We are hoping to do our first DCL trip next year and are starting the preparations now.

We are figuring due to budgets, etc. that we will likely start out with a category 9. I think I'd prefer the 1 big porthole as opposed to the 2 smaller ones. Can anyone provide any suggestions on the best location on Deck 2 for a category 9 stateroom?

If I could get one of the Category 10 "secret porthole" rooms on Deck 5 would that be preferable? Are there any of those rooms on Deck 5 that don't have foot traffic right outside the port hole or are they all that way?

Thanks for any input.

I forgot to mention there would be 4 of us on the cruise. 2 adults and 2 children (age 4 and age 6).

The age of the children may make different locations on Deck 2 more desirable.

Thanks again...

Check out www.dcltribute.com for a list of staterooms with reported noise problems (and I can tell you from personal experience that 2626 should bew avoided!!!).
We stay in the Secret Porthole Rooms a lot, and it's very seldom that you will see anyone out there.

We did Cat 9 twice, both times we ended up with the same room. We stayed in room 2058, it was right by the mid-ship elevator lobby and right below the customer service desk (no noise from the clubs or restaurants. I would definately stay in this room again. Just MHO.

Our last cruise was in a category 9 and that's what I have booked for December 18. My dd loved the huge port hole and so did I.

WE have stayed in Cat 9 three times...2 times on Deck 2 and once on Deck 1.

This past January we stayed in cabins 2550, 2552. Great location mid-ship and no noise. Very convenient to shops, shows, dinner, etc.

We just stayed in cabins 2622 and 2624 and they were terrific. No problems with noise and location was great! Very close to the aft elevators, easy access to Deck 3 Dining Venues, very easy to get off the ship in ports. I know cabin 2626 is on Dave's noisy list, but our 2 cabins were not on the noisy list and rightfully so! I'd book them again in a heartbeat!

We sailed in March and were in 2570, cat. 9. It was our first cruise and it was great. It was in the middle of the ship, no movement that was noticable and and we heard no noise, either from above or in the hall. It was just 3 or 4 rooms from the elevators and stairs, and was very convienent to deck 3, where some of the restaurants were, and to deck 1, where port days disembarkation took place. If we go again we would ask for this stateroom. Hope this helps, have a wonderful, magical trip.

Has anyone ever stayed in this room? How is it? Noisy ,quiet? Lots of traffic? Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks for all the room suggestions. Most of the rooms that had been suggested were already booked.

We have been booked in room #2526 for the 7 day Western Caribbean cruise on 27-Mar-04. It's a little further forward but hopefully we'll enjoy it. It's not on the "Noisy Rooms" list.

Thanks again. The kids are looking forward to the trip. We're also booked for a week at BCV in October so they're in Disney heaven at this point. Fortunately the cruise should also offer a bit more relaxation for Mom & Dad than the park does...

My question is about the portholes in Cat.9. Are they really big? I am trying to picture them. Also if you are on deck 2 lookin gout, does it look really close to the water? I don't want to be so close that you see the rocking too much.
We are in 2572, which is under Lumiere's, and 6 cabins from the elevator. I was concerned about being under Lumiere's, but I am hoping that since this is an outside cabin, and the tables above are against the wall, maybe there won't be too much traffic above us. Actually, during the day we will be gone, and at night when we want to go to sleep, they will be closed because we are night-owls.

Thanks MJ
I remember seeing these pics but I didn't remember which post.
So they are about 4 feet round? That is big. Plenty of light inside the cabin I would assume. Thats what I'm looking for. Was the rocking worse down lower? I thought it was worse higher.
Thanks again.

No....actually I think it felt more stable on the lower passenger decks.....the motion of the ship thankfully has never bothered me at all.

We were in 2564 and had no problems with noise. It's close to the elevator and stairs which is another bonus. We thought it would be a problem with troups of people going past our door, being that close but it worked out great.

Our house address was very similar and my wife would keep writing that down when we had to add our stateroom number. She had mentioned that when she got home she would end up writing our stateroom number down instead of the house address.

Have a great trip.

Bonnie Voyager,
I notice that you were in 2622, which is on the same side as my room. I see Castaway Cay out of your window. I wondered if we would be on the side of the ship where you could see the island. I sure hope we are. Thanks so much.

Sometimes the ship backs in at Castaway Cay and Sometimes they pull in forward. This will determine whether or not you see the Island. When I was in 2622, we backed in, so I had the wonderful view of Castaway Cay through my porthole. I also had the best view at Nassau (we could see Atlantis from our window) and at Freeport (lovely view of the colorful pier area versus the industrial area on the other side) on my trip. If you are sailing on Wonder, the starboard side seems to be the lucky side.

So far, I've done two sailings on deck 2. Once on the port side and once on the starboard side, both times midship. I love the BIG porthole and size of the cabins. However, I would recommend cabins on the starboard side over the ones on the port side. On the port side, the cabins seem to be right under the long hallway where Lumiere's is located, and heard a lot of foot traffic. I didn't seem to spend too much time in my cabin, so it wasn't an issue with me.

My daughter and I stayed in cabin 2008 last year on the Wonder.

I really enjoyed that porthole. 2008 is on the Port side up in the area where the walls (ok bulkheads) start to curve in towards the bow. On our first night out, the waves were a bit higher than on the following nights and I spent a lot of time watching them splash when they would hit us just right.

Traffic-wise, it was pretty quiet up there. One morning I did hear a bit of noise while we were docking. On the night we docked at Castaway Cay, I did wake up sometime in the middle of the night and noticed a "funky" odor. (Note that for me, the middle of the night could be anytime between midnight and 10AM). I expect that they were offloading fuel for the Castaway Cay generators or whatever.

This year, we are doing the Cat 6 verandah, 7 night trip, but I expect that we may go back to the Cat 9 room next time if it is just the two of us. On our last trip, my Daughter visited a girlfriend's cabin with a verandah and told me that it wouldn't be worth it. I had to try it anyway. I'm hoping that the verandah room will seem brighter and bigger so that we can convince my wife to come along on the next trip. She is kind of claustrophobic, and I'm trying to convince her to come along with us. Maybe next time we'll talk her into a 3 night test trip and will stay with the Cat 6 room. She and my son are going home after our WDW trip, and Kristin and I are extending our vacation with the cruise.
