Cats and furniture/ Update in first post!

I may get flamed for saying so, but I had my cat declawed on her front claws. She is an indoor-only cat. This has worked well for both of us.

Now, I just have to use a lint roller for the hair and clean off the occasional hairball.

I did the same thing, like I said before my son I had circumsised which is even worse.

I have two cats, two litter boxes, i clip their claws myself - your vet will show you how. just work up to it slowly. hold cat on lap, lots of petting, touching paws, gentle squeezes to show claws etc.

good luck!

It shouldn't be a problem if they are already using the same box. I have tried many types of litter and I feel the best litter is Arm & Hammer Multi Cat Strength. Make sure it is the (Multi- Cat Strength) I have 3 litter boxes, 2 indoor and 1 in our cat enclosure. My house does not smell like cats! I couldn't stand that!

Yup, after much deliberation, we had our son circumcised also. (My StepDad had never been circumcised and deloped some kind of infection that required a circumcision when he was in his 40s or 50s and then had to get the procedure re-done when he developed another infection or something. :confused3 He strongly recommended that we get DS circumcised when he was a baby and wouldn't be able to remember it. :rotfl2: )

I'm not too sure that I'd want the cat to have the choice of whether or not to declaw me! And since kitty strongly dislikes children, I'm sure she would have had me fixed before I gave birth to DS and DD, if it had been her choice.

To the OP, if you're willing to adopt an older cat, you may have an easier time finding one that is already declawed. Also, many shelters will only adopt out cats and kittens that are already fixed (can be done at 8-9 weeks of age, now). If the cat you want to adopt hasn't yet been fixed, you may have to wait a couple of days to bring him/her home.

Another method to train cats from scratching furniture and keep of kitchen counters etc. is to use a spray bottle and spray the cat with water any time he/she starts to scratch the furniture or gets up on the counter. You will need to provide acceptable places to scratch and nifty places to inspect.

Good Luck!
