I'm about to book our cruise for 5/27/06 (Special Western 7-night) and wanted your input on the best cabins in that category. Which ones are the quietest, least amount of rocking, etc. This is our first cruise, myself, DH, DS 10 (at time of sailing), and DS 6 (at time of sailing) and wanted to make sure I'm requesting a good cabin in our category.

Thanks for your help.

Maria,
While I have never been on the Magic, just the Wonder, they are almost identical as far as the cabins go. Our extended family had 6542, 6544, and 6546 in category 6, and were very happy with the location. In fact, we have these same cabins booked for our next trip on DCL. We liked that they were midway between the midship and forward elevators, so there were two very close by options for going up and down (the midship elevators are always the most crowded). We didn't find them noisy - as a matter of fact, they probably had less foot traffic because of the location than some other cat 6's would.

I'm sure that some folks will prefer locations further aft, but I found that when I was pretty far back in the ship I would feel the vibrations from the engines, etc. more. Perhaps you might feel a little less motion if you were dead midship, but in that case you will probably have more people walking past your room to get to and from theirs. All this is speculation on my part, of course.

Enjoy your cruise in whatever cabin you choose!

ljm.....thanks for the reply. Did you feel a lot of motion where you were? That's my biggest fear. I went on my first cruise (Carnival 3-night) this past June and the ocean was as smooth as silk. I guess I was lucky. The ship turned around into port in the middle of the night and I didn't feel a thing. I'm hoping it's the same with the Magic.

Thanks again.

We have only been on one 4 day and last years 7 day Eastern. We were in a Cat. 8 the first time, aft. We both heard the engine noises at night, and I do get motion sickness and could feel the ship moving. This last time, Cat 6 (6594), near the center, no noise and I got extremely sick at dinner (forgot my seasickness pills!) first night and went to lie down, and no problems with feeling the ship moving at all (October). We liked it so much, we booked this room for our 2006 cruise! On a side note, if you do get motion sick the pills offered by the cruiseline work great!

Good to hear! We booked cabin 6592 for our next cruise. I know midship is the best if the ship is rocking. I also wanted to be near the laundry room for easy access to the iron and laundry on a 7 day. Did you hear noise from the laundry room at all?
I know the midship elevators are crowded but we always just walk to one of teh others, they aren't very far.
BTW, we had 5122 this last cruise and while the location was great it was very noisey!!

We never heard any noise from the laundry room. You are just enough rooms away to make that and what little people traffic there was waiting to get in to the room a non issue. We never saw a large amount of traffic in and out, so, even though I was worried at first, it was perfect - at least in our opinion! :goodvibes Plus, at least on our cruise (Eastern), that side of the ship was always facing the ports we entered, so we had wonderful viewing when entering a new port. Hope we have as good on on Western cruise!

I just booked our cruise 7-night Special Western 5/27/06 and they assigned us 6558. Should I request a room closer to the middle?

Thanks.

Thanks so much for the info!! Ours is Western too. I guess I'll be reporting back before you. It's Jan. 14th 2006. I hope it's the *good* side. I like seing things going on when docking.

Did 2 DCL trips, one each on Wonder and Magic. Requested same room number on each ship. We stayed in 6576, midship, deck 6, category 6. We could go out on our veranda and see the stabilizers in the water. Never felt sick, gained our sea legs fast and had a great time. I can't wait to go again. I  DCL!

CPM - just completed our 4th Magic cruise on Jan. 15, 2005. Rebooked for the Western, next year Jan. 14! We rebooked the cabin next door on the "laundry room side" (my favorite) deck 6. We should get a thread started soon.

We've taken 2 Magic cruises. The cat 6 room on deck 6 was about mid ship & was not noisy at all. We were a few rooms down from the laundry & still it wasn't too bad. It was a GREAT GREAT room!!
Our first cruise we were on a lower deck aft near the elevator. Still very quiet.
You will LOVE the cruise!!!!

No, you'll be fine. You are right beside my usual cabin of 6556. It's considered mid-ship. Very close to the elevators and stairways~~overall great location!
