Need some help.... trying to plan a trip in March of 07. We would like to try a moderate resort. DH and I stayed at CBR back in 98 and asked and paid for a water view. We were so disappointed with our corner lake room (we saw more of the a/c equipment than lake). Can anyone give us ideas on some places to stay that have NICE water view. Thought I read in a thread that Martique is preferred and water view - is this true? Also saw something about rooms have there own beach, which area's are these?

Thinking of giving CBR another try. Kinda on the fence about CBR and CS.
Any help would be great. If I am going to pay peak prices, want it to be worth it!

We had a water view room in the Barbados section. We were in the last bldg next to the woodsy section and it was really peaceful there. We had a lovely view across the water towards the central/food court area.

It was about a 7-8 minute walk to the central area, but we were only a minute or so from the bus stop. During that trip, I made a note that if we were to stay there again, I would request Martinique. Now I'm not so sure. I would probably request Barbados again because it was so nice and quiet there.

There was a small beach outside our bldg. and we had a nice quiet pool area.

Personally I think the water view category is a waste of money. It is hard to see the water from most rooms. Since you don't have a private balcony the only way to see the water is to keep the curtains open. Then everyone walking by can see in your room.

A preferred location is worth the money. I have a map up on my website and I also have lots of pictures showing the playgrounds and beaches.

Personally, I think paying for a water view room in any Moderate is a waste of money because there is the exterior corridor between your window and whatever the "view" might be. So if you have your curtains wide open to see the view, then everyone walking by has a great view of YOU.

There's no such thing as one village or another having a better water view than another. Take a look at the map of CBR ...

http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/cbrmap.htm

Each building you see has rooms on all 4 sides, so you can understand that it's physically impossible for an entire building let along an entire village to have 100% of its rooms as water view.

The preferred location rooms are in the 6 buildings closest to Old Port Royale. These are all 3 buildings in Trinidad North (31-32-33) and half of the buildings in Martinique (24-25-26). The other half of Martinique (Buildings 21-22-23) are NOT preferred location rooms.

If you read something about some rooms having their own beach, then you weren't reading about Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort. Sorry, no such thing.

Another thing about water view at Moderates ... Disney is pretty creative with their definition of water view. It may be the lake, but it may also be one of the village quiet pools. No, I'm not joking.
I think CBR is great, by the way.

Safetymom - looked at your photos. They were great, what area did you stay in? Building number? Looks nice. Thanks everyone for posting. Just having a hard time deciding on a place to stay. Wanted to try a deluxe but being peak season the rates are high. So Moderate here we come. Was thinking about CSR but I've read it doesnt have a "disney feel".

Guess I'll eventually make up my mind. Thanks everyone!

I have stayed in Trinidad North, Martinique, Jamaica, Aruba and had great rooms in all of them.

We stayed there twice. The first time was in 2002 and was in Jamaica and they gave us a pool view. It was nice, but somewhat noisy. The second year we were there we were in Jamaica as well but this time it was garden/courtyard view. I enjoyed that 100% better too. Both years we were in bldg. 44 and would stay there again too.

I can't imagine why anyone would pay for a water view room at the moderates for this reason alone. It's one of many reasons why I despise the moderates.

I just wanted to say that we were upgraded to our water view. We only paid for standard. I wholeheartedly agree that I would not pay for a water view at the moderates.

One good thing about our location is that we were in the last room in that bldg on the second floor, so we did keep our curtains open quite a bit. There was never anyone walking by and we really were able to see the water. The view was nice, but I wouldn't pay extra for it.

I guess I'm in the minority. While I would love to be always able to stay at a deluxe resort, it simply isn't always in the budget. And of course I would prefer a private balcony but it doesn't mean I don't get any use out of a water view.

I loved my room in Aruba. It was about two rooms away from the corner room. So we had a beautiful direct view of the lake when we'd open the curtains and a view of the quiet pool as soon as we'd leave our rooms. I'm not always a "park commando" so if you are in your room during peak park hours (leaving later in the morning, napping in the afternoon) I found that I would enjoy the view from my room and not have much foot traffic going by. I think this would be less true in the preffered sections.

I also think it is Trinidad South that has "their own private lake" and is less preferred by some because it is a farther walk but if you want to stop and smell the roses, I think that location would be ideal.

I love Caribbean Beach, romantic and whimsical. But I've been checking out the photos of a DIS member named Buzz and his website on the Coronado Springs is breathtaking! I'd be willing to check out that resort anytime!

We had a water view at the CBR (Trinidad South, Building 35) and a non-water view at the CSR. We honestly didn't notice the difference given that we spent most of our waking moments away from the room anyway.
