We are considering a resale purchase at CCV specifically for the 11 month window in Dec. We usually travel the first week of Dec. While I like the WL, it is usually not our first choice outside of the Christmas holidays.

So, just how difficult is it to get a CC studio in Dec. at the 11 month window? I am reading people walk these for months....

Thank you!

11 months exactly you can probably do it, if you forget and try 8 9 10 months ..you are likely out of luck.

I own ccv and haven't gotten that week in a few years because since moving to FL I always forget to book at the exact 11 months window

Early December is prime DVC travel time. Pair that with CCV which is in high demand during the Christmas season because it’s decked out in decorations with the most in demand room type. Yeah, it’s going to be difficult and probably should be walked. If you’re okay with getting the studio in December sometimes I think it’d be worthwhile still but if you feel like you only will be happy getting a studio consistently it may be worth considering elsewhere.

That week in a studio at CCV is probably the hardest week of the year to get. I've booked it two years in a row, but walked to be safe.

I would not get a Dec Use Year if you want first week in Dec at Copper - it will eliminate your ability to walk the res. Go for Aug/Sept/Oct.

I don't think you need to walk for months....just try to get it a week or two early and you'll have plenty of tries to grab a reservation. If you wait until exactly 11 months and for some reason you miss out, you're out of luck.

Definitely tough and definitely need to walk it if you want to be sure you have it…and even then, it may be tough.

Thank you all for your replies.

WOW! You just saved us from a big mistake! I would have to borrow, wouldn't I? And then I couldn't move them into the next UY! This never crossed my mind because I thought as long as the points were there, I could use them! But not it this case!! Really - you just saved us from making a $XX,XXX mistake!

Thank you!

Look at it this way. Yes, booking a studio the first week in Dec can be tough without walking. But if you don't own there the chance of you getting one is very, very slim unless you get really lucky.

I thought about CCV when it was in active sales but decided against it because studio availability in the Fall is difficult at 11 months and I didn't want to lay down all that money for limited options. I bought Riviera instead. I will take the restrictions vs not getting into the resort I own.

This is one of the reasons we decided to sell our CCV contract, plus the 1bd didn't sleep 5.

Plus, even waitlisting CCV is a hot mess for studios due to the split of booking categories.

This is a really stupid question but I am still kind of figuring out the whole process... what does it mean to "walk" a reservation?

I always book the first week of December and I have not used "walking" to do so. However, I usually have to book a one bedroom right at the 11 month mark, and i waitlist a studio. Once the "walkers" walk past me, my waitlist for the studio comes through. 3 years in a row now we have done that.

Walking is essentially when you book a room in advance and then continue to modify the dates until you get to the date you want.

Take today for example, it's currently 4/27/23 meaning I can book as far out as 3/27/24 for a stay that starts on the 27th of March and ends on 4/3/24. Say if I wanted to guarantee a December stay at CCV in a studio and I had a February use year. I can book a studio right now and then keep modifying the dates every couple days allllllll the way until it's currently January 1st 2024 at which point the 11 month window would be open for a visit to stay from 12/1 to 12/8.

This is obviously an extreme example but it can be done nonetheless and does happen especially with studios at Crescent Lake resorts during Food and Wine season and also special holidays say like theme park view studio at Bay Lake Tower on July 4th/NYE. This also happens for CCV during early December. Usually people only walk a few months though.

In general, it's really unnecessary and most would say rude to people who actually need rooms at specific times because it prevents them from booking a reservation they may actually need which is why it's frowned upon.

Basically you book a time prior to when you want to actually go, and then every day you add a day to the end of the trip, and take off the first day of the trip until you have the original date range you wanted. For example, I want December 1-5, but I book November 1-5 at the 11 month mark. then every day for the next month I modify the reservation one day forward until I end up at December 1-5.

This was my first December booking and I didn't have any issues at exactly the 11 month window for the first week of December. Later I had to change my plans to the third week and had to check for a couple days (it was around 10 months away) but was able to find the days I wanted open.

Ohhhhh! Ok that makes sense!

You may be able to buy a Direct contract with a Guaranteed week . It seems like DVC is still selling CCV.
