I have had 2 clients whom I have arranged for Mears transportation to pick them up from their resort and bring them to Seaworld. Both clients have had a scheduled 8:30am departure.
While waiting at the advised area for pick up, at about 8:20am an unmarked van comes pulling up (screeching up according to one of my clients)and says to those waiting "seaworld". One of my clients said there last name and the drive says "yes". My clients, both expecting and waiting for the seaworld transportation payed the driver and got into the van.
The van does take them to Seaworld, but it drops them off at the tour bus area instead of right at the entrance where the Mears vans are.
When going to seaworld one of my clients had a feeling that something wasn't right. The driver was in a huge hurry, the van was unmarked, and of course once getting to Seaworld realized that it indeed wasn't really Mears transport.
Once they got to Seaworld, they spoke with a Mears bus driver and also with Mears dispatch regarding the situation. Mears told them that yes, these vans were operated by a different company and they were aware of the situation. That the vans always came about 10 minutes early, and were always in a hurry to get out of there before the REAL Mears vans appeared.
But they were definately NOT Mears. Mears did give them there cell phone to call for return pick up if they wanted, but advised that they would have to repay for that portion.
When my clients were ready to return to the resort, they noticed the same van that had took them there waiting to pick them up for there return.
They decided to take the van back (since they had already paid them) since they had already paid them, and they did arrive safely back at the resort.
However, the situation in itself is a scary one. I personally wonder how these unmarked vans get onto the resort in the first place.
So word of warning, if choosing Mears, or any other company, make sure that you go on the Marked Vans and know who you really are traveling with!
