Just a few newbie questions about the Castaway Cay 5K. We sign up online or once we get on the boat? What time is it at and what time do they start letting people off the boat? If my husband and I both sign up do the kids go to camp on the boat or on CC? Can we stay on the island after the 5K or do we have to go back on board, this question is moot if we have the kids in camp on the boat. Are there lockers for our stuff on CC while we do the 5K?

Thanks!

The port arrival time shown on your online booking will show the disembarkation time.

Normally you meet in a lounge around 8.15am

At this time you can not sign up online before your cruise departure, but when onboard the ship check your Daily Navigator for the announcement. As a rule, you register for this experience at the Port Adventures desk The crew members will print you a voucher for each person to hand in at registration. They will also provide you with the meeting time and place to meet on the morning of the run.

Take a towel, they hand out water and you can get it at various locations on the route.

No lockers, but keep your Cruise card and ID or if a family member isn't running get them to keep your stuff.

The 5K people are usually the first ones allowed to debark that day. Kid's club (except the nursery) is relocated to the island for the day. No lockers, but I have read they have big bins that you can place stuff in (not secured).

You can sign up once on board anytime, (often including the morning of). Your navigators will tell you where to do it.
The CC5K group meets in one of the lounges about an hour before disembarking for race number pick up and a description of the course.
Your kids get off the boat with you and can be checked into scuttles cove. All childrens services (other than nursery) will move to the island on CC day.
You do not have to return to the ship after the race. By the time the race ends people will already be on the island.
There are no lockers, but there is a large wooden chest/box that you may place belongings in. There is no one to verify that you are indeed taking what belongs to you or not rummaging through other peoples things, so if you have something particularly valuable you may want to leave it on the ship. But I felt comfortable leaving my stuff there.

Left our stuff in the bin- never had a problem. Sign up at Port adventures- very easy. As others mentioned you meet in a lounge to pick up your bib number and the CM's outline the race route. Leave the ship about ~8:30-8:45am and walk to the starting line which is by the bike rentals. They make a pause to drop off children at Scuttles Cove and for a quick restroom stop. Run the race, pick up your medal, purchase any race swag and you are on your way. We do not return back to the ship. Too time consuming. We always want to squeeze every second we can be on the island.

Absolutes or guesses might just cause stress. The info for your sailing will be in the Navigator on your sailing.

We've met a variety of times. We've gotten off the ship a variety of times. I have NEVER been involved in a CC5K that got off the ship first (apart from the paid Challenge that went along with January Marathon weekend), and I've done the island 5K 4 times. 5? Ack. Anyway, it's never happened on MY sailings.

Kids go to Scuttle's Cove on the island; peel away from the pack to drop them off then meet back up.

Big unlocked bin for items.

I have always had at least DH not running/walking it, so he takes the bulk of my stuff if I'm not going back to the ship. But I like going back to the ship. I don't want to rinse off in the ocean, I want to properly shower than put sunscreen back on, and I don't like doing this in a public bathroom while still sweating.

But all the info for your sailing will be in the Navigator for your sailing! :)

This has been my experience as well!

I'm thinking through this for my next cruise, too. If we run, and then want to head back to the ship to shower/pack a bag/sunblock, etc - is there still chair availability when we get back to CC? Assuming sold out Fantasy cruise? I'd love for DH and I to both do this, but wondering if he should hit the beach with the kids and I do it solo? or with older DD?

We found plenty of loungers available when we did our cruises last year. And we didn't leave the ship until just before lunch.

A sold out Fantasy would be a huge number of guests, and depending on the weather CC could be quite full. There, of course, won't be plenty of chairs available, but we've always found something on the 8 or so stops we've had there from the larger ships. Location might not be first class, hammocks in our experience were taken, but since CC is a world class private island, with a huge infrastructure of things to see and do there, my view is all locations are good. You'll find something, and you'll have a blast.

We walked the 5K on our cruise in March. We were slightly delayed getting off so that other passengers were disembarking at the same time, and for some reason the 5K was delayed even further before we began. Some people brought backpacks and left them in the bins. We decided to return to the ship, change clothes and grab our beach stuff before going back ashore, and we were not the only ones who did this. We found plenty of loungers on all the beaches and still had plenty of time to enjoy CC.

Thanks everyone. I'm not really picky on where my lounger is - as long as I have a spot to sit for a bit when I'm not playing in the water :)

i never get off the ship till 10:30ish and then meet up with dh as he does the 5K. we have never had an issue with finding loungers and never had to take what was 'left'. never had a bad spot yet, not that there could be a bad spot when the view is that amazing ocean!
as to getting off the ship first, i thought dh told me they did go first but i would have to check on that. maybe it differs with different sailings?
looking at our last navigator it lists meeting at 8 a.m. for the 5K in the tube, while the all ashore is listed as approximately 8:30.

ETA- just talked with dh. he said while they are among the first off, being the first off has only happened once. he has done 5K 5 times.

I agree completely.

And for me, in my opinion for my own personal self, hammocks are overrated. For someone with skin that marks up like crazy, the LAST thing I want on a beach day is hammock marks all over my back and legs LOL.

Yes, on our last couple of cruises, the 5K people were directed to meet prior to the all ashore time, and they were taken down the aft stairwell. Only them, no one else was allowed to use the aft stairwell until they were all off.

Are there any people that walk it instead of running it? Not sure if I will be ready to run it all. Never did a 5K before.

I just did the 5k for the first time 3days ago during sold out Fantasy sailing. Ticket you get from port adventures desk said to meet at the tube at 8:00. I got there 10 minutes before and they had already checked in about 50 people. We waited for more than 30 minutes for everyone to check in-200 people had signed up per CM in charge. I would say at least a third walked or ran-walked it. We then walked very slowly to start line at bike rentals so people could drop off kids at scuttles cove. They started the race at 9:00. I was done and was able to walk back to cabin by 9:45 ish and I am not a fast or true runner. DH had just gotten kids changed and fed by then and we then walked back down to family beach. There were plenty of loungers left in shade and sun at this point and the beach was not yet very crowded. It was very humid so drink lots of water. We don't have humidity where I live so I tried to get used to it by jogging on deck 4 in the days leading up to the 5k. We were lucky sky was a little overcast in the early morning.

I just looked at a personal navigator for the Dream from earlier this month. It says to register at the Port Adventures desk or Guest Services desk anytime prior to arrival at Castaway Cay. We did not participate on our first cruise, but plan to next month now that my youngest is 10 (minimum age).
