We had to recently put one of our family cats to sleep. DD was very upset and it took quite awhile for her to get over the loss of our family friend. Last week we went and got a kitten from our local shelter. We brought Phineas home and did everything we were supposed to do. We let the cats sniff the kittens box...we made sure to put the kitten into the bathrooom for a week. We let the cats sniff the door and under the door etc. I put clothing that I had worn holding the kitten in the older cats area. We made sure we paid more attention to the older cats. We slowly allowed visitation(supervised). Well, one of the cats is fine with the kitten, at first she hissed, spit and ran but now she could care less. The other cat however will have nothing to do with the kitten and spends all day under my bed. She has pooped under my bed because she will not go to the litter box, she will not come out for food or water when when the kitten is shut up in the bathroom. I have pulled her out and sat with her and petted her for hours in my room but she is petrified by the new addition. I don't know what to do. I am thinking I should put her in the bathroom with the kitten adn our other cat. I know she will not hurt it...shes declawed and I will stay. The cat is 4 years old. Any ideas????? Weve tried treats, food etc...still stays under the bed and hisses and spits and claws when we bring the kitten near or when we try to approach her now without the kitten.

I'd take the scared kitty out of your room... shut the door so she can't get back in and then just give them a little time to work it out.

Im worried if I take her out she will just find another place to hide. I am thinking I will put a litter box in my room (won't DH love that!) and leave the door open so that maybe kitten can wander in and out that eventually the cat will get used to her, if not there is a littel box close by so she wont go under the bed.She will have to come out for food, I think she is coming out at night.
