Catalina Island - CONTEST NOW OVER! Winner's Name Drawn TODAY, Tues., 5/26/09!!

I posted this in the the other Catalina/Day Trip thread, but I wanted to be sure everyone knew there is a contest to win a great trip to Catalina on May 29th - May 31st.

The contest ends May 25, and the entry form seems to still be open for submissions until midnight, I guess. Anyway, the prize package is great. Anyone who has ever been to Catalina knows that the cost of things can add up fast, just like when we are at DLR! So this is almost an all-expenses-paid trip. They are giving away a package for four people, which includes round-trip tickets on the Catalina Express, a $100 certificate for the Lobster Trap restaurant, tickets to the Flying Fish Tour (which I recommend - it is a lot of fun) and the Casino tour, Parasailing, and TWO nights at a yet to be determined cottage or condo that accommodates 4 people! This is a BIG prize! The downfall is that they will not draw the winner's name until May 26, and the trip begins on May 29th - 3 days later!!! I think that was a really dumb thing for them to do because people need notice - even Socal residents - but maybe that helps them keep the number of entries down, because they know people who can't go on such short notice will not enter. In any case, yes, you will probably want to eat at one or two other places in addition to the Lobster Trap, and yes, you may want to rent a golf cart (that is a must!) and buy souvenirs, but this prize is almost covering everything.

It is really a great prize, so I hope at least a few of you will be able to enter with the knowledge that you will have less than 3 days to pack and plan if you are notified that you are the winner!

I guess I tend to only notify folks of the contests that I think are extra interesting and extra cool or that I KNOW people would be in to (trips and things or big cash prizes) - ones that may be local to me or exclusively sent via e-mail and so not everyone will hear about them otherwise. I have skipped over many contests in the past and didn't even give them a second thought. Now I will pay more attention to the ones people like - like winning trips to various amusement parks, etc. I won't bother with the 'win a trip to the set of Desperate Housewives' contests or whatever!

You're welcome! I hope everyone can enter the contest, despite the short time period between when the contest ends and the winner is notifed to when the trip takes place. I am not a spontaneous trip person - I like to plan and plan and have time to think about what I am packing for at LEAST a few weeks beforehand. Anyone who has been to Catalina before kind of knows what they can bring or do without, so I guess I do have that on my side, but anyone who has never been there before will be at a bit of a disadvantage in not really knowing what to bring or how to pack and only having (less than) 3 days to do it. In any case, if, by some miracle, I win the contest, I will rally and throw some things together and get my butt in gear - all in under 3 days. The prize is too good to not take it. They threw a lot in the winning package so it is worth an attempt to win!

Just a reminder to everyone who has entered this Catalina contest (explained in Post #1) or who has not entered YET, the winner's name is drawn next Tuesday, May 26th, and I assume the Catalina folks (probably the Chamber of Commerce or the Visitors Bureau) notify you right after that, on that day. I assume they will email you with the notification, BUT since the trip has to take place just three days from then, on the 29th - 31st, they may call you because it is such short notice. In any case, check your email and your voice messages on Tuesday, just in case!!

And anyone who has not entered yet, you still have a chance to do so. I think they close the contest on Monday.

This is the last chance to enter - I thought they were closing the contest at midnight today, 5/25/09, but it seems to still be open for submissions/entries. So they must be keeping it open until midnight tonight (technically tomorrow, 5/26), and then drawing the winner's name tomorrow during the day. I assume they will notify the winner right away, considering the trip is at the end of this week.

Anyway, anyone who has not yet had the chance to enter, you still have today to do it and then everyone check your e-mails tomorrow and Wednesday to see if you won!! And be prepared to pack and go at the last minute!

Okay, the contest is now over, and the winner's name will be drawn today, 5/26/09. I assume, because the trip begins on Friday and that is only 3 days away, that someone from the Catalina Chamber of Commerce will e-mail or call the winner sometime today, possibly tomorrow morning. So check your e-mails and voice messages and let us know if you won!
