I have the 7 for 4 package for June, staying at CBR. We are thinking of staying at a 2 BR at WH instead, but it comes out to be the same price as the Disney package since we have to rent a car, pay for parking and gas. Yes, WH would give us more space, but we like the Disney magic and we like other people driving us around. I just thought that offsite was so much cheaper, but it doesn't seem to be. I haven't been able to find any "good deals" yet for June. Are all of you driving to WDW and that makes it less expensive?

Well we're a family of 5, but when I price out May 31-Jun 6 [7 nights] for Port Orleans Riverside [only Moderate room we could all fit in legally]....

ONSITE

POR + 7 day BASE tix = $1929....

We can't eat much in the rooms but snacks so we're reliant on eating out now...can do some offsite and some onsite ...

$500 low estimate

dining plan adds close to $1k for my family of 5 becuase oldest is 10 so that's not even worth thinking of....

$800 high estimate

Price = $2429 - $2729

Offsite...

TIX through undercovertourist... I could get 7 day tix for $1039.75.....round up $1040.

Offsite digs....you can get 3 BEDROOM condo at Windsor Hills for $750 average. BUT there are deals to be had, if you search and/or simply ask the sellers....I recently found one for $450 TOTAL...3 bedrooms...

I still want to eat out, maybe a nice character breakfast and a ts and some cs at parks....but will do some cooking at condo....so let's say $410 food budget.

$1490 + $410 food = $1900 + parking $100 {$12 per day + tax just in case] = $2000.

We are driving there...and heading to the beach afterwards.....
if we weren't driving, we'd have to do rental....let's assume you get a good deal $120 for the week...

$2120+80 gas....$2200

So savings is $429-$729 without car rental and $229-529 with car rental....

Not substantial. But nothing to sneeze at.

Pros onsite:
  • EMH potential
  • Dining Plan if kids are <10
  • immersed in the magic
  • disney transportation

Pros offsite:
  • ROOM TO SPREAD OUT
  • more home cooked meals
  • money savings
  • if kids are >10, dining plan not really better option

There you go.

If it were just me, DH & our kids, we'd probably stay onsite. But we're going with my parents & my two sisters and the fact that we're going to knock about half off our accomodations by sharing the 5 BR villa with them is just too much to pass up. So........the savings we have for that will almost buy our tickets for our family (our youngest is free b/c she's 2). I just can't make myself pass up that savings.

As for pros/cons, check out this post (started by moi, ;))

Forgot to say...

If I were you I would go for CBR. The resort looks like a relaxing break from the parks and the updated pool should be great. You seem to prefer onsite anyway so go for it!

:thumbsup2

Thanks for your breakdown. Here is mine
CBR with tickets is about 1750 (One of our kids is over 10)
WH 2BR condo w/tax 700 plus tickets 850= 1550
Car rental with discount= 250 (hoping for a better deal but June is expensive)
Parking 12x6=72
Gas= 50?
Total for WH is $1672 but we could eat some breakfasts or sandwiches in. I don't really want to cook during vacation! So the food savings is minimal.
There really isn't much of a price difference between the two. It's a hard decision to make.We may add on a few nights to go to SW and KSC and stay at WH for 3 nights.
I just looked at the 3 BR at WH and many of them are the same price or lower than the 2BR! I will keep looking for a deal, but will keep my Disney reservation.

If we were a family of 4 I would more than likey stay onsite...being a family of 5 is hard at WDW...

We LOVED Pop Century. We had to do 2 rooms, but you could save even more money and stay there...although I am going to change my mind because it's probably really crowded at the values in summer time...scratch that.

Oooh. Have you considered renting DVC points??? OMG. If not, it's the best of all worlds.

A family of 4 or less can rent a studio at BOARWALK VILLAS, BEACH CLUB VILLAS, OLD KEY WEST, SARATOGA SPRINGS, ANIMAL KNGDOM VILLAS & the new one at the Contemporary [although I'm sure it's impossible and more expensive]....for CHEAP.

The key is going Sunday through Friday, so 5 nights/6 days. You can rent points for as little as $9 per point and as much as $14 per point. So for example....Sunday Jun 7 through Friday Jun 12 a studio at Boardwalk Villas costs 55 points....let's say $11 per point....so it's $605 to be ONSITE. You'll have a little kitchenette for breakfast or light food [I know you don't want to cook]...you have a fantastic pool, great location, you could do dining if you want, disney transportation, all perks except daily housekeeping [you could add for a fee I believe].

There's a board dedicated to DVC...check it out!

We don't want to stay at the values b/c they do not have a covering over their bus stop. That would not be good in the summer. Also, I really want to stay at a mod this time. On our last trip we stayed at POP in two rooms b/c my mom came and one of my dds stayed with her.. It was nice to have more space. I just don't know if we could all stay in one room for a week.

I will look at DVC. I've looked for past trips but it never worked out for us.

We are staying at Windsor Hills in June because we have 6 adults going. It saves us alot by not getting two rooms. But when it was just an "all girls" trip, which was 4 adults, we were staying onsite. We have stayed offsite before and had a great trip, but we really like having the dining plan and staying onsite. So I guess what I am saying is if onsite works, that is what I would do. Have a great trip whatever you decide!

I enjoy my vacations a lot more when the kids and the adults sleep in different rooms. I'd much rather have the space.

See what you can get the Ft. Wilderness cabins or the Family Value suites for---they give you the best of both worlds at something less-than-ridiculous, price-wise.
