CC and clean up

We sailed Feb. of 2000 after Floyd........I was told that there were 12-15 foot surges that COMPLETELY covered CC. The dock was still messed up but the island was beautiful as always.......We are scheduled for 2 stops Thanksgiving week.....

so how about we have a beach day with a bbq or go back on board for the loo and food !

You don't have kids, do you? I know with mine they wait until the LAST possible moment to tell me they have to go to the bathroom that way they don't have to miss play time. Getting them off the beach, onto a tram, walking back to the ship and getting onboard would be disaster for us!

I'm not going back to CC until they have functional bathrooms! :)

JMHO, of course!

Just wanted to let you all know that the resort I work for in Grand Bahama will be closed until October 1st at the earliest. This is a direct result from damage sustained during Hurricane Frances.

Sorry to go off-topic, but which resort is this? We had a fabulous time on Grand Bahama last January -- so much so that we considered buying a place there! It saddens me to hear that the island was hit so hard, and I'm sorry that your employer has so much damage.

Yep i do have kids, and still would be happy to do this, i'm sure they could set up portaloos pretty easily or put everything nearer to the ship for a while. If not hey we've peed in bushes before (camping) so wouldn't be a disaster for us. LOL

Anyway until we know exactly how CC faired then it's all speculation , someone else mentioned they could use nassau for a stop and we could head off to atlantis, i'd be happy to do that too, in fact i'll be happy to just be on the cruise after all the poor people who had to cancel , reschedule etc.

Heres to happy and safe sailings for us all.

I just think that if CC was inundated and ther is major structural damage, it will take longer than one month to recover as someone else posted.

Also, I forgot to add to my "list of things that need to be done before CC receives passengers list" that since food is served on CC, health authorities will also need to inspect repairs and give approval before CC is back to normal.

While I would agree with you on the permits, health inspections, etc. if in the U.S., do you really think that these will be required for an island in the Bahamas that Disney owns? Since the Bahamas likes tourism, I would think that they would let Disney repair / replace first, and expedite any permits after the fact.

We are leaving on the Magic on Sat. 9/11. Yes I know about Ivan but if I can get on the ship I don't care were I go:cool: Any way my friend that is also going with us is a travel agent and she just spoke to DCL and they read her an e-mail from the president of DCL and he said they have sent the Wonder to CC as of today, full of crew to start making repairs. I had also heard that damages were not as extensive as they had thought in the Bahamas. I'm not expecting to go to CC on my cruise (I would be thrilled if I did:teeth: ) but I would think that in a month you would be able to go. Good Luck! And wish me luck missing Ivan!

off topic to drclaws:

your cats are cuties:) may I ask breeds?

Ivan looks like it is trending more and more to a western track..... Keep your fingers crossed....

Where did the Wonder and Magic go during Floyd when CC was being rebuilt???

I am sailing on the 10/9 and was looking forward to going to CC. Those dreams are all but shattered. I hope that if cleanup is going to take much longer than a few weeks Disney will setup alternative ports and let us know before sailing!!!!

Hi Jfs9900 I the terrible will NOT be affecting us, if i say it out loud it may come true :=)

I pray that poor floridians don't have to go through another hurricane and that I goes out to sea and stays there.

Also hope that CC is okay, I just read that DCL has sent the wonder there with a full crew to assess and start fixing up if at all possible. so if things get going straight away just maybe we'll get there by 15th Oct that gives 5 and a bit weeks and i understand it took 4 to fix after Floyd ?

I've sent a non urgent e mail to dcl to ask to be updated on where we would possibly go if cc still out of action and i'll let you know in a few days when i get a reply.

See you in october

I'm sorry, but peeing in the bushes while camping it TOTALLY different than peeing in the bushes on Castaway Cay!

Hi folks, we just got home after the 5 night Wonder "Cruise to who knows where", but we did make it to Cozumel for one day.

After the Wonder was fully unloaded today, they were loading with CC and Disney crew to head to CC for clean up; noone knew what the damage was, they will be the first to make it out there.

The Magic was in Port Canaveral with us, they were loading with passengers, but I don't know what cruise they were making up, the 7 day or the missed 4 day Wonder.

Well, typically, peeing in the bushes at camping is in a very private, secluded place where there is no chance anyone can see. Besides, thousands of ppl aren't doing it. If we advocate that all the kids pee in the bushes at CC, how long until it's stinky there?

But by all means, if you all want to send your kids into the bushes at CC to pee, go ahead. I won't stop you. Me, on the other hand, I prefer to have my kids use toilets.

I figured everyone would do just like the kids do even when there are toilets, just pee while you're swimming in the ocean :)

However, when it comes to #2, I'm sure Disney would require the same "camping" rules as they have for places like the Grand Cannyon... "You brought it in, you pack it out".

WOW never realised a LOL comment would arouse such interest,
my original comment was this

"i'm sure they could set up portaloos pretty easily or put everything nearer to the ship for a while. If not hey we've peed in bushes before (camping) so wouldn't be a disaster for us. LOL"

I'm not advocating that all the kids pee in the bushes at CC it was just a lighthearted comment about the current situation and a poster who commented not having bathrooms would be a disaster, right now who even knows if theres an island to go to never mind worry about toilets on.
