Cat People/How do you clean the litterbox?

We let our reluctant indoor kitty become a happy indoor/outdoor kitty and no more litterbox problems! We don't even use a litterbox any more!!! Now we just have kitty landmines in the back yard with the doggie landmines!

When we did use the litter box, we used liners and regular litter (my cay never liked the clumping stuff). On trash day, out with the old and in with the new with poop scoops on the inbetween days.

I would never DREAM of asking DH to clean the litter box...................that's what the kids are for!! ;) Seriously, each one has their own week, the 3 of them take turns. We change every Sunday (today started my son's week). They have to feed the cat, fill her water dish and do the litter box daily. :D

As far as litter goes, I love the Berkly and Jensen brand (BJ's)!!! Not only does it work as well as the more expensive brands, it is only $6.99 for a 40 LB box!!:hyper:

For those of you who hate to do the litter box, try do a 'bunny box' on a daily basis!! :earseek: Thumper makes twice the mess as Sabrina!!!!!:crazy2:

I just bought a new kitty litter a couple of weeks ago. It's called Swheat Scoop. It's made of wheat, not clay, and it's a clumping litter without perfumes. Tucha has some respiratory problems, so we thought this might help. It hasn't, but the box now has NO smell whatsoever. Plus, since the litter is made of wheat, it is actually flushable. Handy for me since the box is in the bathroom. It soaks for 20 minutes, then I flush. It's great stuff.:teeth:

If I need to dump the whole thing out, I just bring in the big kitchen trash can, dump the contents and wipe out the inside of the box with paper towels and kitchen anti-bacterial spray. I don't use liners.

3 kitties one box (2 HUGE cats one teeny tiny one)

No liners just use Arm and Hammer Crystal blend. I must say I do not scoop very often (twice a week) and there is very little smell. If I use anything else the house stinks. (Well it mihgt not if I scooped more often!) I scoop the clumped up stuff into zip loc bags and take it out from there. In 100 years someone will dig up a landfill and find my kitties poopies in exactly the same condition as when they went into the bag

Liners and crystal litter. It gets scooped almost every day by DD. She gets $.25 for each time she cleans it out. We change the litter about once a month unless it seems to need it sooner. Paper towels or newspaper under the liner are helpful in case kitty pokes a hole in the liner.

For those of you that don't use liners, what is your reasoning? it seems like you have to use a plastic bag anyway to dump it into. You don't even have to buy the special ones, you can just use the regular large garbage bags from costco.

I don't use liners, because I use clumping litter, and hardly ever need to change the whole box. Also, my one cat doesn't like the feel of them when he is scratching around... and then he won't use the box at all.
