Yup, same stupid TV management mentality. 65 to deceased viewers kept local TV stations and networks afloat during this recession, yet they want to go after those young folks with no money.
Actually, the problem is that those young folks are the folks who are spending money based on the commercials they watch. A lot of us old fogies ignore the commercials.
At my station, our most loyal advertiser during the recession sells walk in bath tubs for senior citizens....at $14,000 each. The bathtubs are flying out the door.....yet the local Toyota dealer, can't get anyone to buy his $14,000 Yaris (sales down 42% in the past year ) targeted at those 18 to 29.

Actually, NBC O & O's back in November kicked off a big effort to attract over 55 viewers and advertisers with products geared at the demographic.
Young folks certain have a greater tendency to throw money away, but younger folks right now don't have money, and the overr 55 folks are often sitting on a lot of cash. The trick now is getting them to spend it.
The teeter totter of baby boomers has crested age 48, so if commerical TV doesn't start targeting older folks, and advertisers don't find ways to get them to spend money, everything is going to collapse.

So where is Dave Price going? I saw yesterday's show when they were saying their goodbyes to him. I assumed he was going to another network, but they never said. I didn't know they were ALL leaving.
AFAIK he doesn't have anything lined up yet (or possibly couldn't say if he did b/c of contract issues). Official word was that CBS was going to reassign him, and he said no thanks.
I'm going to predict him going back to a major market affiliate to do wx (he could very well stay in NY or go back to Philly or Chicago where he was for a time)... or even something like game show hosting. I seem to remember his name being in the mix for The Price is Right when Bob Barker stepped down, before Drew Carey got the gig. I could also see him in on a Regis and Kelly type show.
