Category 12 GTY upgrades

On our first Disney cruise (Magic 1999) we booked at 12 with gty.

We ended up with a 9? (One of the little double porthole rooms on deck 1.)

The only time I felt this location was convenient was getting off the boat at cc and Nassau since you depart at these decks in port.

It wasn't much of an upgrade IMHO.


Disney couldn't pay me to stay on that deck again.

Once the GTY disappears and is replaced by an actual room number...does that mean your chances of an upgrade are over?

that's how ours worked........ We didn't have a room # until our docs came that time.... I guess things could change after...

But after my recent dealings with DCL it sounds like there aren't any cabins to upgrade to on our sailing.

Not surprised, goofy - I think so many people have rescheduled/rebooked, etc that the later sailing are PACKED - I read Barb's trip report on our old cruise (9/9) and it sounds like it was a ghost ship practically on the Wonder!

Heck, we are just happy to be cruising

We booked a GTY 12 (not sure when - maybe in 3/04) for our upcoming Oct 31 crusie. We have four in our party, so this whole thing is very confusing. Anyway, as soon as I receive my docs, I will let ya'll know what I got. Send some wishes our way for an upgrade, although, I must admit, I am just so darn excited to be going!

We were upgraded (2 couples, 2 cabins) on the Magic last Sept from 12's to 9's. Also, took a group of women (7 women, 3 cabins) on the "5 day Wonder" Sept. 2, two of our cabins were upgraded ahead of time to cat 9. When I asked at port check in about the 3rd cabin, they were also upgraded to cat. 9. We loved paying for cat 12 for a 3 day cruise, and ending up with cat 9's for a 5 day cruise.

o.k. guys! I did not get my docs, but I did get my "pre reserved shore excursion confirmation". According to it, we got an upgrade to a cat 10 on deck 1. We won some and lost some. I was hoping to not get on deck 1, but hey, we got an upgrade and are going!

Does anyone know, is this room pretty definate then? I am assuming that it is.

I was upgraded fro cat 12 to Cat 9 on deck 2. We booked around june 1997 for an August 1998 Magic 3 day cruise.

Oh please let us get lucky! We booked in Feb for the Oct cruise and did Cat 12 gty. And we will be taking a car to the port so we will be there early.

I booked thru HOTWIRE.com which I found out later uses Cruises Only to do the actual booking. I booked in February for the October 16th Magic (7 day) and I had a GNTY for the Cat. 12 the whole time. Just got my docs the other day, and I got upgraded to 6141 which is a Cat. 11 on deck 6!!! NICE!!! I have talked to two others who had that room and they were happy with the location and whatnot (sure beats deck 2) IMHO book a Cat. 12 every chance you get...you can only go up from there!

We are a family of four. We also booked at the price of a Gty Cat 12. What I was told is that since we can't stay in that room, we automatically will be placed in Cat 11 and then any upgrades (which I think are few and far between with Disney & that's ok) would upgrade from Cat 11. We booked this room because we are 9 days at Disney before the cruise and it's only a 4 nighter and since we never were in our cabins on our two previous cruises, we were fine with that. If upgrade happens, that's just a cherry. The cruise is the real icing though!

The car or the TA? The TA was a local one here that a friend of mine's mom owns. The car we are still undecided I am thinking about southern elegance or maybe happy limo.

I had a gty cat 10 on the recent 9/18 Magic. I was given an inside stateroom #2647 but was able to upgrade at check in, even with the Capt. Mickey ship full no upgrades sign on the counter, to a cat 9 with a 4' porthole(great view) for $258

Originally reserved a cat 12 for four people in 2/04 for our 10/2 trip. Then had to change ressie in 6/04 to three people. Still had cat 12 gty.

Received docs and were upgraded to a cat 11 room on deck 5.
