CBR Portion of our trip

We are finished with the CBR portion of our trip. This was our third stay at a moderate after previous stays at POFQ and CSR.

Overall, CBR is a fine resort, but isn't a fine resort by the Disney standard. The resort is in excellent shape, well cared for and the rooms are spacious and comfortable.

Like other moderates, the resort is spread out. For the life of me, I can't figure out why they chose not to include the check-in area with the food court/merchandise area.

Other observations:

Bell Services: We had to wait about an hour for our luggage upon arrival (we arrived with our luggage in a towncar service) and an hour for luggage pickup on checkout. It was particularly frustrating for the bell services staff to call us 20 minutes into our wait on check-in to tell us someone was on their way. After another 30 minute wait, they called again to check if we were still there and tell us they would be sending someone out with the luggage right then. It was just a tad frustrating.

Food Court: This is much more limited than other moderates or even the Pop Century. The food court is small and was too crowded on several mornings to find a seat inside. Lines at the various food stations are long. The offerings are limited to some pasta items, burgers and deep fried foods.

Transportation: Buses don't seem to run as often as at POFQ, CSR or Pop. When you do get on, there are myriad of stops around the resort, so it's either standing room only or a ten minute ride around the resort before you head off to your destination.

Overall, the experience was good--it just wasn't that special Disney Magic. For my money, I would stay at Pop Century or POFQ before I chose to stay at CBR again.

Thanks for the review. CBR is the only mod we have not stayed at. I would have definately been frustrated waiting that long for my luggage - were you waiting at check in with it or were you in your room waiting for it to be delivered?

We had a similar experience there. The only other mod we have stayed at is CSR and we had a wonderful stay there. I would definitely stay at CSR again, but not CBR.

That is what is great about WDW. There are many resorts for many tastes. We prefer CBR over the other moderates.

I have a completely different view of the CBR food court.

I've stayed at CBR twice (most recently in May of 2005), and I was just at POFQ last month. While I love both places, POFQ is my new favorite. The only thing that I didn't like, in comparison with CBR, was POFQ's food court. I found CBR to have a MUCH better variety and selection -- I was frustrated by what I found to be a relatively limited selection at POFQ. Also, CBR's Grab n' Go Market in the food court was fantastic, and there's nothing like it at POFQ.

Some of my favorite (and relatively healthy) selections from the CBR food court that weren't available at POFQ: tabouleh platter, Asian chicken salad (a salad based on greens and udon noodles in a sesame dressing -- it's NOT chunks of chicken in mayo), rotisserie chicken, and so on.

Wow, we stayed at CBR last May 2006, and really enjoyed it. We also arrived in a towncar and brought out luggage immediately inside with us. We were told we could walk to Aruba by the check in people, but once we got outside a staff member said that was way too far and that the internal shuttle would take us, but not our luggage. So he very kindly took us and our luggage right over to Aruba in his van. We gave him a tip and thanked him very much. We found the food court quite good especially for breakfast, but we did most often dine outside as the children loved all the birds and animals there. We were on the DDP, so we didn't really have many dinners there at all. I'm sorry your stay was not enjoyable for you there, but I am sure you will have a great time wherever to decide to stay next time.
Take care,
Donna

CBR remains my favorite moderate, but my stay there in April of this year produced a similar confusion fiasco of luggage delivery/non-delivery.
We arrived at CBR at 1:30, about an hour ahead of schedule. I went ahead and checked in and was told the room was not yet ready, and was given an 800 number to call to keep checking back. Two customers I deliver our organic meats along the route to finance the trip) met the Big Yeller Penske Truck on schedule at 2:30, the reaming customer had told us she would be late due to her kids’ Dr. appointments. Plans were to meet her at our room. Three o’clock arrived and still no room. Jeanette suggested I go ahead and return the Penske truck and she would stay there to meet the customer, should she make it there early. Now, stay with me as this gets confusing. Jeanette had our luggage PLUS a big, white marine cooler with 100 pounds of meat in it AND our room keys. So I left with the truck. After I returned it and was waiting for my cab, I called Jeanette and we had a room number, it was now 4:30 and they had JUST cleared our room assignment as they were shampooing the carpet.

I arrive at the room (no key) and I must have the wrong room because Jeanette is not there. It is now 5:00. So I call her. Nope, right room. Poor Jeanette is STILL at the Custom’s House with out luggage and the room keys, sitting on the cooler. Seems the Disney van room transport people did not have room in any of the vans for other guests plus her PLUS cooler. She was willing to let the luggage leave without her, but when they told her it could be 3-4 hours before it arrived at the room, she couldn’t relinquish the cooler as we did not know when the customer was coming. So there she had sat, finished her book, people watched and memorized the ME schedule for over 1 ½ HOURS! (Yes, she is still speaking to me.)

I offered to come to the CH to sit with her, but she said they had promised her a ride in just a few minutes. Had I known then what I know now, I would have insisted she call a cab to come transport her.

FINALLY we get everything to the room, almost 4 hours after checking in at the resort.
