I have most of the pieces of my son's uniform. We went and bought his shoes today. After I brought them home I read the dress code carefully again and it said dress brown shoes, leather, saddle, buckle or tie....well I got a loafer type...I wonde if it's ok?? Here's what it looks like...(I hope it works) - I'll call the school Monday - but what to you think??

Catholic School - Buckle or tie means Buckle or Tie usually. I think you may need to find a different shoe- But it can't hurt to ask. Good luck.

And I had the tie one in my hands and the salesperson says to me "All the kids in privae school by the Merrills because they are so comfortable"...and I was sucked right in!!!

Oh well - I just hate not knowing....no biggy

Catholic school parent here. I think the key word is dress shoe. The schools are usually looking for a shoe one would wear with dress pants. The shoes in the photo have a rubber or Vibram sole and that to me is an athletic shoe. They probably would let a Bass Loafer slide by because it has a leather sole like a dress shoe. It will depend on how rigid your school is with the dress code.

Id think its OK. Shoes like that were ok when I was in school.

I wouldn't consider the shoe in the picture a dress shoe.

I wouldn't consider it a dress shoe either. Hopefully they will let you use it, but I would be a bit surprised.

My DD goes to Catholic school, has a strict uniform, and she wears those exact same shoes (except in tan). I would say 95% of the kids at her school wear those Merrell's so IMO they are fine, but I would call or ask an experienced parent to make sure.

i would go by what the school tells you when you call-not by word of mouth from the other parents at the school on what has been acceptable in the past. if you get a teacher that goes strictly by the book those shoes will not be acceptable and they will point right to the dress code to support it.

be thankfull your school has'nt jumped on the bandwagon of 'taking the guesswork' out of uniform shopping and mandated only using a particular company's products. my kid's former school did that and you HAD to buy from their chosen company-which prominantly embroidered their logo in a visable manner on all their clothing so you could'nt slip anything by. while shoes were'nt an issue-it got crazy expensive when you had to buy all other outerware including coats and hats from them (the polo type shirts were over $30 each 6 years ago:scared1:). the school said it was for ease in administering the dress code but i suspect they were more taken by the company's offer of a percentage of the sales.

Why not take the shoes to the school and ask them? The principal, the person who stipulates dress code or someone in the know (secretaries, teachers getting their room ready) can help you out. That way you'll know 100% for certain if the shoes are ok and you'll get the approval from someone IN the school!
