I "caught" movies yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I found the story fascinating but in this age of computer technology, one wonders if he could have gotton away with all that he did for as long as he did. Any opinions?

We saw it Saturday with our 2 teenagers. DH and I discussed that things like when all 3 investigators picked up the phone at once wouldn't happen today because of the technology. I am not sure the kids even picked up on things like that.

One of my favorite scenes was when he was "teaching" the French class. It really is an amazing story. One of the surprises was how inhumane French jails are. They have always criticized our justice system.

We saw the movie this weekend with some friends. It was in our discussions the rest of the weekend...with our thoughts going from how interesting that he got away with it as long as he did, to computers and technology today, probably would have helped catch him quicker...to how much we LOVED the costumes/decor.

Seemed to be pretty accurate with all the polyester and kitchy-funky home decorating stuff.

There wasn't anything NOT to like about the movie. :D

Great movie! A really nice mix of humor and sadness.

It would not be possible to impersonate an airline pilot like that anymore. Its much easier verify an ID than it was back then. The check fraud would be trickier, since computers have removed most of the float from the equation, but it is still possible on a smaller scale and there are still scam artists that make their living this way. Unfortunately, some of the terrorists networks have begun similar forged check schemes as a way to help fund their operations.

I saw the real guy's interview. And he said with today's technology, it would be much much easier to fraud. He said he had paid 10,000 dollars back then for that printer to forge the checks. These days, he said you can do it on a laser printer.

Hard to imagine.

Great movie! I just saw it today. It's amazing to see how much mystique surrounded airline pilots back then. Once he had the uniform, the sky was the limit (no pun intended....well, maybe a small one).

I don't think it would be easy to get away with now because ID can be verified in an instant by computer.
