This is my first post to the board - I understand you all have the best DCL information!

If Disney does unveil West Coast iteneraries - I might try to do a cruise in summer 2005. Otherwise, I will have to wait for a 2006 East Carribean. But I digress.

I notice both cat 5 and cat 6 offer full verandahs with no obvious reason for price difference, yet there is about $100 per person difference. What are your thoughts, recommendations? From the plans it looks like both decks are well insulated from clubs, etc.

Welcome to the boards! You will get lots of great information here.

On our first cruise, we sailed a Cat 5. Since then, we have done two Cat 6s. IMHO, being one deck up is not worth the extra $. I was worried our view from a Deck 6 cabin would be blocked by the lifeboats. However, while they are below you, they are tucked in and you really have to lean over if you want to see them at all. With the exception of the deck, the rooms and views are identical.

If you have kids, another plus about deck 6 is that it is placed above the kids club. It was very convenient to just walk up one flight of stairs when we checked him out each night.

We have sailed in 6054 (adjoining with my folks) and 6092. Both rooms were mid-ship and in great locations. These were both port rooms. People have lots of different opinions about whether port or starboard is better on different cruises (Eastern, Western or Nassua), so that would be another good question to ask.

Good Luck.

Hey Dirk,

I haven't stayed in Category 5 but we did stay in Category 6 and we loved it. Like PiperG said it is very convenient to the Oceaneer's Club/Lab and also very convenient to get to the restaurants as well as upper decks - we usually just took the stairs.

BTW, which Carolina are you from? I am from North Carolina but have been transplanted to Monmouth County, NJ.

Have a wonderful trip!

We've stayed in both - aft & forward - & enjoyed all cabins. Really didn't notice any difference. It really depends on what's below/above you, I think, although we never heard any noises other than people in the halls.

Cat 6 our last 4 cruises. From what we can tell the only difference is its one deck lower..we like it because its in between everything. You can walk up or down to all the action and dont have to feel like you hiked a mile.

If you want cat 6 book as early as possible. We had to go to cat 5 for this summer as all of 6 was full. Be sure to check out the prices with several different sources. Dreams Unlimited (who sponsers this board) is great, also Small World Travel is good too. We got a much lower price through Small World than came up on the official site. Enjoy your planning.:D

Hi Karen,

I'm actually from both - born in South Carolina and worked for several years in Raleigh while living in Raleigh and Durham. I have familly in Little Silver, so I've been visiting Monmouth since 1974. Now, I live in Trenton. Small world!

Thanks everyone for the answers. I've no clue when we're going, but the sea is calling. But, I get to check-in at the AKL in 60 days for 8 nights!

I know that many people prefer being higher up in the ship, but personally I've never understood the appeal and I certainly don't think it's worth more $$ for the same stateroom!
My favorite deck is deck 5, and my favorite stateroom, 5650, is a Category 6. I would never trade it for a 5, as I like being as close to the water as possible. Deck 5 is the closest deck with verandahs, and because it isn't all staterooms, there tends to be less hallway traffic. We don't have kids, but if you do, proximity to the kids clubs might be another plus. To each his own...I'm sure the people who like being up high have their reasons. But personally I'd take a 6 over (or is that under) a 5 any day!
