Just got back from 5 nights at Caribbean Beach, and 4 nights on the Magic.
Our experiences were good. We rented a scooter from Buena Vista Scooter and it was the small one since we were going to rent a car at National Car Care Center. We called National and they sent an accessible van to pick us up and when we went into the Emerald Aisle office I asked if I could get a mini-van for our fullsize rental. I got a Dodge Caravan and we could lift the scooter up without taking it apart. Good start.
We had a king room in Aruba real close to handicap parking on the first floor.
They put us in the same buildings as the High School Dance Teams, so part of the parking lot was used for their tents and check-in. The security guard would wave me away but I needed to park in a handicap space next to our building 54. No problems. On Thurs we used FP+ with no problems.
We met my sister and brother-in-law on Friday at 5pm dinner at Epcot. Here is her experience with DAC.
My sister has had an invisible disability since age 50 and is now 62. She gets stares and smart remarks at airports all the time since she uses a wheelchair assist. She now lives in FL and travels extensively on JetBlue since they are the nicest ( not JetBlue Passengers) but the staff. JetBlue passengers have brought her to tears.
At Epcot last week she was having trouble explaining her needs for her Disability assistance pass. She was close to tears when her DH said , "what if your internal feeding tube pump alarm goes off when you are in line" what are you going to do?
Well the CM looked quite shocked and gave her the DAS pass. We could not get one for DH since he had a scooter. Fortunately we were with DS so we went on Test track with her DAS. As it was TT went down so we had to come back a second time. We used FP+ for us when we were just the two of us. Worked fine.
People can be hard on folks with invisible disabilities
We used the scooter up until Sunday night then returned it to CB guest services over at the custom house and took the internal bus back to our bldg. 54.
Getting to ship was OK but took too long. We lined up for the bus at 12 noon but made several long stops and didn't get to the port until 2:15PM
Dropped off our bags in our accessible cabin 7636 on deck 7 and headed to cabanas. Rest of the trip was fine.
We were off the ship at 8 AM and made our 11:57AM flight with plenty of time.
The accessible cabin was a godsend for DH. Made everything easier for him.
Only negative was the thruster noise when docking. We had an aft 6A wrap around verandah 7636 which we rarely used.
