Interscope Records, MTV, BET, The Comedy Channel, Viacom? Will CBS be worried "about the children" and do something about the language on these venues that they own? :rotfl2:

Not when there's still an off switch and a channel changer.

Then perhaps it would have been better for CBS to say that they were removing Imus because their advertizers were bailing and it wouldn't be "profitable".

Yes, because that's the real story. If Proctor and Gamble, Staples and all the other sponsors of the Imus show hadn't heard from consumers that they will not support people who supported Imus-the show would probably not have gotten cancelled.

CBS is responsible to shareholders, and therefore had better "say" whatever is best for their long-term interests, rather than saying what perhaps would be easier for critics to attack. Doing the latter would be irresponsible.

But on VH1 the nappy headed ho's ARE the entertainment! "Flavor of Love" anyone? Trash as it's finest (and DAMN entertaining at that!)

I'm not sure I follow. Why would it be a negative to say that CBS was responding to the feelings of the sponsors, who were responding to the requests from consumers? I think consumers need to know that they do have a voice in something like this. Maybe if people felt more empowered, there would be less garbage out there on the public airwaves.

Perception. If CBS claims it is because of what he "said" then they are perceived by some as being socially responsible (a positive thing). If they say they pulled the plug because the sponsors bailed, then they perceived as having no morals at all, and only chasing the almighty dollar. While it may be true, we live in a society of spin. Look at politics.

Thank you!!! :thumbsup2

I htink it's pretty clear CBS doesn't care aobut anything but the bottom line. They have done what needed to be done, and said what needed to be said, and put this Imus incident to bed. Now they will go back to pushing I love New York and dozens of profanity filled rap CDs to fill their pockets with bling.

Are you asking me why the general public responds to certain information certain ways?

CBS and Viacom split into two seperate publicly traded entities on December 31, 2005.

Insterscope is part of the Universal Music Group that is owned by Vivendi.

What's your point?
