Catered buffet meal: Which would you choose?

* Italian (salad, bread, 2 entrees like from Macaroni Grill so maybe not both traditional stuff but instead a chicken/pasta and a heavier dish?)

* Tex Mex (chips, salsa, rice, beans with choice of enchiladas, flautas, tacos.)

* Fajitas (chips, salsa, fajita mixings)

* BBQ (pulled pork, brisket, sausage, with sides like potato salad, green beans, coleslaw.)

The prices are all about the same and I'm trying to do a nicer, winter themed dinner for about 60 adults. It'll be hosted at someone's (spectacular) house on a Saturday night. I can't find any other restaurants that cater that offer something other than tex mex, italian, or bbq. But there are several spots of each of those to choose from =)

What would you choose and why? Or which would you rather eat? :teeth: (btw - no allergies or vegetarians to worry about)

EDITED TO ADD: I did a poll but the page couldn't be displayed when I hit submit. I'm sad... =( Guess I can't add it now?

italian, everyone likes Italian. i would choose a pasta dish and a non pasta dish in case anyone is watching carbs.

I would go with Italian. It's neater to eat. Fajitas and tacos and pulled mpork can get messy if your eating on your lap.

Italian--I think the other choices don't follow the winter theme close enough IMHO unless you are in a region where it is the cat's meow to have those options for a "winter meal".

I'm biased though--when pregnant the other choices just do not appeal to me though they might if I were not pregnant. But for "nice winter meal"--the Italian stands out.

Since it is winter, I'd do Italian. Since so many of the dishes are oven-baked, it just seems more appropriate to the season to me.

Thanks for the feedback on the italian... it seems "nicer" to me, too, and "warmer" but I love italian and wasn't sure if everyone did.

Everyone will have a spot at a table once they get their plate from the buffet; It's just cheaper for me to hire less servers to do a buffet instead of plated meal =)

I would choose Italian unless my mother were coming, then it would have to be barbecue. The world's pickiest eater doesn't eat Italian. Of course, she doesn't eat much Mexican either except I think she would try fajitas (no salsa, though).

In my area we are oversaturated with Italian restaurants,so I would be a different person and pick something different.

But if more pick Italian, and it isn't that oversaturated in your area I would take it.

I think Italian would wider appeal among your guests plus I agree that it's just a tad more appropriate for a winter meal (the other choices match the theme fine too except the b-b-q, it's just that the Italian fits the bill a little closer).

I vote for Italian. Just because it is Texas, barbecue is not a must. arbecue sauces vary greatly from caterer to caterer, and some folks may have food allergies, the same with Tex-Mex, some folks may not be able to tolerate hot-spicy dishes. When dealing with large groups, it is best to go with relatively milder foods.

I've had too many Italian meals from caterers that were just plain nasty so I would go with something else - probably the BBQ or Mexican. Italian is also really overdone around here.

Granted I'm Italian and pretty picky about how it's made so I guess take what I say with a grain of salt.

Macaroni Grill does catering? YUM. I'd do Italian. While I'm personally a huge fan of the Tex-Mex, Italian is something that everyone will eat. Definitely skip the BBQ. As good as BBQ is, if people dress up they won't want to eat it.

Yes, they do full catering with staff and everything. I think I'm going with them; it's not too pricey and I don't have to do the work!
