Going to CBR in March and will have a car. To get to Magic Kingdom for rope drop, am I better off taking the bus direct to MK or car to TTC and hop to MK?

Omg take your car you'll miss it. The buses dont leave for the park until it's completely full in the morning it's a pain. Stayed there in september won't be back for that reason.

Are you saying that the bus waits at the bus stop at CBR until more people come and fill up the bus? It's been a year since I've stayed there, but that was not my experience at the time. In fact, I was always under the impression they keep the buses moving so the next bus could pull up to the stop.

FWIW, the typical advice is that you should bus to MK since it drops you at the gate. If you drive and park, you will need to take the monorail or ferry from TTC which is an additional wait/line and can be congested at park closing. But if you have gear like strollers or wheelchairs, it might be easier to take your own car. Just depends on your situation.

What happened when we were there was that the bus kept circling all the pick up spots till the bus was full.

I just got home from CBR and the busses were fabulous... much better than when we stayed at POR. They stopped at 2-3 stops and then went straight to the parks. We never had a bus even close to full!

That would be incredibly unusual. Yes, they make a loop through the resort, but they don't keep looping until the bus is full! That sure would be an issue at 7am! It might take three or four loops to fill the bus.
Usually, people will tell you to drive to all parks, except MK. Why? You have to get to your car, drive to MK, park, take the tram to the TTC, either ferry or monorail to MK...vs get to the bus stop, wait for the bus, ride to MK, get off the bus and walk to the main entrance.

We're "early" people. Historically, we arrive at MK at around 8:15 for a 9:00 opening. What are my options to hit that window or earlier?

Be at the bus stop 1 hour before you want to arrive at the park gate. Buses should be running early enough to get you there by 8:15.
