can’t make decisions for their kids, only the government can.

I don’t even understand why you guys are posting in the cruising section, it’s like you want to find 800 ways to ruin everyone’s cruise or make it as miserable as possible.

Here’s the reality, money talks, and it’s profits over your feelings. DCL will drop masks for everyone and in every situation. You will be told that it’s to be expected that anyone unmasked is vaccinated, and there will be a HUGE PR push by the government that vaccinated people don’t need to worry about unvaccinated people, it’s safe to be around them, and suddenly spread from unvaccinated is low.

Like I said, I don't want to endure any test at all. If you're vaccinated, it is superfluous, and they're often inaccurate. I don't want the stress of a false positive possibly ruining our trip.
You can still test positive if you're vaccinated. If you plan on traveling internationally this Summer you'll most likely need a negative covid test.

I agree with this I can't see cruise lines alienating 40% of the population and being profitable. People are already skittish about cruising and the people that are most afraid are the people that are the most pro-mask and pro-vaccine. They need everyone masked up on a cruise so they feel comfortable, but that is not going to sell staterooms.

Acknowledging that cruises very well might have different regulations than everyday life because they are mass transportation (excluded from the most recent updates) and subject to international law ruins your cruise? How on earth do you respond when the ship actually can’t dock at a port or the seas are particularly rough? No one on this forum has any say in what various governments will require. And everyone on this forum has the freedom to say that whatever regulations are eventually put in place do not appeal to them. This and most other threads are pure speculation about what MIGHT be.

It’s not March 2020, if there’s an outbreak, the ship can dock, we know how to handle it.

It’s just a floating hotel/resort.

Obesity is not contagious.

This isn't sudden and mandating vaccines is good for society as a whole. No one even needs a smallpox vaccine anymore because was eradicated and we are getting very close to eradicating polio in the world. Measles outbreaks have increased in the US in last 20 years due to anti-vaccination stances.

Only about 4% of the US population goes on cruises every year. Add to that the fact that ships will likely sail with reduced capacity for the foreseeable future, and I don't see alienating people as a problem with filling ships to "capacity", especially in the very near future (next few months)

I think we will see people's skittishness really go down over the next 3-4 months. For me, my only concern sailing with unvaccinated people is the fact that my youngest is not yet old enough to get it. Once they lower the age of vaccines to 5+ (as early as late summer/early fall of this year), then I won't really care who else on the ship is or is not vaccinated because my family is fully protected. I think more and more people will slowly come to that kind of realization once they adjust back to regular life as a vaccinated person. My gut tells me by Oct/Nov, the mask mandates will all pull back and sailing will begin to return to normalcy with masks "suggested" but not required.

Only time will tell...in the meantime, we wait patiently (or not-so patiently. Man, I miss cruising!)

Mandating an experimental vaccine isn’t good for society. President Biden hasn’t even said he’s a proponent of mandating these vaccines. I think it’s insane for parents to subject their children to these vaccines because no one knows the long term effects.

But you know what, I respect the choice parents make, because we do what we think is best. I don’t yell at them I don’t scream at them, they made it, they can do what they want with their child.

Respect the choices people make. If all the neanderthals die off, that’s even better for you.
