I am composing my letter for a room request. I've listed four items that we are looking for:
1) non-smoking
2) specific sections/bldgs (I gave three)
3) lake view (we have a res for a king bedroom - don't know where they face)
4) two-windows

1st - is that too many requests? Really, the most important things to us are #1 & #2

2nd - what are the pros & cons of 1st floor vs 2nd floor? I can think of none except lugging baby-gear (DS is 2) up a flight of steps at the end of the day; so I don't have a floor request - not sure if this is imprtant.

Thanks in andavce for any advise you have!

Depends on when you are going. I have stayed at CBR four times. Twice in Aruba and twice in Jamaica. Enjoyed all four rooms.

My call would be to just ask for the non-smoking and the location unless you are going during an off season. Ask for the most important and remember you rarely spend time in the room looking out at anything (the only exception possibly AKL savannah view).

I have been both up and down and really have no preference. If you are lugging tired kids and assorted gear, a first floor might be easier.

Enjoy!!

Thank you for the advise JimC. We are going in the 1st week of February (I think that is sort of off season). You are right about the AKL savannah view! We stayed there last April and I actually looked forward to taking DS back to the room mid-day for his nap. That was my quiet time to sit on the balcony & watch the animals! Goodness, I loved that place!

I think your request looks good. I had quite a few on my request for the AKL and the room assigner did an awesome job.
The good thing about 2nd floor rooms is that no one is above you. Some people walk heavy or have kids running around the room and that can make alot of noise. Also the view out the window is nice from higher up.
First floor rooms are good because you don't have to climb the stairs at the end of the night, which is tough on some. Also there are sitting areas outside some of the rooms and it is nice to be able to just step out and have a seat and relax.

You should have no problem with the no smoking request. That's a given. I know a water view room is an extra charge. I find it to be quite minimal for getting a guaranteed great view (instead of a parking lot). We stayed in Jamaica in room 4251. Water View. 2nd floor. Close to the car to unload and load our luggage (which is all on rollers so the one flight of stairs was no biggie). The view was terrific of the lake. The ice machine was really close (we use a 50 quart cooler on wheels for pop, juice, milk, etc which I just drained and refilled with ice each morning) and the Jamaica pool and laundry was close too, as was the beach.
