We are going to be at CBR aug 28 to Sept 3, this will be are first time at this resort. I choose this resort because we decided not to do water parks this time but my ds(5) loves to swim. Is the walking way to much, we have never paid for a preferred room nor do we mind walking but after reading some of the reviews I am a bit nervous. I am not worried about busses to parks since we are driving to wdw but I do not intend to use internal buses. Also, does anyone have good suggestions for standard room request...

Speaking as someone who was annoyed by the size of CBR, I can say that it was only after a long day in the parks that it bothered us. We were in the Barbados village, the building facing the parking lot towards the customs house. We had two young DDs with us. We are pretty commando. So, after being at the parks from 9 am until 12 am (sometimes 1 am), if we wanted to walk to the food court to fill our mugs or grab a snack, it took FOREVER. Our girls were just soooo tired, and completely dragged behind. It would easily take us about 15 minutes to get to OPR, no joke. :headache:

CBR is a pretty resort. We got great customer service from the CMs. We got towel animals everyday, but because of the size, for us, we won't be rushing back...at least until the kiddos are older. Again, that's just us.

I hope I'm allowed to post this link...if not, it can be removed.*Mods

It has information on which buildings are preferred and which aren't. I'm not sure how current it is, but it does suggest checking a map before you book a room. We stayed in Aruba 51 which was a short walk across the bridge to OPR.

Well, for sure if I was in the parks from 9:00 a.m to midnight, I would find walking anything longer than 100 feet very difficult!

CBR is large, but we find it very doable and well laid out.

If you are concerned about size, preferred might be a good idea. We really enjoyed our location in Jamaica 43, it took about five minutes to get over to OPR from our room at a leisurely pace. Our first stay at CBR was in Barbados and that walk generally took around 5 minutes as well (I think we were in bldg 16).

Pretty much any standard (as in non pirate room) room will be less than a ten minute walk to the main area. And bear in mind each village has its own pool and bus stop. There is also an internal bus that I never saw anyone get on and the bellman who took us to our room said it was generally easier and quicker to just walk. Now if you have already been walking all day in the parks and have young kids, the walking would probably take longer. The food court does close at 11:00 so for really late nights, its best not to even bother going over to the food court.

Most people will say that Aruba and Jamaica are good locations since they are just across the bridge, although within each of those sections, there are several buildings, some that are not as close as others.

I personally would not pay for a preferred room at CBR, however that is really subjective. It might be worth it for the peace of mind alone! We have friends that stayed at CBR in October with young kids (their ds is 6) and they got a preferred room and while they didn't think it was a waste, after staying there and seeing the size and scope, they said they would just book standard next time.

I've been in Martinique and Aruba. If you are not booking a preferred room people say to request Aruba or Jamaica, which we did. I'll tell you right now, if I ever stay there again, I'll be paying a little more for a preferred room. CBR is one resort where it's worth it. We normally use our refillable mugs several times a day, but hardly ever used them the trip we were in Aruba. It just seemed to far over there, to make it worth the walk. CBR is a very pretty resort though. It's just that the last two times we've stayed there we had really bad luck with both housekeeping and buses. Both were very bad. Then we didn't care for either the food court or Shutters the TS restaurant. We love the other three moderates though.
