DS is in the middle of moving to a new apt. He has been using my DH's truck as he has a Toyota.
Today he was taking his 2yo cat to the Kitty Salon for a bathe and nails clipped ... this cat will not go in the kitty carrier at all. DS had her on his lap as he was driving to the salon. The cat (being probably nervous) peed all in DS' lap. :headache: DS dropped the cat off and flew home to quickly jump in the shower and change to get to work.

He just called and asked me what he should do to clean the truck ... UGH, I have no clue. And how should be clean his clothes to get the smell out.

I need DISer's help; what should DS do.

TIA.

Nature's miracle.

The area will be wet for a while, but the enzymes will take care of the urine (if the seats were fabric).

If they are not fabric seats and the pee was just on the surface--then just sanitize the area to clean it.

It may not get it all clean on the first try--but you have to wait until it completely dries to know. If there is still urine odor after that, reapply.

Do not use other chemical cleaners on fabric though or it can render nature's miracle ineffective.

Thanks, Lisa, where would he buy that ... PetSmart/Petco?? Or any supermarket/Target/Wal-mart? And can he use the Nature's Miracle for his clothes?

I've bought it at PetSmart. :thumbsup2 It'll smell like that "public bathroom deodorizer" smell, but it's wayyyy better than catpee.

And for future reference, we put a couple of kitty treats in the back of our carriers when our two cats are being uncooperative. That gets them in there :thumbsup2.

Pet stores. I've not come across it at the other places--not that they wouldn't have them where you are at.

I have a cat who HATES going into the carrier. For going to the vets office it is a must. I refuse to have a cat flying around the inside of my car, lol! So a long time ago I found it was easiest to set the carrier on its end with the door open on top. I then gently grab my cat by the scruff of her neck with one hand and her back two legs with the other. I then simply lower her in through the door on top with her feet first. I let go of her neck and shut the door. With her safely inside I slowly set the carrier into the right position with handle on top. She is my cat with the tude but I would rather her be in the carrier and safe.

Sorry about the pee thing. I haven't ever had problems with that but know cat boxes smell awful enough so I can only imagine your poor sons car!!

:thumbsup2

Can he use it in the washing machine ... or do you have other suggestions for the machine?

No--it is meant to be used by itself without water. It contains enzymes and would get diluted in the washing machine.

Clothing should come clean in a washing machine through ordinary washing. But if he is concerned, he might pour some NM on the spots where there was cat urine. Let it dry completely and then when the smell is gone, wash like normal.

That is how our vet advised us to put the kitties in the carrier. Usually I don't have to handle the scruff of the neck--but if they are feisty, I'll dot hat part as a last resort. Gravity works wonders to get the cat in the cage.

I had a cat that peed on a (clean!) clothespile once. I think I pre-treated the pee spots with the cleaner, then washed normally. I think the washer might dilute it a little too much. I don't think it's particularly harmful stuff, either. I'd do a test spot just to make sure it won't react with the color first, though. :thumbsup2

I have wrapped my cat in a towel (with just her head exposed) to put her in the carrier. Once I get her in I pull the towel out. She can't fight me that way.

First I would use paper towels or an old towel to absorb the urine. Then I would use a carpet washers with shampoo formulated for cat pee.. then I would spray it with frebreeze ( the pet kind) . I would also air out the car for as long as he can.. If he has to drive it, tell him to sit on a towel, so he doesnt sit in it...

if it still smells after its cleaned and dried he can also free dried coffee grinds on the spot and let that absorb the smell.. have him vacuum the grinds and replace daily....

my cousin bought a car that trunk smelled like litter box ( from an auction!) we used a heavy duty carpet washer with the cat pee shampoo and the smell still came back... a week of using the coffee grinds the smell was gone!

for the laundry, use white vinegar and wash in warm/hot water. I used this for my kids when they had overnight accidents, and I've used it for cat & dog urine. It works great and leaves no smell behind. I just measure out 1 cup of white vinegar and add it to the water before adding the clothes, wash with your usual detergent & softener and it will work. As for the truck seat, I'm not sure.....I'd probably use peroxide, just pour the peroxide on the spot and blot it with a white cloth until nothing else comes up. I've used that on dog spots in our carpets, works great.

Another idea for getting cat into carrier for next time..

I bought a carrier that breaks down into pieces. The top comes completely off, the front door snaps into the base and into the top. Keep the door snapped in base. Someone plops her into the base with a treat, the other person quickly sets the top half on top and we wiggle the door portion into place on the top holes.

Same in reverse at the vet. She just stays in the base and whines while being examined or when she goes for nail clipping at the groomer.

You are supposed to spray the Nature's Miracle on, let it soak in and allow it to dry naturally. Don't dilute it by putting it in the washer. It has to break down the cat pee with the enzymes.

Thanks everyone for all the replies.:thumbsup2

DS bought the vinegar for the wash and he went to PETCO and bought himself the Nature's Miracle as well.

He called me later in the day and said he figured that Kitty peed on him when he got her outside as he was walking to the truck. He was holding her and she like buried her head into his shoulders and then welllll .... so he tells me the truck is FINE ... ugh, I hope so.

He also went home after work before picking Kitty up from the Spa and got her cat carrier and he will use that from now on when transporting her.

Get a top loading cat carrier like this one, (where the grey cover comes completely off) and you can place her inside. They have them cheap at Walmart.

My vet highly recommends it. :thumbsup2 My cat LOATHES being put into a carrier. There was no way of pushing her into a front loading one. There were sounds that came out of her that no earthly creature could possibly make. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: She turned into Cujo, the cat. :scared1:

Now, I can grab her from behind, put her in, then place the cover over her. MUCH simpler!

I'm also kind of "crate training" her with it. I leave it out for her, with the cover off. She actually likes to lay in it. So when it comes time to really put her in, she's not afraid of it. It reminds her of something from home that's safe & familiar.
