10 years ago, my family took a cruise around the British Isles. We learned to our dismay that VCR's were formatted differently there than here. Now I want to send a CD to someone in England. Are CD's the same, here and there?

Thank you,

Hi Bobbi
CD's are the same but UK/US TV formats are different (NTSC/PAL) this impacts VCR's, DVD's and video games consoles.
Your CD should be fine:thumbsup2

Regards.

Thank you very much! Whew, I have already bought it and all of a sudden I remember the wild goose chase we went on!

Bobbi:)

Most modern TVs and DVD players in the UK can handle US NTSC format.

But if it's a purchased US movie DVD then it will be a region 1, so we would need a multiregion DVD player to view over here.

If it's a home produced DVD or a VHS to CD/DVD copy then it should be OK

Our problem was that some wanted to see Braveheart. We were in Orkney and bought it. Got to the ship, and it didn't work, but the crew of the Pacific Princess did find a machine to view it on. I think it was in one of the lounges and DH and the others had to view it in the middle of the night!

I'm glad the CD will work. I thought about this present, and think it's just right!

Yes the CD will be fine, back in the early 90's bought many CD's in the US and all were fine here.

BTW welcome to the UK boards :)

Claire ;)
