I made my excursion reservations this morning for our
Oct 9 western cruise. My son will be 10 days short of
being 8 when we are on Castaway Cay on Oct 15. They would
not let me reserve a banana boat ride for him, citing
insurance/vendor restrictions that require riders to
be at least 8 years old. Has anyone been in this
situation? And have you managed to get your child on
this ride while there? I should say that my son is a
very good swimmer for his age. I know that technically
the rules are 8 years old minimum, but for 10 days it
seems awfully close enough. We would be on the ride
with him (as well as our 9 year old daughter).

thanks.

Rules are rules, and if Disney is Disney, they're not going to let your son use the banana boat. It's unfortunate, but if you give an inch, some people want a mile, and any business owner can attest to that.

Instead of making it a negative, find something else and make that fun :)
And then you can tell your son, Next time we're here...... and that makes it oh so more inviting. I hope you have fun :)

We were in the same position in May 2002 although my 7yo wouldn't be turning 8 until Sept. I booked the Banana Boat for my dh and two older sons. I told youngest ds I wouldn't go without him and we would videotape the others. Well, oldest ds didn't show up at 1:00. I told CM that he apparently was having too much fun at the teen beach and wouldn't be coming. She then said, pointing to youngest ds, "Why don't you let him go instead"? I explained that he was only 7 and that when I tried to book a spot for him that DCL wouldn't let me because of insurance, etc. She said "Well, he certainly is big enough. I don't think it will be a problem. He can go." Needless to say, ds was thrilled because he got to go after all. Why not, book the Banana Boat for the three of you and as soon as you get to CC, go talk to CMs. Possibly your ds will get to go after all. Sending pixie dust your way. :)
