I have taken my family on a couple of 7 day cruises in a Cat 5 room and in reality a family of four (two adults, DD 11, and DD 6 months) in a Cat 5 is plenty of room, but I thought it would be fun to look into one of the suites on the ship.

I called DCL and the representative couldn't speculate on the cost; the only way she could check the price was to choose a cruise date and suite to get the price.

The unfortunate aspect of this process was that there were no Cat 1, 2, or 3s available as far out as DCL could book so I couldn't get a price.

I was only looking for a "ballpark" price, but this call made me think...

Are the suites that popular? Hypothetically: If Jan '06 is the farthest DCL can book for the moment when will reservations for Feb become available?

If I ever wanted to book the Walt or Roy suites it would appear that no only would it cost a lot of money but it would require good timing and a little luck.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Jeff

supposedly you can fax a request to "inventory control" before itineraries are available for booking, and ask to be wait listed for the cat 1, 2 or 3 staterooms. Then when they start booking the time that you're interested, supposedly they'll get back in touch with you if you're successful in getting the category you want.

Okay,

We have been on 2 Disney cruises...

First one was a 3 day land/ 4 day Cruise, Cat 3 - a suite at the back of the ship.

We rebooked onboard and for a 7 Day Western - Cat 3 - and was recommended that we book the Cat 3 suite mid ship. I transfered my booking to DU - they did a wonderful job and the first they said was I was going to love this suite. It was "bigger and wider".

Well, it was more spacious then I ever could expect. We went from a double balcony to a triple balcony, a huge room - VERY WIDE!

If you are going to book a Cat 3 - DO NOT BOOK ANYTHING BUT A MID SHIP SUITE! I was so mad at our old travel agent for not giving us the option to book midship Cat 3. If you look at the DCL brouchure, you can see the difference...... it doesn't look like it's much but believe me! I felt like we were in the Walt Suite without the cost!

You can fax your own request or have a TA do it. A ballpark for 7 day in cat 1 for 4 is 12,000.

I spoke to DCL yesterday about this and they said that going from the Cat 6 that we were at now to Cat 4 would be $500 more. However, to go from Cat 6 to Cat 3 would be $2000+ more! :earseek:

Does this even sound right? Unfortunately for our cruise all of the Cat 1-3 rooms are already sold out but I was still curious as to the price.

I'm not sure if I got the correct info, but I called DCL 2 days ago about going from our category 4 to a 3 on the magic and was told it was unavailable, and when asked for a ballpark $$ figure. She said the next one that is available for a 7 nite sailing is going at over 8000.00. So my category 4 which is 4000 + change (for 2 adults) would double to a category #3.

Unfortunately, This seems really really steep compared to other cruise lines, but disney is very much over priced compared to other cruise lines.

Jeff,

If you are interested in booking a Cat 1, 2, or 3, I would not suggest waiting until the bookings are released. If you have a time period or date you want to cruise I would fax a request to DCL. On our crusie in March 2003 we put in a request for a Cat 1 anytime during the summer of 2005. When they released the dates we were booked in a Cat 1 for the June 25th cruise. Once the cruise dates are released DCL will fill the faxed request first then open the rooms to the public. On our cruise this past April we put in a request for a Cat 1 for summer of 2006 & 2007.

If you already have cruise booked you can waitlist for a Cat 1, 2, or 3. Sometimes these rooms will open up as you get closer to the cruise. We have done this twice and both times have moved from a Cat 4 to a Cat 3. I believe it was around $2000 more for the upgrade.

Just as a ballpark figure - for our cruise next summer the Cat 1 with a family of 4 is around $12000.

Hope this information helps.

I'm on the Aug 22 sailing and those were the prices our TA quoted me also to upgrade to a cat 4 or cat 3 from our cat 6.

We're sailing on the 4/23/05 Western - 2 adults and a 11 year old. I originally booked at cat. 3 for $8400; later changed to a cat. 5 for $5065 (this was all about 1 year before sail date). Our friends are staying in a cat.5, so we'll be adjacent. Plus, $3400 goes a long way to funding another Disney vacation. However, I still pine for the cat. 3. But, the 3 of us were fine in a cat. 7 in 2003, so I know we'll be fine in the cat. 5.

If you have the DCL DVD, they have a really good tour of the suites. . . I'm sure you'll find the right fit for your family.

Happy sailing!

I have found that if you price a Cat 6 (with port and taxes only), say by going to Allseas, looking up a date, go to the price for the number of people in you cabin, and then doubling that price, you will get a rough ballpark price for a Cat. 3.

What is max occupancy for cat 1, 2 & 3?

Is it possible for 2 families to splurge and share (family of 4 and 3)? I'm thinking cheaper for 2 side by side cabins (say 2 category 4's). Anybody experience this and went for the shared splurge? If so--how much more was it.

The cat 1 and 2 are allowed 7 guests. not sure of cat 3. We travelled with my DH and 2 DS and SIL and my parents. We did splurge for the suite instead of 2 rooms. It was a good bit more, but now we are hooked on the suites. For us it was well worth it!!

Lisa from DU was able to get us a Cat 1 for a 4 day next summer. We have been trying to get a Cat 1 forever through Disney with no luck. We call, we're on every waitlist, no luck. I started emailing with Lisa a while back and BINGO.

We had a Cat 3 & connecting Cat 4 booked for next April and are saving $3k+ by upgrading to the one Cat 1 suite. We have 4 adults and 3 kids traveling and always share a 2 bedroom at WDW, so I'm sure we'll be fine as far as space goes. I am sooooooo excited!

Lisa you ROCK!

I also think you are in a better position if you already have a cruise booked. This is what we did. We cruised in May 2002 and knew we wanted to do the Western in 2004 but the dates weren't open yet. We wanted to get the Cat. 2 again. CM on board told us to book the latest cruise she could do at that time. Then she said once we got home to then fax the request Inventory Control giving our booking number(s), when we were currently booked to cruise and to give several options of when we wanted to cruise. When we got home I did just that and when the remaining dates for 2004 were opened I was notified that we got the Cat. 2. HTH
