I have seen a handful of comments regarding a refurb at CBR. Does anyone have any new news or updates? We have 3 rooms reserved in the beginning of May and the larger beds would be ideal but of course we have accepted it may not be an option. It does not change our choice of resort but that doesn't mean I am any less hopeful!

Here's a copy of the post that I made yesterday regarding a question about the refurb:

I know that calling the Disney Travel line and asking to speak to someone at a specific resort doesn't really get you to the resort.

A week or two after our last trip, I wrote to Disney Guest Services with some of my thoughts about our visit to WDW last May. I received a telephone call from a supervisor at Guest Services and we spoke about the things that I brought up. She told me that she had spoken to the lead manager at the resort and that I would be getting a letter from her with a direct number to the resort manager. I was to call the manager after I received the letter which I did. The number was a direct number to this person. She answered by name and by resort.

While she and I were discussing my letter and discussing a reservation for May, 2014, I specifically asked if the resort rooms would be getting a refurb as I had heard rumors. I was told that it was true and that it was scheduled to begin in April, 2014. She stated that they would start in one village, finish up each building and then make their way around the resort so that guests would not be disturbed by the work going on. I asked if there was a possibility that I would get a new room when we arrived in May, 2014, I was told that it was possible.

There was a need for her to call me back several days later and it was then that I remembered to ask if the room refurb would include changing the beds from full to queen. She did confirm that the rooms will have queen beds.

Last week, possibly the week before, I had an online chat with a castmember regarding a ticket question. I asked about the refurb and they checked their official refurb schedule and he confirmed that it was set to begin in April. Before when I had asked in online chats (and others reported the same thing), I was told that there was nothing on their schedule. Now, it appears that it is.

I still have the manager's telephone number and name and was told to call her back at any time should I have questions; however, I haven't called because I do not want to abuse the fact that I have a direct number. However, I will be calling around the middle to end of April to put in requests and I will ask about the refurb again. Of course, by that time, I am sure that if the refurb starts early in April, some of our fellow Disers will post what they have seen.

Thank you for posting this again! I did a search but did not find this previously. Ironically enough, I asked on the chat today and was told that nothing was on the schedule that they could see. My primary reason for interest is for the sake of the room that has my in-laws and my husbands grandmother. While this resort is great for us, I knew the room situation was not ideal for them once I learned they would be joining us.

Fingers crossed for a speedy flip!

The permits were filed and then recorded on Feb 11, 2014 for "Room Rehab" for work to "commence" and it is scheduled to be completed by May 20, 2015. The permit is set for one year from recording unless applicant says otherwise, which they did so I would expect it to be completed by May 20, 2015. Many of their permits they ask for no extra time, this one they did. It appears the Pirate Rooms will not be included, which is no surprise as to change to queen beds in that room means a huge expense.

They have permits. Having the permit is no guarantee. Now the next step is to see when they begin the work. If they start April 1st as some predict then that is a 14 month project.

Very interesting, thank you for sharing.

I wonder how this will work with the pirate rooms. Will they return those pirate beds or leave them as doubles? Considering that many people already don't like them for their distance to the main building, will they continue to sell them at an increased rate?

I feel they will leave them as they are.

I believe so. They are very appealing to some. Whenever we're at CBR, I don't ever notice less people at the Trinidad South bus stop.

The permits do not list those buildings as part of the renovation. Assuming at this time they are not going to change them. Maybe the thought is that since you are far away from the main hub your perk is the pirate decor. I don't know how popular they are, they always seem available. When we went our car was all alone in the parking lot, I saw no other people or lights in our building. I even took a picture of our car because it was so strange.

Having stayed in them, they have a great idea going, they just need to finish the room. It needs more decor on the walls - just too brown, brown. brown. Maybe if they put in some type of small murphy bed like Alligator Bayou rooms it would help. The rooms are bigger than most moderate and with full beds they could figure it out.

:offtopic: Are all Pirate Rooms located in the same "Village"? or are they're some scattered throughout...hopefully located closer to the Pools? Thanks

They are in Trinidad South which is the farthest buildings from the main area. Our pirate room looked out over the POP Century buildings. They have a quiet pool.

Thanks for sharing the info! I was thinking of switching to CBR - for 2 connecting rooms - oh how we'd love to get new rooms. Ugh - but my ideal booking would be a King room connected to regular room both in preferred section. Wonder what the odds of getting all of that to happen in October will be?

That configuration is available in the preferred buildings. It just depends on how many others request the same. There's no way to know unfortunately.

Ok so a follow up question then, if that configuration is not available and I've already paid for my king and preferred rooms - but they don't have connecting and I then request to connect in a different building will they credit my stay since I'll no longer have 'preferred' location?
